The FOX segments in general suck because they always have to have differing opinions, and it's plainly obvious when they don't actually feel that way.

Also Ariel trying his best to impersonate Chael's on-air persona and it just doesn't work.

He's a name/former champ, went on a decent streak outside of the UFC and HW is very shallow. As for the when, like less than a month ago, he hasn't fought yet.

Arlovski has some name value, he'll look good smashing a couple cans and then make somebody else look good smashing him. I'm honestly kind of surprised they didn't bring him back before now, since he left on pretty good terms.

Didn't they put his last two fights on random undercards because he wouldn't resign? Seems like there were mildly bad feelings.

Only his last fight was on the prelims; the one before that was on the main card, and it was his fight against Werdum, which I think probably had more to do with his last one being on the prelims because his fight with Werdum was really fuckin' bad.

MMAjunkie news on why Cerrone isn't fighting Nurmagomedov (or Diaz)

quote:

While it’s hard to find anyone willing to complain about the UFC’s recently announced Donald Cerrone vs. Jim Miller matchup, some fans did immediately wonder where that left Khabib Nurmagomedov.

After all, wasn’t “The Eagle” deserving of a big fight?

MMAjunkie has learned that UFC officials did indeed plan a big fight for the undefeated 25-year-old grappler, but that Nurmagomedov had to withdraw his name from consideration.

Sources close to the promotion who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss such matter publicly told MMAjunkie that UFC officials were hoping to book Cerrone vs. Nurmagomedov for UFC Fight Night 45, which takes place July 16 at Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. However, when reps from the fighter’s management team were approached about the potential date, they were forced to decline before even learning about the matchup.

“We were never offered an opponent but were just asked to fight on that date,” Mike Constantino of MVC Sports Management told MMAjunkie. “At that time, I informed the UFC that it was Ramadan and that Khabib would be unavailable.”

Nurmagomedov is a Dagestani-born fighter who began training in martial arts at the age of 5. He’s also a practicing Muslim who observes an annual month of fasting known as Ramadan. During the observance, which takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Muslims refrain from consuming any food or liquids from dawn until sunset each day, making the rigors of training camp, not to mention weight-cutting or an actual fight, nearly impossible.

Constantino said Nurmagomedov will immediately resume a full training regimen after Ramadan, which this year runs from June 28 to July 28. With that in mind, Constantino said his client would be ready to go in “late August or early September” and is happy to fight “whoever is put in front of him to get a title shot the fastest.”

As an interesting side note, MMAjunkie has also learned that prior to Nurmagomedov being ruled out of the July 16 date, UFC officials had also considered pairing Nurmagomedov with Jim Miller while pitting Cerrone against Nate Diaz in a rematch of their December 2011 meeting, which “Cowboy” has expressed an interest in revisiting. However, a source close to the promotion said Diaz didn’t respond to several attempts to reach him directly and was then ruled out of the contest, leaving UFC officials to consider Cerrone vs. Nurmagomedov.

Diaz’s manager, Mike Kogan, said he was never contacted in regards to the potential contest.

“Nobody called me about a Cerrone fight,” Kogan said. “I’m not ignoring anybody. I’m pretty sure in my job description it says, ‘Don’t ignore calls and texts related to people you represent.’”

Once Nurmagomedov was ruled out, as well, the Cerrone vs. Miller match became the most logical option.

For more on UFC Fight Night 45, stay tuned to the UFC Rumors section of the site.

Silently acknowleging a man named Khabib from Dagestan is Muslim and that the Diaz's continue to have the most incompetent manager.

I think he meant EliteXC (although maybe Strikeforce did it early on?) In EliteXC if the ref thought there wasn't enough action on the mat he would put you on the clock which meant a timekeeper would start a 15 second countdown where if the action didn't pick up you'd be stood up. Sadly he couldn't do the same on the feet which would result in being put in 50-50 guard or something.

I really doubt Joe is the one who was bullshitting us about that. I'm certain what happened is Nick agreed to go on the podcast and flaked on it, which is what basically everybody expected from the beginning. Nick routinely skips out on UFC pressers that he was contractually obligated to do, its crazy to expect him to actually fulfill an informal agreement to go on a podcast. He probably told Joe he'd be on the show, then later he realized that would entail sitting in a room and talking to people for 90+ minutes and he decided he couldn't handle that.

I'd say what Joe should have done is tried to get Nate on the show, because I think Nate would actually show up and do it. Alternatively Joe should have just kept it to himself until he'd actually recorded the show, and only then made an announcement about it. Don't count your Nick Diaz interviews before they've hatched.
