At the outer limits of the Domitia system a small black ship, noticeable only by the brief flickering of the stars it obscures, hurtles through space. Deep within, in a room that's equal parts, armoury, library, and office a meeting of some importance is under way.

At the back of the room the hulking form of Lord Inquisitor Wilhelm stands across from Inquisitor Commandant Folkar Azereon. Behind Folkar, at parade rest, stands his Cadre: Father Butts, Joyce Sacree and the nightmarish visage of Nuke Dukems.



For the entirety of his Inquisitorial career Folkar, and what remains of his Cadre, have served at his leisure, taking no missions but what he assigns until the day that the Conclave sees fit to bestow upon Folkar his own ship and autonomy.
This is that day.

Wilhelm smiles as he addresses Folkar: "Inquisitor Azereon, when you were first sent to me I had thought Croix might have finally gone mad, uplifting a Guardsman to our ranks. But during your brief time here, I have come to see how right he was in making his choice. You are everything he promised and more. It is my honor to tell you that your indenture to me has ended."

His voice takes on a progressively more serious tone as he continues:
"When we arrive at our destination there will be a ship and crew of your own waiting. Until now it has been under the command of a certain Inquisitor Magdella. She was tasked with the investigation of the Domitia rebellions, but in well over a year has made no progress. Whats worse, the entirety of her Cadre, the inquisitorial acolyte cells, and a significant portion of her crew have gotten killed under her command. Since her coming to Domitia III, two Cardinals and no less than three planetary governors have been assassinated. And all of this time she has been calling in an inordinate amount of resources, including one of the Conclave's most sacred relics. When you arrive you will take command of her botched investigation. When whatever foul conspiracy taking place there is at an end, you will bring her and the relic to me at the Conclave's fortress-ship to answer for her incompetence. This is merely the latest in a recent string of her disastrous failures."

Wilhelm's face is red, and he is practically spitting with rage towards the end, but he regains his composure and jovial attitude before going on.

"As a parting gift, and in recognition of your newfound authority, I have prepared something for you."

At his signal a pair of servitors enter the room, bearing a massive case. Within the case is a massive suit of armor:

"Custom-fit for your frame with subtle hexagramic warding. I considered having it edged with gold filigree, but I know you don't go in for that ostentatious stuff. Now! We have a half hour before reaching our destination, so do you, or any of your Cadre, have any questions on your mission before leaving?"

Magdella has always been far too vain for my tastes. She gets juvenat treatments about every other year, and as I recall spends a shameful amount of time and resources on her wardrobe. Wasteful. But up until the past few years she had a rather distinguished Inquisitorial career. If not for her recent failures, she would be one of the candidates for Lord Inquisitor, when something finally manages to kill me. Ah, here it is."

Inquisitor Commandant Folkar Azereon

The newly minted Inquisitor stays quiet and composed as he is given his honors, his hands tucked behind his back while standing at attention. As the armor is rolled out for him he steps aside to inspect it, letting the others speak their peace. Folkar could already feel in his gut that something wasn't right with what the other inquisitor was telling him; he'd done enough leg work both for the Guard and the Ordos to tell when something has gone awry. He places a hand on the ceramite breastplate; it had been ages since he'd worn powered armor; his carapace felt like a second skin, but he was looking forward to being more fit for the thick of things again. After a moment of thought, Azereon half-turns to Inquisitor Williams.

"You honor me with the commission, sir, and I greatly appreciate the gift. But, something troubles me." Folkar turns on his heel, his brow furrowed. "I don't recall hearing much of Magdella's incompetence until recent. Could it be possible she has been compromised, sir?" He looks over to Seymour and Joyce, before back to Williams. "Should she be, would we need to change course? Or still bring her in alive?"

She listens calmly to the Wakaja Wilhelm,as while her Wakaja was Folkar, this Wilhem was his, and deserved respect. Commandant Azereon grins. "Is that to say she has always been incompetent, sir?" The grin fades quickly and he sighs, running a hand through his mess of hair. "Sorry. Old soldier humor. But you're right. I may be reading into this too much too soon. Emperor knows the truth, sir, but we will bring her back and find for certain." Folkar scratches at his beard.

