Not that Kendrys Morales is Babe Ruth reincarnated but it's real puzzling to me the Rangers didn't beat that Twins' offer. Even before Moreland went down they were getting ~.650 OPS out of first base (Moreland) and DH (Michael Choice). It feels like they are throwing in the towel in early June.

Beatnik-Filmstar posted:Don't remember seeing this mentioned at the time, but my periodic morbid curiosity kicked in, and I checked the list of oldest living MLB players. Art Kenney died March 12th, leaving Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr as the sole living player that played in the 1930's. Sorry, but this is incorrect. Ted Williams also played in the 1930's.

It's obligatory apology time:Manny Machado posted:I want to apologize to all my teammates, my coaching staff, the entire Orioles organization, and Oakland and to my fans for the way I acted... That's not the way we play baseball around here. Machado also apologized to Derek Norris in particular; video here. I don't know the guy, so I'm not going to try to judge how sincere he is. You know, as bad as throwing the bat was, I feel like deliberately hitting the catcher with your backswing would be worse, and I really hope Machado is telling the truth when he says that part was an accident.

Everblight posted:I asked over in the Newbie thread, but this thread seems a little more active: Does anyone still teach the Baltimore Chop, or have defenses improved to the point that non-Mike-Lowells don't bother with it anymore? I doubt it just because in the modern, high-scoring game, where even middle infielders hit dingers, you don't really want your players hitting ground balls on purpose. I don't think I've ever seen an (intentional) Baltimore Chop, did Mike Lowell used to do it?

Rosenthal says the Giants may try to trade for a second baseman. Brandon Hicks was looking like a nice find off the scrap heap for a minute, but lately he's turned back into the guy he was in the minors: hits a dinger occasionally but not much else, and he strikes out a ton. Are there any decent 2B who might be available at the deadline? Cause I think the Giants should upgrade if they can.

Greinke pitched 6 innings, I wouldn't exactly call that leaving early, regardless of his pitch count. Probably Don Mattingly felt like playing some matchups.

Turns out that the Texas Rangers scoreboard operator is pretty funny, and cool

Oh sure, Puig disrespects the game with his antics yet again, shows up the pitcher and endangers an ump and a fellow player all at once, but batflips are so cool am I right? Let's face it, the man is a menace.

Hmmm. But wait... Is this just a B.S. rumor to generate pageviews? A leak from the Cubs trying to get other teams to up their offers? Would Kyle Crick + a lesser SP prospect or two even be a competitive package?

All-Star voting ends at midnight on Thursday, and the rosters (including pitchers and bench players) will be announced at the ~Taco Bell All-Star Selection Show~ on Sunday night. The latest updates, from a week ago, are here: NL, AL It's kind of nuts that V-Mart and Encarnacion won't make the AL starting lineup but it's not like Nelson Cruz is undeserving. There's just a bunch of hitters having monster years. Giancarlo Stanton and his .998 OPS is in 4th place, but it won't be a travesty if the starting NL outfield is Cutch/Gomez/Puig. And most of these guys will make it as reserves anyway. Melky Cabrera might start in the ASG and that makes me happy. Plus it would lead to some epic about Rewarding Known PED Cheaters so yeah, rooting for Melky.
