It's the Combat Search And Rescue (CSAR) operation from two weeks ago, tweaked and modified based on player feedback!

An F-15E Strike Eagle has been downed in Iran. Pararescue is on the way, but they need the area to be clear. The SAM sites responsible for the incident are also being targeted, both to clear the way for the CSAR op and as retribution.

Note that we expect the A10C II to be released this week, and therefore the A10C slots will be that version (barring any issues).

We'll try to accomodate if you want to fly but don't have any of the open aircraft. Just let me know!

When creating custom missions, is there a way during the mission to visually see the waypoint markers you place for the plane you're flying, or are those only for the benefit of AI?

Depends on whether the aircraft can load waypoints into it's navigation system, but generally yes.

The F10 map has a waypoint button on the top bar. Looks like zig zag line with circles at the end of each line segment. I don't know how it works. Keep clicking on your unit and the waypoint button, eventually you should see some lines and circles appear, maybe.

Yeah, and it should be out today.

A great way to check that out would be with Saturday's mission, plenty of A10 slots open, and the inset FLIR view could be really helpful in spotting downed pilots and the enemies searching for them!

If you buy the old A-10C on Steam, are you eligible for the $10 upgrade, bringing the grand total of the new A-10 to $70 instead of the standalone Tank Killer cost of $80?

Yep, they don't care how you got the A10 license or how much you paid, it's 10 bux. Sync it with your DCS profile.

I ordered it and I did the paypal thing. I'm doing like 15 things at once so I didn't watch it after the tx was done so they're processing the payment.

Paypal doesn't see anything as having happened and the purchase is in limbo waiting.

They're probably slammed atm but lol, how is their point of sale this bad? Did they code it in house?

You have both, which is good, because there's no training or mission content yet for the new one.

You need to install it with the module manager. My order took about 2 hours to complete after I paid for it though on the e shop. You will get a pop up when you open dcs that you have new content to install once its gone through.

Not sure I don't use steam for dcs. I'm sure some steam using DCS nerd can help. Though these days you can link your steam account to dcs and then get everything though the standalone client which does get some content faster.

Everything you normally use is the same. Some legacy systems were removed, and some were cut down. TISL, which was only ever used as a fall-back if your regular systems had been so shot up that you could no longer bomb accurately is gone, and you'll never notice — if you were that damaged, you didn't want to stay around and ineffectually drop free-fall bombs anyway. One of the radio panels has been reduced to a smaller model to make room for one more radio. That's about it.

The only function that you might use at times that is gone is TGP boresight — apparently that was never a thing so now that input does something else. But that doesn't matter because now you have a vastly more competent and useful sensor to do that, only much better: your helmet-mounted cuing system. It is cheatmode, through and through. This new sensors has a few new HOTAS shortcuts that you need to learn, but it's pretty intuitive if you're used to the regular sensor juggling in the old plane. This basically just means that some of your inputs that would previously not do anything will now have an effect because you have the HMCS selected as your sensor and the thing you're trying to manipulate.

GreatGreen posted:

The “module manager” is built into the client and it only really matters if you're running the stand-alone version. It's the little 3x3 square icon at the top of the main menu which lets you browse what modules are available for purchase, and which has a little red numbered overlay to indicate how many of your owned modules haven't been installed. Clicking that will pop up a dialogue box that asks if you want to install anything you haven't yet.

But again, that's just for the standalone version. In Steam, the “module manager” is just Steam's regular DLC management window — you manage your modules from there, and they are pretty much universally installed by default once you buy them.

The only thing that may trip you up here is that a lot of new modules only run on the beta client for the first couple of months, so you have to opt into and convert your install to Open Beta to get those modules to install. For Steam, this also follows the standard Steam procedure for such things: open the game properties and tab over to where you can do beta branch opt-ins. For the stand-alone version, you can either install the beta in parallel or update your current main install to the beta, but you have use a couple of (fairly trivial) command-line options to do so.

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/ is a good start for most of it — the open beta conversion method is cleverly hidden under the “Unable to install NEW product or an error message Unknown module appears” heading.