In spite of Williams' words, he still feels troubled about the whole ordeal. Inquisitors were rarely this incompetent for long, and to allow such damage in so little time.. there had to be ulterior motive. She was allowing these deaths, or causing them herself, Folkar was certain of it. He looks to his cadre, and decides he'll suss it out with them once clear of Williams. It was obvious to Folkar the man likely believed the woman was just finally suffering from her old age. And it may well be true, but the soldier knew, deep in his heart and in his gut, that the easy answers were hardly ever the right ones.

"Incompetence is not treason. Well, that's not entirely true... But Inquisitors don't live as long as she has by being incompetent. And I have little expectation that she will try to impede or resist you. It is, in fact, entirely probable this situation is what she claims it to be: A particularly devious enemy, or a run of supremely bad luck. With a century and a half of sterling service it's actually quite likely to happen eventually. Perhaps the whole past few years of her failures is an ingenious ploy to cause division within our ranks. It's happened before. But we have to be sure. And that's why we're sending you, Folkar. To be sure. It's our job to be suspicious of everyone, even ourselves."

Butts

Butts listens to the conversation, waiting for it to move away from the philosophy of failure. Eventually the Lord Inquisitor comes to a point that sounds like a suitable time to speak up. "Sir, any information you can give us on the nature of her operation or the threat she was after?" He doesn't show it, but Butts is slightly alarmed by the fact that whatever they were going after had apparently managed to stop a skilled, senior inquisitor. Either they were dealing with something very serious, or a heretic inquisitor. Both possibilities, no matter how unlikely the second might be, filled Butts with dread and anticipation.

It's been several weeks since her last report however, maybe shes finally found something." Wilhelm shrugs his massive shoulders.

"I think thats about all the actual information we know. You can see why we're more than a little worried. Anything else you four need?"

The inquisitor snaps out of his reverie and clears his throat. "No, sir, unless the others happen to have further inquiries, I believe we are done here." Folkar glances to the others; the good father seemed to share some of his concerns, which doesn't come as much of a surprise. Still, he'd have to talk to them all on the shuttle; there were things he rather not let Williams know he's contemplating, since the man seems to firmly believe their target may be infallible.

Wilhelm nods. "Good. A few more things. In addition to your usual team, and the three specialists you've already requested, I'm sending a psyker and a crusader with some... special talents, with you. I know your views on psykers, but do try not to shoot them both on sight. Crusader Lanny has sacrificed much in the service of our Ordos. Hopefully they won't be of any use. I've also received word that a rogue trader the Conclave has 'invited' to help you blend in, at my bequest, has only arrived yesterday. She's unaffiliated with Magdella, and has been told that serves you, and only you. Now get going Folkar, your shuttle is waiting. You're going strait to a briefing with Magdella, and the local planetary leadership. I wish you luck."

And with that Wilhelm turns and walks out the door. Inquisitor Folkar dons his new armor, and follows suit, his three allies following behind. The others are already strapped in and waiting. You join them, buckling yourselves in. Maybe you say poo poo to each other, maybe not. I don't care because I'm railroading this poo poo and I don't have time for all yall to say "Sup mister Fuckar Asseatin". As the shuttle launches out from the black ship Domitia III fills the windows, growing larger and larger, until you can begin to make out the various hives of the planetwide city.



The shuttle swoops down through the atmosphere towards the endless city below. On this part of Domitia, even the lands between hives are carpeted in towers and endless smaller arcologies. The hive nearest you is recognizable from your briefing as Unuturo, the seat of Imperial power on the planet. Or at least it had been.


The entirety of the upper spires were a burnt out husk, with the flames still smoldering lower down. While only a comparatively small portion of the hive was afflicted, that portion had contained the majority of the planetary government. It seems things are looking a bit more dire for the planetary government than Wilhelm had realized. Instead of heading to the hellish inferno of Unuturo, the shuttle makes for a small arcology about a hundred kilometers away, an ecclesiarchal district from the looks of it.



You set down to land in front of what appears to have been, until recently, the main temple of the district. Any last words before you land?

Folkar whistles lowly as they pass by the smoldering ruins of the hive spire. "What in the God-Emperor's holy name could've caused that?" He looks to Logan and Nuke, shaking his head. "I think Williams gets an award for understatement of the year. That is BAD."

