There is something in US law that states if someone ships a product to you that you didn't order, legally it becomes yours and you don't have to pay for it or return it. I remember learning about it in 8th-grade civics and we had to do a project to explain how Columbia House CD club was legal (because you agree up-front to receive and pay for regular deliveries).

Yeah, this was put into law because there used to be a scam where people would mail you something and then try to bill you for it afterwards

Last year Bandai accidentally double shipped a bunch of limited edition, sold out Warhammer action figures to people and didn't have enough to fulfill all their orders because of it.

They had to beg people to return the extras since legally they owned them now.

I remember worrying about that 10 CDs for a penny (tape it on the envelope) deal and the subsequent spam CDs and my credit as a small child. Then someone told me someone under 18 can't enter into a legally binding contract. I just went with that. Credit didn't take a hit :sweatdrop:

My freshman year of college, early fall there was a woman on campus trying to get people to sign up for a credit card.

I told her that I couldn't as I was only 17 at the time, and this woman from the credit card company told me that was perfect, and to sign up, buy a bunch of things, and then never have to pay because of the aforementioned "can't enter into a contract because you're under age" thing.

I feel like that on paper, sure, maybe that would work... but in actuality, someone somewhere would determine that me being only 1 month away from 18 is close enough and I would have been saddled with consumer debt at a nice early age.

They just would have declined your application. Or go after you for fraud, which would have been worse.

My mom took out a credit card in my name right after I was born.

She paid it off without any faults so my credit age shows as my actual age when I get a report.

My friend's mom did the same thing to him, only not as nice. He still can't get a bank account because she ran so much fraud through his name and social security number. I guess the only way to get it fixed would get her in trouble too, so he won't do it.

But their family is a real mess. Imagine the trashiest white trash and then add domestic violence to it. He stayed over at my place a lot as a kid. Once for an entire summer. When my mom called over to ask if it was OK his dad said we could keep him if we wanted.

Minors can generally enter contracts just fine, they're just nearly always voidable by the child to prevent them being exploited. So companies wisely avoid making contracts with them.

I finally decided to ask my 2 older siblings about it earlier this year and just got an “lmao what” back so it was just me.

Must have been some sweet reference bonus.

My car's slave cylinder is failing, so I ordered a new one through RockAuto. And since it's internal, and I do not want to go in there twice if I don't have to, I ordered a new clutch and flywheel as well. Hitting 60k miles today. I definitely couldn't afford this. :homebrew:

Just got my new Macross 82-99 “A Million Miles Away” and need to quit looking at eBay before cracking plastic. Why don’t they make more of these shits so people can obtain them and I don’t feel irresponsible for bringing it into my dirty Cheetoh filled home?

2016 Ford Focus ST. Slave cylinder failure isn't terribly uncommon on them but it is a bit early for it. I don't really beat on it either. The trans itself is fine.

Yeah that was my point, I just didn’t make it well.

We tell them the environment is in trouble so they fit their trucks to roll coal.

We tell them there’s a pandemic and to wear a mask to protect their own families so they hold maskless public gatherings out of spite.

People will use MORE water on purpose because of this.

I don't know whats going on with florida. But in california, with their chronic water shortages, the bulk of water usage is going to the agribusiness. The almond industry in particular is the biggest offender. Something like 10% of california water usage is residential. And yet, the responsibility is placed on the average person to reduce their consumption. Good news, the average floridian deciding to water their lawns more often in protest probably wont make much of a difference. Bad news, this looks like an institutional problem that's being passed off onto the individual to solve.
