I use Clover Paint, it's by far the best android painting app I've come across (having tried sketchbook pro and artflow - both were good, but sketchbook lacked stylus button support, and artflow was a touch clunky to use).

On desktop I use photoshop, but I don't really draw/paint much on it anymore.

What d'ya'll use for drawing in? Been using Photoshop CS6, but there is soo much lag from the Wacom. Tried CS2 (which adobe has put out for free!), but the smoothing is horrible (spacing set to 1%, the lines are just really wobbly.) So, Paint Tool SAI? Manga Studio? Something else?

Sketchbook Pro has both an awesome pencil tool and really good tablet controls, so it's great for sketching (as the name implies). Not as full featured as some of the other programs, but really fast and easy to use.

Lost interest trying to render the hair and just called it a day. Didn't really capture the likeness that well in retrospect but hey. My eyes generally seem to be pretty good at picking up what's wrong, it's just getting these stupid hands to co-operate

Video games?"
"He enlists the help of strangers to make his perfect video game. When he gets bored of an idea, he murders them and moves on to the next, learning nothing in the process."
"Hmm... interesting."
Eh, in case you're still interested in an outside opinion, I think the model's eyes are larger, but the mouth smaller. Otherwise, I think the hair is good, but I'm a stupid newb. Maybe it doesn't copy the model's hair exactly, but it is quite believable in the role of hair.:)

Yeah - the eyes are the worst offenders, and I think there's a whole myriad of other little things which kill any real likeness. Nose is a touch too small maybe, the shape of the overall face and cheeks are a little off, head is probably too wide and the ear isn't even close now I really look at it.

I find it really difficult at times to see what I'm drawing as actual shapes and forms. Instead I fall into the trap of 'oh hey that's an ear - I know what they look like!' :eng101: And the reference goes out the window. Will crank out another study this evening and will hopefully be a little more diligent this time.

So there's a facebook group about it but I'll sum it up here using their banner and some info:

So the gist is as it says, go to a random street view place and paint it. Sometimes nice scenic photographic views are great but if you do it maybe try to force yourself to do some mundane pictures. Someone in the group did a painting of the inside of a train and it looks rad as heck.

A good helper tool for this is a thing called MapCrunch which takes you to a random streetview location (though the main page has a really gorgeous View Of The Day right now).

It could be a fun activity! I don't know if I'll be able to do it for a while but I'm sure some of you would have fun. Maybe it could even be next month's theme, who knows!

I really love this idea, I hope it'll be next month's theme, and I'm gonna try and do something for this today!

Since you're working from a photo you can also try turning it upside down. Sometimes that helps so much it almost feels like cheating.

Or just put your study on top of the image, and resize it to fit. Switch the layer on and off and see exaaactly what you did wrong. You've got the technology and you've done the study, might as well just learn everything you can from it. Then, write down what you did wrong in general terms. Not "her right eye too small", but "I didn't accept the perspective in the photo and tried to twist her facial features towards the camera". Then you can know the next time you do a study that you tend to do this, and try to catch yourself doing it so you can correct it earlier. (If you did this you'd also know that her head is the perfect size, and not too wide as you thought!)

Oh, wow, it's been a long time since I've drawn anything just for fun or to experiment. Decided to try out a new blending technique I saw yesterday:

That's about a half-hour. The line work was done in Manga Studio 5 and the painting was done in PhotoShop CS5.

EDIT: And in video form:

It's a little easier if you just remember that the end half is a cartilidge (how the gently caress do you spell that) bulb and the first half is a bone shaft and that it's not one continuous piece under the skin

Hah - eyes are always an issue. :suicide: I think what happens is I inevitably have to go and correct the eyes at some point, and as I alter and paint over the shapes I end up gradually shrinking them down without really noticing. They're always larger in my original sketch. Something to look out for from now on - thanks!

Cranked out one more:

Actually really happy with this - went against my instincts and attempted to actually 'paint' rather than draw if that makes sense. Think it turned out nicer than the last one and took a fraction of the time too.

Yeah... I think you just can't avoid prettifying your babes, is all. :v: (Except for the bizarre eye issue. :stare:) I mean, the dude looks almost identical, except for some perspective issues (and his hair could do with some more highlights to distinguish it from the background).