The inquisitor digs out his data slate and flicks through a few pages quickly, his brow furrowing as he looks from the slate to his new sage. "Gallia, is it? You're our intelligence agent on this. What do you know about what's going on down there, or about our Inquisitor?" He looks back to the slate, navigating away from Gallia's dossier. "Williams didn't give us a lot to go on, but my men and I seem to have the suspicion we might be dealing with a compromised throne agent."

Again, Folkar looks to Solomon, his brow furrowing as he does. "Dossier doesn't say much on you, Gray. What sort of specialization are your powers? Am I riding with a mental weapon of mass destruction or someone who can see the future and read minds? And I'm gonna say this, if it's the latter? You better say it with your mouth and not your brain because I will not condone any unwarranted inspection of mine or my cadre's minds." He motions to Logan and the others, including the newest members with the gesture. "I want that 100% clear. If we have need of it, we'll give you informed consent, but otherwise, I WILL stake you for casual intrusion." He pulls aside his jacket to show the witch hunter's stake in its sheathe.

As the shuttle glides through the atmosphere of Domitia, past the burning ruin that had been Unuturo, one of the passengers does not bother gawking at the sight of the toppled spires and alleys of flame. She instead stares a simple data-slate, pursing through reams of information related to Domitia, the missing Inquisitor Magdella, and the insurrection that had engulfed the planet. Her head only rises from the data-slate when Folkar speaks her name,

Solomon is seated in the transport as the main cadre enters, he doesn't seem to notice and in fact seems to be in an almost meditative trance. His eyes open but not moving, barely blinking as he mutters a litany in a quiet controlled chant. As you all strap in he continues until he's addressed. He blinks rapidly, a fluttering as if clearing his head and then glances over to look Folkar over. He listens without moving anything but his eyes as the inquisitor addresses him. His eyes flash down and narrow an almost imperceptible amount as he sees the stake but then something seems to flick on inside of him, his eyes soften and flutter back up to Folkar's face before he addresses him, "I am a Templar, my training is martial, using my curse to enhance such things. I see combat 2 or three moments into the future... I am a diviner. I use precognitive sight to strike or dodge attacks before the attacker knows he is making them..." He trails off before saying, "I am also capable of locating things or seeing emotions that people are trying to hide. Detecting lies. Deceit. Other subterfuge. My powers are not flashy maelstroms of lightning or a storm of flame..." He glances around the area first before saying, "I'm sorry, I don't know if you would consider that more useful. I don't know how you plan on using me. The Emperor willing, I will be of some use before I am finally executed for my nature."

"Right, I don't know that our mission will ENTAIL stabilizing the region so as of now we have no plans." He flicks through the dataslate, clicking his tongue. "We don't know the depths of the sedition here or what all has been done, or undone, on the planet in regards to the revolts and other gently caress ups. So, to answer your question, Jerry, I have no earthly idea." He glances out the window once more, where he can see the orange glow of the burning hive.

"Our first task is either contact with Magdella, and if we can't find her we move through her acolyte network. Magdella is priority one on this planet, and anything else is tertiary. If it looks like the rebellious element is our way of finding her, then we work it that way." He looks back to Jerry. "And if that comes about we'll be turning to you."

Nuke simply lifts his helmet and looks at Jerry with his cybernetic eyes and his burned to gently caress/half metal face. "gently caress hiding." is all the brute can think to say at a time like this. Putting back his helmet and rechecking his equipment, its quite clear that no PDF heavy would be carrying quite the arsenal, or a bolt pistol engraved with the markings of the Ordos Calixis to boot. There's no hiding DUKEMS, its just not possible unless you put him a crate and deliver to recipient.

Jerry shuts up and stays quiet unless prompted. Too much asking sometimes sounded like an interrogation and getting off on the wrong foot with your boss, especially an Inquisitor, was pretty inadvisable.

Checking his own gear stored in a locker underneath his seat, Jerry pulls out his own set of carapace and a nasty looking combi-weapon of a DSM rifle+semi-auto shotgun. It wasn't a bolter, but sometimes one shot was better than 100.

She stares at Gallia as the woman talks, "The inquisitor Wilhelm indicated we are to take command of the operation here, that can only be done with the strength of the Inquisition can it not? We should arrive, subdue Inquisitor Magdella and then take charge no?"

