The story I've always heard is that towards the end of YYH, Togashi's editor locked him in a hotel room to force scripts out of him or some poo poo like that. Jump gave him the most ridiculous contract of all time to keep him from leaving because he was so popular. He's always guaranteed a spot basically, no matter what he does, because of said contract.

That hotel story sounds insanely apocryphal. I believe that he was under insane stress during Yu Yu Hakusho, enough to make him physically ill, but I doubt they actually physically locked him in a hotel room. As insane as Japan is about work, committing false imprisonment against a manga author is just too unbelievable. If there's actual proof of that, though, it would completely justify his no fucks given attitude with HxH.

Yeah, no kidding; while I too have doubts about that story, if it is true then Togashi's absolutely justified in not giving a gently caress if he meets Jump's schedules. I mean, despite how much I love the series I was already sympathetic towards him, between his family, being ill, and all that, but dang.
