Thanks for the suggestions. Will definitely be doing plenty of outdoor adventurey stuff. That sloth sanctuary actually looks really awesome, but is's on the opposite coast from where we're staying (Jaco), so probably won't make it out there this time.

I think that cheese enthusiasts are way less insufferable than uber beer and wine snobs. Pretty much all cheese talk is "This was awesome. This other one was amazing. This one was pretty good." There's pretty much zero of the "That one that YOU like is loving garbage. The one that I like is the only good one on the planet." Also waaaayyyyy less bullshitty "This has notes of stone fruit, raw almond skin, green post oak, wet hay and Elmer's red glitter glue." The only real cheese snobbery that you'll hear is people making fun of cheap American cheese products. Even that is a mixed bag, since many of us will willingly admit that some Velveeta queso dip is still delicious, and Kraft singles are still the one true cheese for neighborhood cookout burgers. Eat more cheese.

I'm the exact opposite. The DE razor with Feather blades is an absolutely massive improvement over any multibladed razor I have ever tried. After trying four different highly rated shave soaps/creams, I never found one that I thought was any better than Edge Sensitive Gel, and they just took way longer. Coffee and Pie: The assorted pack of razors is neat, but just order Feathers. The Goon shaving thread warns that they are NINJA SHARP, but I have cut myself a whopping one time in the last 8 months using them. They are so much smoother than any other blade in my variety pack. Astras were good, but still a distant second. Recent Purchase: It's going to be 103 today. This should be fun to install....

It's a Google product. Google owns Youtube. Youtube Red is not going well for them, so they are giving away free Red time with this purchase to incentivize this purchase, as well as get people to try, and hopefully like, Red. I'd say that it's a good bet that anyone purchasing a home AI assistant already has at least a computer to watch Youtube on.

Coffee And Pie posted:I usually alternate the feathers and Astras. Feathers are way sharper, but Astras don't dull as fast, and feel generally gentler. I know that we have this derail least twice a year in this thread, but... For those of you who are still shaving with Gilettes, or any type of disposables, wet shaving with a safety razor really is absolutely WAY better, and cheaper in the long run. The Mach 3 was the least terrible cartridge I found, but it still was a pain in the rear end and I loving hated it. Safety razor with Feather blades made shaving go from actively hating it to pretty much just meh. You do not need to invest in the crazy brushes and soaps to get benefit (even though they are pretty great). Supermarket shave gel with a safety razor and good blades alone is dramatically better. Note: There ARE bad blades out there, like Shark. Go to the goon shaving thread for advice, but Astras and Feathers are the overwhelmingly suggested choices for a reason.

bongwizzard posted:Nope, they fell into disuse because they are inferior product in about every way compared to a reasonable multi blade razor. Unless you are super hard up and somehow saving that $200 a year in razors is going to make or break your life, don't bother with that stuff and just buy a good cartridge change and it and regularly. This is definitively not my experience, sorry. The only thing that I found less good about my safety razor was blade coverage. With my Mach 3, if the blade went over a spot enough to remove the shaving cream, it was smooth. With the safety razor, the outside edges were not, so I had to overlap passes by a little to get a smooth shave. Literally every other aspect of the shave was better for me with the safety razor.

bongwizzard posted:So it takes longer to get the same result, but is somehow better? It took about 20% longer, the blades cut through my super coarse hair much more smoothly, and left virtually zero irritation/bumps/ingorwn hairs, unlike the Mach 3 or Quattro before. So yes, that is much, much better. I give zero shits about "steampunk shaving", going with the cheapest merkur handle I could find, sticking with standard supermarket shaving cream because the brush/soap was not worth the effort to me. Shaving was extremely unpleasant to me, and I cared only about making the act itself better. Safety razor with good blades was drastically better for me.

Crock pots these days take foods up to 200+ degrees, even on low. Sous vide is a specific temperature that you decide, and it stays there. Ex: A steak is medium rare at 132ish degrees inside. You put it in a water bath that is 132 degrees. It is perfectly cooked. It physically cannot overcook. I love my sous vide machine. It's not the only kitchen gadget you need. It won't completely transform your cooking experience forever. It has it's own issues, but it is a neat thing that is uniquely capable of some cool stuff.

If you have an on/off, or older crock pot with an analog dial, the temp controller will work. Newer Smart Pots that control digitally already will not, yeah.

OSU_Matthew posted:Not to beleauger the point too much, but that won't work without a water circulator. You'll just wind up with different temperature zones of too hot/too cold Ehhhh. It helps, but is not strictly necessary. The natural convection of the water with a temperature differential is good enough. The Sous Vide Supreme unit uses no circulator, and there has been no widespread issues. A circulator probably just speeds things up a little bit. Edit: I started off with a Sous Vide Supreme and liked it a lot. Very sturdy. ↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓ Doom Rooster has a new favorite as of 19:16 on Dec 5, 2016 |

I always had major problems with eye strain and image clarity on modern LCD displays. A friend got me to try out a cheap old CRT and it made a huge difference. It's pretty obvious that all of the monitor "advances" over the last 25+ years are just BS sold to us by BIG MONITOR to make us buy new things that we do not need. With CRTs, a replacement pack of 6 costs less than one new LCD does too.

New power supply and graphics card. A new car! Not my picture, but it is the color that I got it in, and man is it pretty. A significant improvement over my 2014 in almost every way, and I loved my 2014. Not super happy right now though, since while pulling out of the service bay, one of employees rubbed it along another car. There was a 4" long white streak along the side (no scratch/dent), so they still have it at the dealership, and are going to have their paint guy fix it. It's raining balls right now though, so they are estimating Saturday based on forecast. "Congratualtions! Now go drive off in your new ca... Nevermind, take this 2 year old grey Malibu rental for the week..."

It does. I am the guy who goes to another restaurant if the quoted wait is more than 15 minutes, and I was only willing to do the Franklin trip since it was what my wife wanted for her birthday, but.. Franklin moist brisket is still without a doubt the best food I have ever eaten. I have since done the wait 5 more times. Bring friends, camp chairs, portable shade, and a cooler full of beer. Turn it into an excuse to start drinking with your buddies at 7am. poo poo, even the one time I went on my own and got a giant order to take to friends, it was still worth it.

I've had the 2017 model TCL for over a year now. The only thing that Argyle didn't mention/get right is the black levels. The blacks are really, really bad. Like, tried to watch Game of Thrones and most scenes in a crypt, or inside any dark building look like they are just disembodied heads floating in a sea of charcoal grey. Anything brighter though looks goddamn incredible. Major standouts are Planet Earth 2 and Chasing Coral. It's a 65" 4K HDR Roku TV for $480 on Amazon sale. Even with the lovely blacks, it's a steal even at normal price.

At least 75% of the food we ate there was just raw fruit.
