Why then Piper has this ability I have no idea.

The accountant just noticed some vagueness in what was being paid for. Piper (and presumably Caputo, once he knew what he was looking at) would know that an invoice for $2.5M for a new gym or $100K for new plumbing or electrical wiring was fraudulent because the work obviously hadn't been done.

Rosa is fantastic, so glad she went the direction she did. Also glad that Red is back on top, at least in prison, to make up for her shop closing--that part was really sad :(.

You could tell they were having fun with backstories this time around.

Piper is clearly deadweight though, Larry is The Worst, and man... Daya is a dope and I wouldn't mind if she fell off a cliff.

I stopped watching the first episode about ten minutes in. I would honestly LOVE if they continued the show after Piper gets released. I was like 'an ALL Piper and Alex episode? Nope!' But my basic thoughts on season two:

Rosa and the Golden Girls gang were awesome. Taslitz and Freida were fun, and I kind of like the fact that they look down on the younger inmates because their crimes were far more hardcore than, like, holding drugs for their boyfriends. And I liked Rosa's interactions with that kid during chemo. Then again, I've kind of always been a sucker for 'character battles cancer' storylines.

And I thought that (finale) Rosa being the one to actually take out Vee was surprising, since they'd had very little interaction face-to-face, except when they kicked her out of her seat in the caf, and Rosa kept calling her rude when the topic came up.

The Soso character was annoying as poo poo, which, I suppose was kind of the point. I liked Poussey's arc in general, even if it did get a little repetitive toward the end, and the whole (finale)'Poussey, was right all along! We WERE wrong to trust Vee!' turnaroundwas kind of hokey. Bennett and Daya's story still draaaaags, Red still owns bones, and I like that some of the minor characters like the guards and Maria get some fun moments. Janae continues to really do nothing, I liked her hanging around with Yoga Jones from S1, and wish there was more of that this season.

I will probably never stop laughing at O'Neill shouting 'RUN NUNS, RUN!!!!!'

We need more women in STEM, and by that, I mean skateboarding, television, esports, and magic.
Just started episode 10, and goddamn, Vee is a gigantic irredeemable bitch. Who the gently caress screws with someone in the final stages of terminal cancer? If she doesn't get what's coming to her by the season finale, I dunno if I'll end up watching season 3.

Some other quick thoughts:

- Larry's still a douche. At least Piper is usually funny when she's being terrible. Larry's a douche AND boring.

- Vee somehow managed to ruin Taystee's character, too. I feel like the black characters sort of got shafted this season so far. They're getting more screentime, but holy poo poo, just an avalanche of unlikeable characterization. "Black Cindy" loving sucks. Where'd Janae go? Poussey's been great, though.

- Bennett's gone off the rails, holy poo poo. At least something interesting is happening with him and Daya.

- Morello's a complete lunatic and it's awesome.

- This season needs more Sister Ingalls. And Yoga Jones.

- I hope the Hispanic inmates get a little more characterization soon. Seem to fall a little flat as things stand.

- Soso's hilarious.

- I thought the writers were trying to make Caputo into a better guy earlier this season, but that's not really happening anymore. Guess they're deadset on all of the guards and administrators being generally lovely mixed bags. Probably true to life.

And Lushchek (sp?) got pretty funny this season too. I remember him being kind of a witless d-bag in season 1, but he had a few good zingers this season.

E: maybe somebody can help me out here on what's going on with Healy. His motivations just don't seem to make much sense to me. Half the time, he seems like a guy that WANTS to do good, and make a difference, and have people like him, but then it's like it flips a switch into 'gives no fucks' mode. Though I might have missed some nuances due to binge-watching the Hell out of this season.

And I'm re-watching the finale, and it's kind of overly hit me, and feels really hosed up when the guard with Rosa tells Morello that Rosa has only a couple weeks left, then turns on the radio and starts singing along to Breakfast At Tiffany's, since it doesn't affect him. My mom died from the same kind of cancer Rosa has, and I had that sort of experience when telling people she was in hospice. 'Oh that's too bad' (shrug and resume normal routine) . But like I said, I'm a sucker.

My impression is that he leans towards doing the right thing, but is incredibly immature and takes everything personally. If he feels offended by something, he'll immediately go into a reactionary aggression until he realizes what an rear end in a top hat he's being. When he's been an rear end in a top hat, he generally redeems himself later, except when it comes to his weird thing against lesbians.

This wouldn't be the female (lite)equivalent of Oz if they weren't. It was pretty much a running theme in that show that even the staff members who wanted the prison to be better would once in while let their mood swings get the better of them. The inmates being so susceptible to the whims of the staff is always portrayed as a ticking time bomb in these stories.

Healy.. wants to be wanted, I think. What he wants is people to look up to him as their protector and rescuer, when he can't protect or rescue poo poo, but his entire self-esteem is dependent on other people being dependent on him.

As for the Rosa and the Guard thing... I don't know if it was meant to paint the guard as a total rear end in a top hat, or if it was meant more as.. it's horrible news that's basically impossible to process, especially not in casual social situations, so people's tendency is to kind of.. avoid it with some sort of distraction or return to their routine, in order to avoid having to actually deal with it:shrug:

She got put in SHU for contraband when they found the tampon cigs.

Towards the end of the season when they were making their hunger strike demands re:SHU I remember Caputo kind of laughing it off and being like lol you serious that girls in SHU every other month she's coming out soon anyway so no big, but I think we've already gotten the whole feel good Janae getting out of SHU moment in S1 so it's not shocking that they wouldn't revisit and just have her rejoin general pop whenever it's relevant again.

Agreeing that Black Cindy is awful, I also felt like Suzanne felt like a big caricature of herself in S1. She was much more real and subtle last season she just felt like a big goof this time around when she wasn't acting like a goon. Throwing cake? at Piper felt pretty out of character for her too, especially when she was supposed to be feeling bad for beating her up.

I'd imagine it to be a big part of the plot. For Piper, I imagine most of season 3 will be reconciling with Alex in prison. Then I imagine that the drug boss will find a way to get someone on the inside to try and take Alex out, and it will be up to her and Piper to figure out who it is, and then to deal with the would-be assassin.

I don't understand why they needed to include the whole getting Piper's blessing scene. The flaming bag of poo poo was short and sweet, and it was enough to communicate that Piper's feelings about her BFF and ex-fiance getting together, especially since Piper ends up needing help from them later on.

Although I will say: Piper getting calm-angry has fast become one of my favourite things, and that scene was a great example of that.

I really liked how Larry (early episodes S2)tries to weasel his way into the journalist's story with his "Just talk to me, I have some pretty solid sources in the prison system, you know. :smug:" B.S., and the guy just goes directly to Piper anyways.

There are so many contenders for that award, but yeah... such an rear end in a top hat but I love every second of their screen time.

With regards to the Larry situation... In a way I quite like that they juxtapose just how loving dumb and pointless the escapades of the friends and family outside the prison are, especially when Red/Vee were literally trying to kill each other over selling cosmetics inside, but I found the hippy brother and the Australian worse than Larry (who is awful). I truly hope that that's the end of their run on the show, I'm (kind of) glad they did something to confirm the relationship is over, but bringing them back for s3 would just be daft. Let it end there and move on.

I wonder what the reactions of actresses are to say they have a call up for this show... on one hand they know it's got both critical acclaim and good ratings, but it's pretty much even more guaranteed than an HBO call up that they're going to have to do a nude scene.