The Feral worlder looks to her Inquisitor for guidance. Her plan seems sound, but she has found in the years since leaving Dawn that those of the Imperium at large prefer their schemes like they prefer everything else, overly complicated with unneeded components.

Magos Korbathov

The power armor of the Magos whirs as he approaches the shuttle window and takes a good look at the considerable devastation in front of him. Such a waste of materials, made possible only by the corrupted foolishness of fleshlings. He pets his cyber mastiffs on their heads with one hand and holds his power axe on the other. Not making eye contact with anyone he says in a mechanical voice. "++If the cell requires someone tracked and found, leave it to me, Drako and Lizko++"

He then kneels down, opens his Constructer Interface and links it with his MIU while uploading RESTRAIN protocols in Lizko, his Bloodhound Mastiff and first cybernetic creature, gained so long when he worked in the Precincts in Scintilla. He then chooses to upload DEFENSE protocols on the big body of Drako, a Bullpup Mastiff and later acquisition. Who knows what could happen next?

Folkar pauses to consider, for a moment, that he would be taking a psyker's word on the general make up and integrity of another person's soul, and then considers that this other person is a throne agent who has served for time innumerable. ".. and.. if that be the case, we will need more investigation." Folkar shudders, looking mildly repulsed.

"Either way, we're going in on almost nothing beyond her job is not going so well. Williams likely wasn't fully informed of the.. situation.. going on down here."

They are probably patrolling the upper hive while Enforcers and PDF act as front line troops against whatever people are causing the damage." Lanny looks dispassionately through the window again, taking in the damage. "I expect a few losses will have occured in the initial clashes, however. I am more concerned with the possible loss of Arbite stations in the damage section of the hive. Non-arbites in Arbite riot gear could easily infiltrate to cause more damage, and few would question them."

Somewhat surprised at the resistance encountered to the idea of not immediately announcing that the Inquisition had arrived again, Gallia simply shrugs her shoulder and waits for the craft to land. Piping up at the mention of the Adeptus Arbites, she adds her own view.

"Yes, it is quite likely that the main Arbite headquarters was located in the damaged section of the hive, given the tendencies for the symbols of power to cluster around the powerful. If it was not destroyed in the initial attack the survivors have likely destroyed all they could not evacuate if the position was untenable."

She refrains from speculating on the obvious alternative to the fate of any survivors. Adeptus Arbite prisoners generally did not last for long during civil discord.

The inquisitor runs his hand down his face, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Listen, people, for all we know, we'll get off this shuttle and Magdella will be standing right there waiting for us. Or that rogue trader that Williams told us about... and.. didn't give us a name for. Or description." He slides his hand down his face all the way with a sigh, sitting up straight in his seat again. "We're making a lot of assumptions on how we're doing this, and we aren't even on the ground yet, and ARE WE THERE YET, PILOT, FOR THE LOVE OF THE EMPEROR WHAT IS TAKING THIS FLIGHT SO BLOODY LONG." He lifts and turns his head towards the cockpit, raising his voice at the end with frustration visible on his face. He sits there, sternly glaring at the door, before brushing his hair back from his face with his hand.

"So, right. We assess the situation on the ground and plan from there. It's futile to plan for resistance and then land in a fuckin' garden that'll make a paradise planet look like a feral world, or to plan for compliance and land smack dab in the middle of a fire fight. Just.. be on your guard and we'll take it by wing." He shoots another glance at the pilot's door, letting his annoyed gaze linger a moment.

Stay sane inside insanity!!!
After what seems an eternity, the shuttle sets down on a makeshift shuttlepad just outside the largest of the districts temples. Now that you're on the ground you can see that the entire arcology has been converted into a fortified garrison. As the shuttle doors open, it becomes readily apparent that you're expected...but not necessarily welcome.



The lead stormtrooper marches straight up the ramp to address Folkar.
"The meeting has already started, sir. You're to follow me. Now. And quickly." The lead soldier glances at Unuturo while the rest of his squad form a perimeter around the shuttles doors, weapons up.
A statement to follow, not a question. And no salute or anything, the nerve! How are you gonna handle these chucklefucks?
