I remember when he got that, I was sooo jealous. IIRC the IMSAs were also sold as 1987 model years, making them even more rare and unique in the US market. That fact that the only change from the regular All-Trac is some vinyls is amusing, I thought they also had some small interior changes.

If I had it to do again I would have spent more and bought an elan+2 or a first gen esprit but for a toy to gently caress around with and learn new stuff on it was great.

Definitely get the later model one with the toyota transmission and brakes, then when the 907 engine get boring or blows up put in a 1uz with itb's.

Full disclosure edit: I should mention that in the six years I owned it I put maybe 5500 miles on it and got to the point where I could pull the engine and transmission in half an hour. Also it was referred to as "The Lotus of Infinite Despair".

Eh, gently caress your 10k nonsense.

I drive a Mazdaspeed Protege. First factory Mazdaspeed model, last hurrah of the Protege/323 platform before the 3 replaced it. Only 4500 made during 1 model year; 1,700 2003s, and 2800 "2003.5"s (with a different body kit and darker wheels). Mine in particular is an 03.5, and one of only 500 in Blazing Yellow Mica, the Best Color (tied for rarest color with Sunlight Silver Metallic).

It also has the distinction of being the most powerful Protege ever built, at 170hp from the factory.

Also, the platform is the successor to the BH chassis; because Mazda skips the letter I for whatever reason, it's therefore called the BJ. :gay:

My Range Rover Classic is a GDE, #101 of 409. The Great Divide Edition was a limited edition they built after Land Rover did their Great Divide Expedition in 1989.

For some reason the GDE Rangies seem to be more highly sought after than any other RRC of that era. They have a special bronze plaque in the door jamb, a slightly different interior, and a couple minor external mods for 'offroading'. They were 1990 models sold as 1991s. Mine was built in May of '90.

The '73 Opel GT is probably the closest thing to a rare vehicle that I've owned (and even then, it was really my wife's) but that is far more due to the fact that they rust if you look at them funny and were expensive to repair in a crash, so very few are actually roadworthy.

Well, it's rare-er now that the guy who I sold my '70 GT hit a Redwood Tree with my old one at about 100mph and put the engine and front bumper into the spare tire storage.

I guess I'm a sucker for rare-ish stuff. My last car was a 2009 G8 GXP; about 1829 total cars were built, of which only ~800 of the 1800 or so were manual, and then once you got down to options it was one of 42 or so (a common configuration relatively speaking. There's a couple GXP option combinations that are single digit numbers.)

While we had the GXP we also had a 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, of which only 600 were imported in 2006. My wife totaled it last fall and I replaced it with another odd duck, a 2008 Saab 9-7x Aero, which is a somewhat de-Chevyified Trailblazer SS with a nicer interior but keeping the LS2. Only 500 9-7x Aeros were produced in 2008, and between '08 and '09 only something like ~621 total were built before things went south.

Now I drive an '05 E55 AMG which ironically is the most "common" of all these cars (at ~2200 produced in 2005 and less than 8,000 over the 2003-2006 run) and my wife has the Aero. Pretty happy with both actually. :)

Actually, I just looked outside and thought about this one.

It's almost certainly the only Nissan Laurel 1800-LPG in the UK, it was a high-mileage ex-taxi bought and imported by some guy in 2000 for reasons unknown (probably alcohol, it was for me). Nissan only sold the 1.8 of this model in Japan for commercial fleet use, directly to taxi drivers and driving schools, the engine was deemed too slow for actual consumers. Given that the newest one would be 1993, I suspect none of them are still in use commercially and were scrapped years ago. If there's any survivors they will probably just be the odd one which escaped to Russia as a budget used car and still survive. I'm only aware of one other survivor, some guy in Eastern Europe, not sure if he still has it. I look forward to busting it out in a future "who has the lowest power/weight ratio" thread.

Thing is, American cars (at least until relatively recently) tend to have a lot more individual options, as opposed to total packages like imports tend to have (my MSP for example had no options to choose, it's a pretty big complaint about newer WRXs/GT86BR-S/etc).

I dunno about older Hondas though, any experience with those?

I remember reading somewhere that some math smart guy said there was some ridiculous amount of option variables to order the 1957 Chevy in.
Just because you could order a bench seat with a floor shift, ashtray delete with some crazy color combination that no one else would think to do doesn't make it 'Super rare!! Only one of two in the world!!!' it just means someone had an idea of the perfect car that not many people agreed with. Same with any car that you can build to order. The other day I PDI'd a base 911 with some woodgrain, light grey lower and tan upper interior. It was also fitted with a Burmeister stereo, clear tail lights, PDK and PCCB brakes. It was way more expensive than a base Carrera S but was just optioned up with a weird list of stuff. It's not rare, just oddly optioned.
