What sort of stuff do you have in mind? Short of some poorly built custom tracks, Fusion on PS4 has been a solid runner, for me at least.

Ive had the game since day 1. I remember even a few tracks in, it did what I mentioned above.

I haven't played in a while (Fusion DLC) but I'm playing now and (SO FAR) I have not seen the performance issues. I will keep looking. Bully for them if they silently fixed it though! :)

[ed] Ehhh, I am still seeing it a bit.

Title Update 11 landing today :supaburn:

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1324308-Title-Update-11-Release-Notes

I'll copy the main feature beats over, but there are a ton of fixes listed too, so do check out the Red Lynx post...

"New Features:
• 7 New X-Supercross tracks!
• New Premium items!
• DLC Helmets now available for female rider
• Multiplayer Seasons
• Countries leaderboards
• Hall of Fame leaderboards
• Awesome Level Max scores removed from global leaderboards
• 2 New Helmets that can be bought for in-game currency
• HUD in Auto-Camera can be disabled in replay mode"

"We will first update the client, then update the server, then update tracks list for online multiplayer, then we will update the Track Central layout to include ninja community picks.
It should happen today.

Later this week, we will do a maintenance to recalculate global leaderboard scores to remove the unicorn tracks scores."

Aye, will be interesting to check it out. I nabbed an XBONE the other day just to play the new Tomb Raider, but I guess I'll have to set that aside for a day or two at least. Maybe this'll be something that keeps me with the multiplayer more consistently.

I guess I overlooked an announcement, but they also added a funbux-award all-custom-track tournament as well. Hopefully that stays a fixture, *assuming* they keep mixing it up with the tracks. I always liked the concept behind Fusion's tournaments, but the never-changing rotation of the same tracks over and over and ovet and OVER AND OVER just got old after a while.

And lo, the "Pre-season" ended, and Season 1 began...

Who knows how long the bump in activity will last? But its certainly nice to see 8-player-race after 8-player-race. But *man*, there are so many tracks in rotation now; super-cross, core-game tracks (including DLC), and custom tracks. It is very painful to have some good races with gains, than have a match stacked with stuff you haven't raced in months (or ever!), and see all those gains wiped out

Well, Red Lynx just keep on going with Fusion, and this is news definitely worth sharing:

"Cross Platform Track Sharing Is Here!"
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1350345-Cross-Platform-Track-Sharing-Is-Here!

Red Lynx posted:

That’s right riders. We’re going cross platform with Track Central, immediately for all new tracks and in the long run, retroactively for every custom track created since launch. Track builders will be able to share all their newest creations automatically across all available platforms. If the builder has a second account, connected by Uplay across multiple platforms, the track will show as created by them on any platforms they have Uplay access. If the track builder does not have Uplay access on multiple platforms, the creator name will show as FusionShared.

Now, the retroactive track list is going to take a bit longer, but will start immediately. Retroactive tracks will begin uploading in small batches to keep from overloading the server. It will start with the oldest tracks first and continue until it reaches the first track shared cross-platform. Be patient, retroactively sharing every custom since launch is going to take some time.

Finally before we continue we'll just make a quick note that track performance might not be equal on all platforms. As the building community adjusts to their new audience you may notice more frame drops or other performance issues than usual on Track Central.

But wait, there is more!

Red Lynx posted:

In addition to cross platform Track Central, we’re happy to introduce you to the brand new Community Recommended feed. We’re going to be putting the power in the community’s hands to recommend a slice of hot awesome from the track central catalog into a neat little package.

The real spark with the community recommended feed is going to come from our ability to enlist the community in a multitude of ways. We’ll be bringing back the Community Spotlight and giving those players control of the feed for a week. We’ll be reaching out to some community leaders and active community members. We’ll be polling the masses on the forums for nominations.

As someone who went *deep* with playing user created content in Fusion, this is fantastic news.

I'm kinda blown away by them doing cross-platform sharing, especially after all this time. It's a pity that leaderboards and track ratings aren't shared between versions too, but I guess there's only so much they can do.

The PC version may not have the hugest playerbase now, but it's not missing out on any content, and that's great news.

TrackMania is a little different in that it's bread and butter has always been on the PC whereas Trials has really been popular on the console. On every previous release on PC there's been a shitload of custom tracks/servers so I can't imagine it's going to be any different for Turbo.

Rumour has it that it's going to do exactly that: get rid of the custom servers in exchange for a Trials-esque system. Even if that proses to be false, there's going to be console versions and therefore there's still a need for an internal track sharing solution. I hope that Trials Fusion's track sharing going cross-platform will be a beta test for a similar cross-platform system for TrackMania Turbo.

