Definitely airplane on a treadmill. It will obviously take off, and myth busters even went and did it with a giant treadmill, but there's still people that don't get it. "I could care less" doesn't make any sense. You're trying to say you don't care so you "couldn't" care less. I haven't seen it in a while but arguing over wether or not a situation meets the dictionary definition of ironic.

Egh. This is basically a bitching thread. ^ This is what I hate. When somebody derails the thread by making some metacommentary on the discussion. Like: "This thread is the worst." or "I can't believe we're discussing this. Typical goons." It gets more grating when people then tell that guy to shut up and an argument occurs over the quality of the thread. The worst is in the cinema or TVIV forums when somebody will disrupt a Star Wars thread or something by retorting with "Well.. you just care too much. It's just a movie/tv show! sheesh!" and 'win' the argument that way. Grah. Goons. You aren't a god's gift to the thread by pointing out these things and derailing the discussion. Getting all meta is a job for the mods only.

The end of that derail is always my favorite unless it's a mod saying stop doing it. "I want to have the last word in this argument and so will say my piece despite criticizing others for participating in it." The Schadenfruede thread is a great place for entertaining derails. I remember some one posted a "Ask Abby" where the responder rips into the letter writer. It came with a little note of "Saw this shared on face book with a comment that said 'watch this woman be put in her place'". Cue some goon getting up in a huff about sexism and how the person who shared it was retarded. That goon ended up getting shut up when some one called them out on using an offensive word like retarded. It was beautiful. Also the recent hockey jersey one.

Maybe it's already been mentioned but whenever there's a news story about someone having sex with an underage girl between the age of say fourteen-seventeen someone always ends up calling the guy a pedophile. Eventually someone will "correct" that person and say that he wasn't a pedophile because the girl in question past pubescence. Then that guy is called a pedophile and it just spins out of control from there.

It doesn't happen very much on SA because the mods come down on it pretty hard, but I've seen far too many "It's not pedophilia, it's ephebophilia, thank you" and "lolicon is a morally defensible alternative to child porn" derails elsewhere to think it's a rare occurence.
