Yeah, just look directly at the websites of any place with a pharmacy: Safeway, Lucky, Nob Hill, Vons, Raleys, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Costco, Wal-Mart, and so on. Check your county's site, check your medical insurance site (Kaiser, BCBS, etc.), jump online at midnight and refresh everything. The appointments are out there (especially if you are willing to travel).

Yeah if you’re free to get online all day, can travel at a moment’s notice, and are highly computer literate, then just check one of a dozen websites. Easy peasy!

12% of the electorate is way too small of a quota to trigger a recall.quote:A petition to recall a statewide officer must be signed by electors equal in number to 12 percent of the last vote for the office, with signatures from each of 5 counties equal in number to 1 percent of the last vote for the office in the county. I imagine if (or maybe just when) this recall election crashes and burns we might see a proposition to raise it. no hay camino fucked around with this message at 23:10 on Apr 23, 2021 |

With a percentage that small I'm surprised we haven't seen more recalls. E: it's unlikely the Republican candidate will win with 40% of the vote, but could a third party like the Greens maybe make Newsom sweat a bit? Get him to give up some concessions? no hay camino fucked around with this message at 23:18 on Apr 23, 2021 |

Based on the 2020 results for president Newsom would be better off giving concessions to Libertarians, and the Green and P&F parties would be best served by openly and loudly supporting Newsom in the hopes that someone may realize they exist. I live in a county that has had actual Green Party people on the city council of a real town and they got beat 2:1 by the Libertarians.

My sense is the best chance for removing Newsom (at the height of his mishandling of the pandemic disruption) has already passed. Vaccines are going into arms, infection and death rates are a sliver of what they were in Dec-Jan, businesses are reopening, and the economy is poised for a big rebound. The only thing left is the schools, which will probably announce full reopening schedules before the recall election is held. Even at the worst, the polling never showed a majority for removal, and the most recent poll showed Newsom winning the recall question 56-40. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_California_gubernatorial_recall_election#Newsom_recall

The Rock is a republican and I think an underrated choice to be the next Reagan who unleashes horrific austerity on Americans while being widely beloved both during and after his administration. Left resurgence leads to aggressive government spending and industrial policy, creating an epoch of prosperity and stability that produces a cohort of reactionary FYGM shitheads the same way New Deal social democracy did, they vote in an affable and charismatic empty suit to let the CATO institute gut the welfare state and pull up the ladder behind them, millennials and GenZ insist that the problem is anyone born after 2035 just doesn't want to really work and save for a nice place behind the storm walls, I can see it all laid out so clearly I feel like it's already happened. In a vacuum sure, Newsom did some awful poo poo during COVID in the name of his own comfort and political security, and his rush to open 'er up to try and stave off recall is quite literally trading lives for his job. But we're not in a vacuum, and Gavin being recalled pretty much locks in him getting replaced by a right-wing nutter like Jenner or The Rock or whoever.

Seize all hospitals to provide care for CA residents. UC can start accrediting medical doctors. Execute the police. No questions. Thank you, good night.

If it turns into a clown car mess without the well-polished presence Arnold had, I think the establishment Republicans look at this as an attempt from the kook base to subvert the primary system and join in shutting it down. Gavin's up literally next year, and they can have the candidate of their choosing instead of questions about why wasn't Jenner responsible for the death in that car crash. Edit: You'll know when the state GOP sees Jenner as a threat when they start deadnaming her repeatedly. There's no reason to even try to appear inclusive to the queer alphabet while "just asking questions" about her, because the Democrats will probably be doing that tactic already. How many times do I have to tell people. If the recall happens, your new governor will be![]() El Mero Mero posted:Yeah I don't actually think he's recall-level bad, just milquetoast disappointment bad. Like dude was agitating for a Western States Compact that would distribute ventilators and PPE when Tromp was raiding places so Kushner could sell it off. His budget helped keep schools funded through this year. Then he had his stupid brunch and lost all nerve and bent the knee a little to Trump because the fucker might win and he didn't want a vindictive idiot canceling all of the CA wildfire federal aid because Gavbot made Trump sad. Granted, the state was hamstrung by a lot of idiocy and uncertainty at the federal level. He doesn't rise to the level of recall. If loving Ted Cruz can nope of out Texas during IceStorm 2021 and retain his seat... but absolutely should be an example of CA needing actual progressive leadership.

I've said it repeatedly through this thread: He repeatedly owns himself with displays of jet-set elitism that communicates how he deserving he is of privilege. The French Laundry is just the most obvious one. The biggest threat to defeating this recall is if he decides to do something like stop traffic on the Bay Bridge to hold a televised address on the span about the importance of infrastructure.

yeah, that's what's always been so frustrating about newsom; he's actually been pushing some legit progressive stuff throughout his career. cash assistance to unhoused folks, same sex marriage during the bush administration, and guaranteed admission to SFSU for all SF county high school grads who want it are the three that stand out in my memory of his time as mayor. he's no bernie though, not by a drat sight, and his businesses and developer connections plus his taste for fancy poo poo have always (rightfully) overshadowed his progressive planks. i've never been able to parse if he's a progressive who got corrupted or just a shrewd ladderclimber. it doesn't much matter; the results the same either way.

Newsom put his presidential aspirations ahead of the lives of his constituents and got Californians killed. It was absolute cowardice, and he deserves to be recalled. However, he would almost certainly be replaced by someone worse because our political system sucks rear end. I do think the moment has passed though, unless covid makes a huge comeback here between now and voting time.
