Mods?

I get why you would say that with the 3 engine bombers, but the Re.2005 is probably the best looking piston engined fighter.

Meh, that thing is lame looking. It's just a less sleek looking Ki-61 Tony.

I love me the tri-engines though. And the big bomber/gun platform is so wonky looking. Their planes look like they saw modern planes and tried to apply interwar designs to them.

Here's a more detailed look at what was buffed about AP shells last week.

I can't tell if that's a nerf or a buff. On one hand shrapnel spread seems to become more focused. On the other, maybe this is just focused enough that it increases damage per component hit without making it so tight that your gun is a railgun? I have trouble parsing that.

One thing I did notice was that the thickness of the armor now very much does determine how much spalling you get. Thin armor means it will punch right through and you get 1 big, heavy slug and a tiny bit of shrapnel shooting through. Thick armor means you have an ungodly mess of spall shrapnel and slug fragments making a shotgun of doom.

Most of those nerfs seem to be aimed at the shell spalling, but the armor spalling probably makes up for it.

Yeah it's probably a nerf against lightly armored stuff. I already bring 5 HE rounds whenever I take Brit Tonks out just because removing trucks can be annoying with slugs and MGs. There's gonna be a bit of a weird spot though of lightly armored stuff that has just enough armor to defend against normal HE that AP slugs will just shoot right through and do gently caress-all unless they hit a gun-breach or set the engine on fire.

17-pounders can reliably hull break light vehicles even with AP, last I checked. I was able to do it to an 88 truck at least.

I think any round over 75mm can also cause it. AP (and variants) does it less reliably than APHE but it's there. I know I've hull-broken an 88 truck with the APC round on the Avenger.

Someone needs to get Ensign Expendable to come play the better game instead of WoT. I tried once but he was confused by the lack of HP bars :ohdear:

Relevant because his blog is amazing, particularly the directly translated Russian documents on projects.

armee de l'air would be a cool addition, they had some very promising aircraft in small numbers, esp. in the ground attack/ fast medium bomber roles. and of course the early jet age would give you cool poo poo like the ouragan, magister, vautour, etc.

so sexy. did i mention wing mounted mgs

I usually think of farmans as fugly angular things, but the Nc. 2234 was imo one of the nicer looking heavy bombers of the war(despite/ due to it being designed for other duties)...also the first iirc to successfully bomb Berlin (Jules Verne depicted here doing just that)

From that article's summary of the first raid on Berlin:

quote:

Eventually eight 75 kg bombs were dropped in two runs over what he assumed was a factory complex in the northern parts of the city as Flak started firing and search lights were turned on. A further 80 incendiaries were dropped by hand by Deschamps and Corneillet and two or three clips of machine gun ammunition were spent in an attempt to hit the search lights. Flight engineer Corneillet finished the raid by throwing out his shoes at the capitol of the Third Reich.

the phoney war almost sounds like it was fun (until it wasn't)

also I haven't read it yet but Antoine de Saint-Exupery's Flight to Arras is supposed to be a really excellent memoir about wartime flying in general and the overwhelming situation French pilots found themselves in during the German invasion in particular.

e:ever so slightly more on topic the french liked to put fixed chase guns on some of their planes which I think could lead to some awesomeness/hilarity in game

I just really like twin engine planes

Also as previous poster said most of the fighters they had in service couldn't compete with the 109 at all but there were a few types in the flying prototype/early production series state that were pretty good aircraft. The Germans were impressed enough with Bloch's mb.157 prototype (a super refined/advanced version of the mediocre Mb.152) that they took it back to Germany with them for testing after the armistice.