Trials HD now has backwards compatibility support on XBONE.

Not much more to add than that, really.

Actually, there is something else worth mention - it includes the DLC as well. For me this is big, because while the PC Trials Evo Gold includes the the THD *base game* tracks, the DLC tracks never made it. So finally I get to play the THD DLC tracks again. Happy days!

Edit: And from the handful of tracks I've raced thus far, it performs flawlessly.

Edit: First new THD plat-medal in 4 years

Well, that is every track raced in the game from the first tutorial through to King of the Hill, including the DLC tracks in each tier. Stopping there for now because I'm loving knackered. Didn't take too long to get used to the old physics once more, nor using the XBONE controller. It rained new PBs, and there was a decent haul of medals too. Game runs absolutely flawlessly under BC. Unfair Bombardment can still go gently caress itself.

I played about an hour of Trials of the Blood Dragon earlier and I can't recommend it. Less than half the game is on the bike and the bike tracks that are there are wacky gravity switching upside down camera stuff rather than technical riding. The numerous run-and-gun platforming sections are terrible. I don't know how the same people that made the Trials games put out something that feels this bad to control. I heard something about some extreme bike tracks hidden later in the game, but I can't make myself keep slogging through this to get to them.

On the positive side, it sounds like a more traditional Trials game is in the works based on the developers' posts on their forums.

The bike segments are pretty cool and having the gun when it gives it to you lets you pull off some cool stuff, but OH MY GOD these walking and jetpack levels are awful

Having to control the jetpack but also having a bomb that explodes if it knocks into things is probably the dumbest level in any video game ever

L_Harrison
May 22, 2007
Yeah this game is something else. I'm all for over-the-top retro circlejerking and cybercommandos, but there's not much except for the main storyline stuff (As far as I know, there's no multiplayer besides leaderboards and no track making either). And the off-bike stuff, holy lord the controls lol. But it is knuckle-twisting hard to get the A+ rating on missions (platinum, basically), and some of the soundtrack is pretty good.

It's basically what FC3 Blood Dragon is to FC3, but not as good.

Speaking of weird poo poo, how was Awesome Level Max? I just saw a quick look at it the other day and the cat/unicorn stuff looked...gimmicky, but were the RedLynx/user tracks worth the price?

Narcissus1916
Apr 29, 2013

Depends on what you mean by "worth the price". I think I got awesome max on sale at some point, I could be wrong.

But the user created levels were MUCH stronger than the developer's levels, and both were far stronger than the unicorn stuff.

I bought Blood Dragon because I'm a fan of both franchises. Also, I'm drunk.

Awesome Level Max is worth your time and money. The unicorn stuff is just a gimmicky thing that is the smaller aspect of that DLC. The meat of it are the two sets of trials levels, and all of the tracks therein are great.

As for this blood-dragon mix-up... I'm liking it. I can enjoy the faux-90s aesthetic, and the silly stuff sprinkled in, and the trials bits are still trials-like and there is leaderboard competition. Makes a nice change of pace from grinding familar tracks for PBs and greedily consuming everything new that comes into Track Central.

There are five glowing blue portals across all the tracks that give you secret TurboFlip courses to acquire keys. If you acquire all five keys, you unlock Extreme courses I believe. I've only come across two of them so far (one on the first level in Miami, and one on the Holy Grail course that constantly flips gravity). You can find brief riddle-type tips on the safe under the bed in the hub.

Hey, man, I distinctly remember this being an episode of Spongebob. :colbert:

Everything on the edges of Trials of the Blood Dragon, from the boot screens to the menus to the cutscenes, is absolutely 100% amazing. The actual gameplay, though... well, I have some bad news.

Some of it is just more trials levels, and those bits are good (though not GREAT so far, because track design isn't completely on point and there's a bigger emphasis on aesthetics and setpieces, much like the later bits and DLC of Fusion). Then there's some alternate-vehicle stuff, like the RC car levels, and those are neat diversions. But an unwelcomely large portion of the game is the on-foot and jetpack levels, which are straight-up bad.

Toaster Beef
Jan 23, 2007

I agree that the on-foot stuff is just not very good, but I can't help thinking there's something there. When you're really cooking along and hitting the jumps perfectly and nailing kills with the right thumbstick, it all feels very fluid and incredible. Those moments are few and far between, though.

Grappling hook and shooting are fun and I'd rather have those as the big gimmick instead of being on foot.

On a related note, one of the devs confirmed another Trials game. They plan to talk to the inner community after this summer and do it right.
