This bodes poorly for Animal Crossing and RE3.

i don't think anyone has ever claimed it to be perfect and there are certainly things that drag it down; people discussing those things in this thread has always been within the thread's purview. people saying "no, that's not my experience" or "that's a misconception" isn't the same as telling you you can't complain about it

2077's going to cause a horrible shitstorm literally no matter how good or bad it's going to be, because I feel like it's the game that's got the most vicious and self-important consumer base I've ever seen, and I honestly dread its release date.

2077? I can't wait to see the blowback on Vampire Bloodlines 2. The first has 15 going on 16 years of people evangelizing it. While the second has only been announced for a couple years, the first is such a cult classic that the sequel could come with a crisp $1000 bill tucked into each copy and it would not be able to live up to the first in the minds of the fanbase.

I think we'll be safe from blowback if Bloodlines 2 ends up not meeting expectations, because that's a fanbase that's used to being jerked around and disappointed. They'll probably be happy with, like, a 6 or a 7 as long as it doesn't directly insult their politics (which is, you know, a valid fear with WoD of late), because at least they got SOMETHING. And if it ends up below that they'll just have a resigned 'oh well, at least we got it'.

2077's fanbase feels like they have the exact level of entitlement to really get dire, especially when you mix in how politically-charged it's inevitably going to be. They've definitely got the people who will bring the loving knives out on anyone who considers the game less than perfect, and unfortunately, the demographics to make that actually concerning and dangerous instead of just funny or sad.

Actually, I think people would be much more tolerant of bugs than they would of a lot of other things. If it's half-finished and tends to crash a lot, but it feels like an updated version of the original (with a new story) then people won't care about the bugs. But if it seems like they changed too much from the first game it won't matter if it runs flawlessly or even if it's an excellent game on its own merits.

Bloodlines 2 is the sequel to a 15 year old cult-classic while 2077 is the followup to one of the biggest games of the past 5 years so I think expectations are a bit different.

Oh no!😱

I feel like the original Bloodlines is a game that more people have heard of than have actually played, or at least played for any real length of time. Like it shows up in various listicles all over the place, but to actually play it requires the right combination of fan patches, and even then its buggy and unfinished in places and kind of a pain in the dick. So the sequel doesnt need to be like the original so much as it needs to be like the game people have heard about, if that makes sense? I'm trying to think of a good analogy, but best I have is "Making a game called Rambo, and what people would expect from that" vs "Making a game that was a faithful adaptation of Rambo: First Blood".

I'm enjoying Doom Eternal a lot so far (especially now that I've learned how crucial using the chainsaw and flamethrower all the time is. Hey have you thought about how weird it is that the chainsaw fuel regenerates haha that's not like real life at all) but I'm not a fan of all this Night Sentinel stuff. It's just a bit too... "High Fantasy", for lack of a better term, and feels out of place when there's so much of it. I think we'd be fine sticking with cults and corporations, with maybe some stuff like that as background detail. In addition, every cutscene would work way better if it actually stayed in first person, but I don't that's a controversial opinion.

what I find amusing is when a game is merely good instead of perfect and people start pointing it out to the people who got very hyped about it its always the same story of them getting really really intense about it not having problems while the people pointing out its problems are saying its still pretty good.

I do find it pretty good but it feels like it needed more tweaking to be great and a writer that knew what they were doing, because if you put a decent amount of story front and center it should be at least passable.

On a different but related note I had to stop playing it for now because there are two time limited events going on in two different games and while i like the Monster Hunter World stuff enough to keep playing because it feel rewarding every time i do it i dread doing the Warframe one because i know its going to feel like chores because i'm still in the phase where I stop playing so its fun to come back to later instead of work. I really do love Warframe but good god I swear the dev team lucked into 40% of the good things in the game and at least one person is dedicated to making really bad choices.

I have fond memories of blowing up the Doom 2016 thread by saying I wish there was an option to play as a woman. Character wouldn't even have to look any different, you never see the Slayer's face and actual real life armor mashes down boobs to say nothing of suits of powered armor, and all you'd have to change is a few NPCs saying 'she' instead of 'he.'

He’s also not from the ancient race at all, he’s the Doomguy from the other games, the ancient race just found him after he decided to stay behind at the end of Doom 64 and kill demons for centuries.

But yeah, I don’t get how this is such a common complaint as a change from Doom 2016 when all the stuff relating to Argent D’Nur was in Doom 2016. The game starts with you being popped out of a weird coffin!

Well, right at the end of Doom 2016 is when I spent the most time going, "Wait, what? Who? Why?"

But you could fill in the blanks yourself, and it was okay in a "Well, I guess it makes sense there's an entire hidden history I may never know..."

But then Eternal shows up and it feels like fanfiction with OCs and here's what the REAL story is.

Doom 2016 is Mad Max Fury Road: Lore that mainly serves to build atmosphere but it's mostly show, don't tell. You can ignore the codex entries and not feel too confused.

Doom Eternal is the Star Wars Prequel trilogy where everything needs backstories and more powers and a million lightsabers and watch Yoda do backflips I promise it totally doesn't ruin his character guys

To repeat, I like Doom Eternal. But it has some dumb ideas that I wish were left out.

Oh, and I went down to easy mode (which I haven't done in an FPS since probably 10 years old) and I feel shame for that but it finally feels fun instead of stressful to be in combat.

What makes it worse is that for many of them, you get harassed by mooks the whole time and you can't bumble your way into the solution because riddles you've already solved still make 'subject obscured' or 'out of view' messages appear in detective mode even though there's no reason whatsoever you'd want to scan a riddle once it's already solved.
