The best thing about those is they heat faster than cast iron and can allow fond to build on the surface if you want to make pan sauces. I think you'll enjoy its many uses.

Finishing a pan sear in the oven is nice if you got a thick piece of meat.

The real thing to laugh at is them not using a sous vide to get their food evenly cooked to temperature then finishing with a hot sear with a blowtorch.

what's inside? why, magic the gathering fatpack boxes! lots of them!

you might be thinking, "why would you pay money for a whole bunch of empty boxes?" well, one day I want to open a small game store, and having empty boxes like these on upper shelves would make for excellent display props. the old card shop I used to go to did it all the time, putting empty booster boxes on the upper shelves or along windowsills and such to add a bit of variety. plus I can actually use them for storing things in, they're good boxes, unlike the current fatpack boxes which are not designed properly to hold cards without support anymore, I had a few cards get creased by the lid before I started putting cardboard inside to provide a buffer.

Whelp, just said gently caress it and bought a bunch of photography poo poo from Moment.

Ordered some lenses & magsafe compatible cases for the new iPhone since both my partner and I picked them up with a recent trade in promotion:

For the case, ordered an anamorphic and telephoto lens that screws into it:

Hoping these should provide some extra optical zoom and interesting wide angle photos with the phone.

And my favorite thing, a magnetic tripod adapter:

And lastly the moment camera app itself. It’s not a dslr replacement by any stretch, but should be a fun bit of kit to bring backpacking and traveling, and with the ability to shoot long exposure and lower light conditions I’m kind of excited to see if I can get night sky shots on my phone!

Hmm, what have we here?
I am 100% interested in hearing more about attachable lenses for my iPhone Pro because it’s now the best quality camera I own.

Is it more than a gimmick? Does it help make up for the sensor size? What’s the cost like?

Lenses for phones are great, I've used various ones for almost 10 years now. That said, I use them almost entirely for macro photos like taking pictures of cool insects and whatnot. In my experience, macro lenses work great on phones. I've used some cheap wide angles and small (~2x?) telephotos and they're kind of meh. Specifically, the cheap wide angle and telephoto ones I've tried either have a lot of distortion around the edges and/or get a lot of vignetting around the edges.

Right now I use Olloclip lenses because I didn't want to commit to a specific phone case to use them; I can't comment on Moment but I've heard plenty of good things about them.

I’ve had the clip on ones in the past and was less than impressed for the 40ish bucks I threw at them. I think the best way to go is to buy into a compatible case system, and that’s what I like about Moment, is they have a universal thread system for their cases. Stupid expensive, but the case has a magsafe extender with magnets built in which is spiffy. I’ve tried my buddy’s moment camera and the extra width on the animorphic is real nice for framing things, and a side by side comparison of stuff we both took pictures of is a compelling endorsement. Definitely not as good as a dslr lens, but the moment ones seem to be well made, and being to magnet my phone to a tripod opens up a whole new world of photos, including hopefully some night sky raw shooting with extra long exposure and stuff.

There is absolutely no attachable lenses that will improve the quality of the Pro cameras. Back in the day when there was only 1 optical focal length on these things the fisheye or tele lenses had some use, but now that's built in and much better quality and glass than these little addons. Photography is still limited by the physics of light and material science even at its best these will only degrade image quality because you're still just shooting through the built in lens instead of removing it like an SLR. If there's a neat gimmick lens then sure, have fun, but if you have the Pro with the wide/normal/tele cameras just stick to that.

Scots is a dialect (arguably a separate but closely related language) with it's own rules of spelling and grammar different from that of English

It's not an accent any more than Norwegian is accented Danish or Yiddish accented German.

A confusion which can also lead to some real poo poo, like a huge portion of the Scots wikipedia being written by a random American teenager who just randomly added words from scots into english sentences, which probably just confirmed for a lot of people that it wasn't a real, distinct, language : https://slate.com/technology/2020/09/scots-wikipedia-language-american-teenager.html.

Nothing really, they're just insanely sharp and high quality. Cuts smoothly through nails like they're not even there as opposed to prior clippers I've used that meet resistance and then *CLIP*, often sending the bit of clipped nail flying.

I got a pair for one person and warned them of it being super sharp, so naturally the first thing they did was run their fingertip along the edge and slice open their finger because it's SUPER SHARP

I bought new bone conduction earphones because Aftershokz makes (somewhat) cheaper models now:

I had been using old panasonic ones I apparently bought from Woot in 2015, but they used a AAA battery which was annoying to replace and made them somewhat uncomfortable (because the battery weighed down the back).

(I like them for riding on bike paths and stuff like that although it's probably arguable whether they're any safer than cheap open earphones that don't block much noise, like you might get for $5, and even if they don't physically block noise, the audio will distract you/prevent you from hearing noises around you. It's probably better to just not listen to music when biking on streets with traffic and situations like that.)

Not the exact image, but Weathertech floor mats, front and back seats (thankfully, hatchback area already had a factory waterproof liner) for my "new" car (previously posted 2019 Crosstrek.)

I've used other, cheaper, after market floor mats before and never liked them...they were always those thick rubber kind. These are smaller and seem better, form fitted to perfectly match the car, hard plastic which feels better when resting my feet on them, etc...

Of course, based on what I can see in their "About Us" page, they have the trappings of a Chud company, but drat, it doesn't seem like anyone else makes as good a product, and not THAT expensive, either.

For the crosstrek specifically I would look at the Husky floor mats which are very similar but did a better job in my 2017 Impreza of covering the dead pedal. Agree with SpartanIvy that any new car purchase should come with some high quality floormat set, they are great.

I'll 3rd them. I love the ones I got for my jeep a few months ago. The carpet mats I had were so caked with salt and dirt were horrible looking. And my heel dug a void into the mat. Weathertech mats have been great. They fit like a glove. They don't move. They are very easy to take out and power wash clean.
Also, fairly inexpensive for just the 2 front mats. I expected them to be almost double.
