I think people really underestimate how such a condition was viewed in most of humanity's history. There is a reason why children were usually killed if they were deformed and those that weren't were viewed as punishment by the god('s) or believed to be daemons (literally). Without his family name he wouldn't even be considered a full human being (and in some way it is interesting that Tywin didn't just kill him directly after his birth, by middle age standards that's extremly humane).
