Granted, every method they teach wasnt one I independently derived but there is a method to it, and it comes up with the same answer as what ever bullshit memorization method you were trying to do in your youth. Yeah pretty much this. Plenty of people who went to the same schools I did are baffled when I can do math in my head. It might be kind of awkward to teach this stuff, but they're trying to show you the steps to work through problems so you don't just say screw it like most adults do.
