BIZORT posted:Orlando worked out Marcus Smart for a second time. God loving damnit Pretty sure the top 4 or 5 have not worked out for any specific teams yet (Randle included?)

People completely writing off Embiid are really stupid, considering Len was taken at 5 last year with a bad foot injury. Of course, there was poo poo talent at that point, but if you still think Embiid can be a really good player and not retire after 3 years, he's going 3-6. I've heard Magic fans say they wouldn't take Embiid at 12 which is hilarious when you look at the 12 picks from the last decade.

WhyteRyce posted:Len was taken in a weak draft where everyone mocked in the lottery had some kind of issue. Embiid is a much better prospect, but the second tier of this draft is also pretty good. Much better prospect is putting it lightly. Like I said, they just need to gather a lot of information on if his injuries are more likely to be a recurring thing. Yao had the same injury and it caused him to basically retire (but had way more wear and tear) - he's not Yao's size or weight though. Jordan also had the same surgery and we know how that turned out, but he's not 6'6 and his weight either.

Not to say that it isn't a big deal (it is), but I'd argue good big men have a longer shelf life than any other position (see Malone (x2), Duncan, Garnett, KAJ, Parrish)

Kevin Pelton wrote an article for ESPN that talks about it and the big men who've had it and says he's basically hosed.

Declan MacManus posted:Kevin Pelton isn't a doctor. No poo poo. I don't think teams are reading the Pelton article to debate whether they pick him or not. It's insider so I haven't read it but I'm in the camp that it isn't worth it to pass up on him past number 3 or 4. A lot of people seem to be overreacting though and bringing up how he is going to turn into Yao or Big Z.

Exum has the POTENTIAL to be great on defense, there were a few vids on him where people have pointed out he literally doesn't try going through screens and gets caught in no mans land sometimes. Also as a Magic fan I am so tired of Laker jokes we only lost one center to LA we traded Dwight there he wanted to go to the Nets ![]() ![]()

Embiid/Vucevic would be sort of awesome if Embiid doesn't turn into bubble boy

Here's a transcript from a ~real doc~ KeyShawn Johnson - "But doc, just look at the.. Greg Oden. He had knee problems coming in and the Portland Trailblazers still selected him - how many games did he wind up playing?." Dr. Klapper - "Well, it's like, it's a good point Keyshawn. It's all about location though, and for orthopedic surgery, it's all about where the fracture is.. and if the fracture is in a bone away from a joint, so his stress fracture in his back, not near the joint, the navicular bone - we can fix these, and you don't get an arthritic condition later on. That's the key. When poor Greg Oden suffered the knee injury, it was damaged and needed what's known as a microfracture, like aerating your lawn to get the seedlings to grow again, that's what a microfracture is.. but we're not good at fixing cartilage problems - that's why Kobe goes to Germany, and Andrew Bynum went there, and you look at the end of the career for many an athlete because of arthritis. These two injuries for Embiid can be fixed and he gets to move on." Later on @ approx 4:40 (in reference to Embiid) Keyshawn Johnson - "..you can go in the history of injuries from college to pros - think about all the big men in college basketball that had major injuries transferring to the NBA - they never turned out to do anything - and so for me to take him at (number) seven, with a foot injury, and the back, it scares me.. it just.." Dr. Klapper - "Yeah, you're totally right, and you know - let's not forget, when you're talking about basketball, where the goal is not ground-level like football, but is actually 10 feet above. The great James Naismith who invented the sport did this on purpose. He put the goal above the players so they wouldn't crash into each other like they do in football, and remember one thing - you need that foot of yours to leap to get to that basket, but the most important thing that foot does - is it gives you a soft landing. So to a big-man, this is a devastating injury - and that is why a stress fracture needed to have screws.. and tomorrow he's gonna get them in his foot - but I'm here to tell you - once it heals (like any fracture), there's even more bone than there was there before - this is not going to be a chronic problem." He makes some good points, I'm really warming to Embiid at 4.

I kind of don't like Vonleh either but that's just because he has no personality in all the interviews I saw, think he'll be pretty solid though
