DCS is running a sale through November 8th on their website. The standalone client works with your Steam purchases (but not the other way around, iirc). Now is a good chance to get Flaming Cliffs 3 if you are new and want several non-click planes (F-15, A-10A, Su-33, Mig-27, Mig-29), or if you want to commit to an emersive experience in a clickable cockpit there are many to choose from. Hot choices that are presently 50% off include the Harrier and the Mig-21. F-16 and F-18 have a smaller discount, but are feature rich. It might seem a bit daunting to get into, but our community has knowledgeable and friendly people to help dampen the learning curve.

Do you enjoy quirky, where the flying itself is the thing but shooting is fairly straight-forward? MiG Do you want sensible, where flying is straight-forward but shooting can get complex? Baguette. Alternatively… do you want your plane to have a place in most missions? Baugette. The MiG is often overlooked because of how odd it is, but if a mission is made with it in mind, it's an absolute blast.

The Mirage also goes really fast and doesn't flame out if you go too fast. (Its wings rip off before the engine dies.)

You should get the map for sure. Persian Gulf is much better than the default map and it's used just as much in multiplayer.

Persian Gulf ranks as the #1 or #2 purchase you need to make with DCS. You can keep having fun with almost any plane until you break down and get a new one, but flying over the Caucasus region for the umpteenth time gets old and as most people have been doing so for a decade, everyone is much more positive to play on and create content for PG. If you're in doubt, I'd say that the Mirage is a safer choice, because the Fishbed can be a bit of an acquired taste. Now, your bet is more along the line of whether safer is boring and whether your tastes are easily adaptable. e:f;b — yes, PG + MiG gives you lots of opportunities to get lost in the sand.

Also there's another mission this weekend: Operation Thousand Words  Syrian Democractic Forces have rallied in Aleppo. ISIL has consolidated in Raqqa and the surrounding area, including the airfield at Tabqa. One thing that has always frustrated me about DCS is how an update might completely change procedures that have been in place for years. I've been proficient with the A-10C (not the II subvariant) for 8-9 years. Tonight, I fired it up for the first time in six or eight months and when I try to drop GBU-12s I get nothing but "AUTOLASE FAIL" as my bomb sails off into the sunset. Recent updates have also changed the way laser-guided weapons are deployed in the F-18, so now I have to relearn a routine to fight in that. Other instances I can recall are changing the startup sequence in the Huey and the Bf-109. I get why it happens, but it's just frustrating and off-putting. I don't have a ton of time to devote to this and having the rug pulled out from under me annoys me.

This was fun (for me) last time, sounds like it should be fun for everyone this time. It is the free map, and there is a flight of the free Su-25 Frogfoot, so it is a great opportunity if you are interested trying DCS or a goon mission.

 I guess ED is posting a roadmap in a couple days, idk. Been having a blast with the helicopters. Thought I would never stop flipping these things over. I still flip them, but sometimes I manage to land. The Mi-8's autopilot helps a lot, I've been hand flying that metal potato for like 5 hours at this point and it's a nice break .

I just found out about DCS Liberation and have been having a lot of fun with it the past week. It's the closest thing to a dynamic campaign we'll get for now. There's some good play throughs on youtube if you want to check it out.

If you like that, and have IL-2, try the Pat Wilson Campaign Generator. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/31229-get-pwcg-here/ It's a fan campaign generator that's supposedly better than the stock one. I haven't figured out how to get work it yet but it's promising
