I'm listening through the audiobook of the first Alex Verus book and so far I'm not a fan of how he's writing women. Luna alternates rapidly between bland, useless, and emotional wreck without any other character traits that I've been able to pick up. Not to mention he calls the feminine air elemental dumb, whereas when describing the masculine lighting elemental the phrasing is "elementals aren't dumb, just limited". I still prefer it to the bullshit in the Mercy books but it's still bothering me. Does that get any better as the series progresses?

Are we certain that the man Harry calls Dad is really his father, biologically speaking? His dad has been established as a good man, and the only picture of his dad and mom together has her already pregnant. There's also the strong possibility that Harry, per a comment from Kincaid, is not wholly human. What if Harry's mom was already pregnant when she met Dad? When Maggie died, he was a good and kind enough man to raise and love Harry as if he were his own.

I've been poking through the feedback copy of Dresden Accelerated and it's good. It's way more accessible and playable than the legacy Dresden Files RPG. It remains a very narrative-focused game while also having a much more structured ruleset. It also as new Fey Knight mantles, the Erlking's Huntmaster and Kringle's Senechal. Kringle's Senechal gets an optional ability where it can borrow Kringle's sleigh. There's also rules for playing a Valkyrie, a full-blooded Fae, and a Red Court Vampire. There's also very fun-looking rules for playing various specialized kinds of mortals like Criminals, Law Enforcement, Supernatural Experts, and others. It's really, really good.

You can opt into abilities that give you access to the sack of toys, Santa's sleigh, illusion magic, the ability to sense failed attempts to summon Santa and show up in a nearly perfect Santa disguise, and a stunt that gives you just a flat bonus to actions committed in the name of strengthening mortal belief in Santa.

I'm gonna go against the flow and advise avoiding the Mercy Thompson series. It definitely never reaches Anita Blake levels of supernatural sex, but the romance arc still majorly ruins the series. The first few books are really promising but the romantic relationship gets into this poorly written sub/dom thing with her boyfriend as the dom, just with every instance of the words "sub" and "dom" replaced with "pack" and "alpha". This gets incredibly bad at the point where Mercy is raped by someone who drugs her with a mind control serum and is dealing with PTSD from it. Her boyfriend cures her of being raped and having PTSD by being ~sooo alpha <3 <3 <3~ and forcing himself on her while they're alone in his house.. That was the fourth or fifth book I think? I noped out hard at that point. See also, the women of the werewolf tribes ALL know Mercy and just hate her because unlike them, she can shapeshift whenever she wants, so she can have babies since she won't kill them by shapeshifting if she doesn't want to.

I've been re-reading the Dresden Files and I've developed a wild theory that I'm 90% sure is true, despite having absolutely no evidence to back it up. I'm pretty sure what two of Mother Winter and Mother Summer's mantles are, potentially their oldest and most powerful. Mother Summer=Eve Mother Winter=Lilith Lilith is relatively obscure but figures into a number of religious mythos, my primary focus is on how she's painted in Jewish tradition. She was the first wife of Adam, banished from the garden for refusing to submit to his authority, and eventually became the mother of every evil and nasty thing that walks the face of the Earth. Compare to Eve, mother of life and humanity. I have no evidence whatsoever but this feels like a very Jim Butcher thing.

Running a Dresden Files Accelerated game and one of my players wants to roll up a Libriomancer. I read the first book but it was some time between the release of Cold Days and Skin Game, so it's been a while. Does anyone remember the basics of the rules behind Libriomancy or have a write-up I can peruse? I really don't want to have to relisten to the whole dang audiobook.

Folks are talking about the series "disappearing without a trace" like he didn't release a short story that ties into the upcoming book literally two days ago, or a short story compilation a few months ago.

Nobody's saying one person or another don't deserve information on where the book is, the issue is that information is the 2nd result on google if you search "where is peace talks", so addressing the author directly on the matter is not a beneficial course of action and only results in added stress on the author. The main point of contention is people lining up and saying Butcher owes them a book, rather than information on the status of the book.

If everybody's talking, incorrectly, about Butcher not working on the book or what have you it's gonna get taken as fact by folks who have the reasonable expectation of accurate info in this thread. Operating on that false information, it's really reasonable to be even more frustrated. All I'm trying to do is clear up misinformation, and I apologize if that came across as a personal attack from me. poo poo's tough out there, I don't want anybody dealing with extra needless frustration from something that's supposed to be exciting and fun.
