Ironsights posted:I wonder if these Elysium style exo-suits are going to be a core part of the game or just some killstreak. It'd certainly change the map design around if players could leap two stories all the time. Guessing you'll have the exo-suits by default and they'll be like Crysis and you can call in the big motherfucker as a killstreak and it'll be AW's version of the Juggernaut.

MizPiz posted:So what's the over/under that Advance Warfare will end (unintentionally) with Kevin Spacey being the most sensible character in the game and PMCs actually being sympathetic? Since BlOps2 I figured it would be a given, but I'd like something more conclusive. To be fair, I'm not entirely sure that wasn't intentional on Blops 2's part.

MizPiz posted:I could see that, but I just saw it as a means to say the good guys are always good even when the bad guy is sympathetic. There's just not enough to show that you're actually supposed to identify with the character. I dunno. I got the ending where Menendez kills Frank and the vibe I got sure felt like "Frank had this coming to him."

The weird thing is that it really looked like Ghosts was gonna one-up Black Ops 2 in the crazy department by a lot. WALKING DOWN BUILDINGS, SPACE LASERS, AMERICA'S DEAD, HERE'S A DOG , FIGHT IN SPACE, FIGHT ON A TRAIN, FIGHT UNDERWATERRRRRRR, JUGGERNAUTS WITH KNIVES, THE LEVELS CHANGE, WHISTLE AND SUMMON A DOOOOOOG And then it somehow took all that and made it boring as sin.

I hope Bobby Kotick went up to Microsoft and told him he was gonna wipe his rear end with that exclusivity contract and got Microsoft to cough up to keep it in place because otherwise not getting out of it really isn't a smart move for Activision. Heheh, campoflauge. Some editor has a sense of humor.

People love having a reason to keep playing beyond getting more kills and calling in Titans that die in five minutes. People keep going "oh what you can't play a game for the sake of a game you need a little carrot to chase after, huh? " and I'm like no, you dunce, I need more than 5 minutes worth of loving gameplay for my sixty dollar investment. I don't consider anything in Black Ops 2's campaign as offensive as Ghosts and the fact that you literally patrolled a giant concrete wall that was there to stop the browns from getting in and destroying America. Also the fact that America thought it was cool to put a giant loving railgun in space and when the Federation hijacks it, OH MY GOD WHAT A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE LOSS OF LIFE, but then when South America builds their giant gently caress off space gun and we hijack it and wipe tons of them out, gently caress yeah space America Black Ops 2 was fun in its insanity instead of retarded, is what I'm getting at. God, I hate Ghosts.

It's the only thing you can do. It honestly really sounds like Sledehammer is taking a honest try at semi-overhauling CoD or at least injecting some much needed new life into it. If you're gonna do that with such a big series, you also need to give the babies who will whine about any kind of change their security blankets. That thing about upgrading scorestreaks sounds really similar to a rumor I heard last week. I know it probably doesn't mean anything, but man, I cannot wait for the 11th.

Ghosts is a technical fuckup on PS4, framerate drops to 20s often because of some crazy frame skipping issue, scoping through those advanced digital scopes drops the FPS etc. Not a fluid experience at all, loving unbearable to be honest. I mean, granted, that could just be because Infinity Ward is a miserable fuckup of a studio.

IM DAY DAY IRL posted:Now? Towards the end of the BLOPS2 days I'd pretty regularly run a class with a launcher as a secondary because 90% of the time when you'd hear the "enemy UAV/CUAV/w.e" announcement you could drop it within 5 seconds. I started doing this because I had run into a couple games where we played someone who did it to me and it was incredibly frustrating therefor I had to adopt it. It's a bit of a waste of a pick-X slot but can also be helpful while trying to run up your own streaks. PDW+Stock & Laser Sight (or MSMC+Stock and Extended Clip) SMAW or FHJ Hardline Scavenger Engineer EMP Grenade Tactician Wildcard -> Black Hat Disregard kills, acquire points.

Fibby Boy posted:Sledgehammer games on TTK: "We want it to be closer to Blops 2's ttk." I hope there's a balance they can find between "TTK is too high with the movement speeds, game feels clunky and slow" and "You melt a guy if you catch him without boosting." Nice to hear that BO2 is their goal, though. They've been giving tons of lip service to Black Ops 2 and I don't think anybody's even mentioned Ghosts, which shows they recognize how the community received it at least.

JackGeneric posted:That happens with every CoD release, just due to the offset of development schedules, but yeah, I'd be fine if everybody ignored Ghosts forever. There were what, maybe two good ideas in Ghosts? Making the underbarrel shotgun work (or work better, at least), and DMRs as a separate class. It honestly had a few decent ideas. Extinction was cool, I thought Field Orders were a nice idea and the map-specific streaks tied into them were cool. The way they tweaked Specialist was good too. The problem is that they had these good ideas that were mired in terrible execution. Field Orders didn't work because the high TTK usually meant you got melted before you got a chance to complete them, or there was an equal chance of you getting some asinine gimmick (get a jumpshot kill, wtf?), something simple and easy (headshot) or just plain grotesque ("humiliate", ). Extinction was a great idea, but shelling out for all the DLC for a total of four levels is bullshit. And the map-specific streaks on every level except HOTDOG were garbage to the point where you usually might as well not bother. Plus, the presence of Field Orders meant no more Care Packages, which thank god AW is backtracking on. Also, the revolver was amazing. I felt like a god when I one-shotted somebody with it.

Wazzit posted:Once per life? What's the loving point? That sounds really dumb. That seems like something that should have been a rechargeable battery and recharge time is different for each ability. But what do I know. I can't help but think of the Stim ability in Titanfall and how you can pop it to instantly start health regen basically whenever you want. It's not terribly unbalanced in that game because that game (to its great detriment!) is more about farming bots and using Titans than pilot-to-pilot PVP anyway, but it could get seriously out of hand in CoD.
