i can see what they're trying to do but it doesn't seem like it's any easier than the normal way and i'm dubious of the idea that it gets kids to understand the concept better. it's a good way to add two or three digit numbers together in your head but it doesn't work at all for numbers bigger than that. plus if they're not even teaching the old way and are punishing kids for using it then what the gently caress? are you OK with the idea of kids not being able to add two random numbers without a calculator?
