smackfu posted:So, the new iCloud Photo Library just says "ok, whatever, we'll store your stuff, but it counts against your iCloud quota." Kind of curious where it goes from here. I'm guessing Google might go, "gently caress quotas, have all the space you like so long as files aren't bigger than (X). " The remote storage space is interesting, or at least I find it such since I only have a GDrive and almost never use it. Never signed up for a Dropbox account, either. Is there really a lot of interest in online storage that you're too paranoid to upload and porn to? I mean, at least in the goon demographic, those two probably hog the most space of our hard drives.

smackfu posted:So, the new iCloud Photo Library just says "ok, whatever, we'll store your stuff, but it counts against your iCloud quota." Which is fine unless it counts multiple times. I always had problems with my backups on my iPad and iPhone being huge despite the fact that 75% of the backup size were from the photos that were present on both devices.

Yeah, the only reference to them streaming it is in the original press release announcing WWDC. I can't find a link, but I'm not even clear where it would be. In the WWDC app? On the developer website?

DR1 releases are never consumer ready and usually have huge incompatibilities with anything non-Apple.

Really not a fan of the look for 10.10, and I say that as someone who was quite happy with IOS 7 from the outset. I assume/hope that people will quickly find out ways to restore or alter the look while keeping the functionality.

The Dave posted:Yeah my boss has hit a lot of iOS8 bugs already. Oh well, not his main device. First betas are always pretty crashy, but I kind of like witnessing the refinement process firsthand. I use my phone every day, but I rarely make calls on it, and the timeframe of even the most important texts is never so tight that a crash/respring is going to ruin my life. I just roll with the punches and shrug off the craziness until beta 2 or 3 smooths out the rough edges. Then again, the first beta iOS I ran was iOS 5, and I heard that 3 and 4 were giant clusterfucks beyond anything that's happened since.

I want to punch Jonathan Ive in his stupid smug face. Don't you dare ruin OSX the way MS almost ruined Windows! iOS and OSX is only great because of the hard work of thousands of talented software engineers writing powerful APIs and efficient, robust code. More "gently caress you Googles" from Apple: Safari now gives you more control over your privacy on the web. You can open one Safari window in Private Browsing mode — which doesn’t save your browsing history — while keeping others in regular browsing mode. So while you do your online banking privately in one window, your browsing history is still being saved while you surf in another. You can also now search the web using DuckDuckGo, a search engine that doesn’t track you.
