Irish Joe posted:I grew up watching Hey Dude and Salute Your Shorts, so far be it for me to throw stones at kids who watch the Boy Meets Girl revival. Yeah, I mean I have tween age nieces and the poo poo they are watching is objectively better than 99% of what I had at their age. On every conceivable level. I wouldn't have the balls to make fun of their stuff.

BSG, 24 to some extent, most definitely Alias, Six Feet Under, Christ even True Blood. And that's off the top of my head.

hope and vaseline posted:Alias's time jump actually happened after the best season of the show, and everything went downhill after the time jump. I would say 3 was mostly great, but yeah. Things went off a cliff a bit after that. I wouldn't blame any of it on the time jump though, which actually did some interesting things.

There is always that period shortly after someone brings up Perfect Strangers where I remember that Family Matters was a spin off show from it, and it blows my mind. Every single time.

Which is to say, "not that much unless you want to actively fool yourself." gently caress that, a lot of the spaceship stuff was just good and the people on the ground actually developed a bit more depth.

Norwegian Rudo posted:How about no stunt work nominations for Strike Back, Banshee or Arrow? That might be the most ridiculous of all. Strike Back sent their dudes to South Africa to train with the SAS, constantly, so they would appear as natural and as fluid with the action scenes as was possible. It also had some really good bang bang. Even when you have dudes like critically beloved Alan Sepinwall saying "This show is better than it has any right to be", it was never going to be a show that awards committees got behind.

The first season of Human Target, aka the good season, had some amazing music by him. Then season two got a new creative team and it all went to generic pop bullshit that further highlighted how good a job he did.

savinhill posted:I think people got mad at Lost cuz the writers always said in interviews that everything was carefully planned from the get go, and it was obvious that the exact opposite was true after all was said and done. To be fair that could a truer statement than people think, but they lost a shitload of people they didn't expect to lose. I mean Mr Eko was expected to have this big role as a counterpoint to Locke that went absolutely nowhere because they lost the actor, so they had to completely flip that around. It's not like they could just recast the role. That, and there were things they tried that just...failed to hit. And any time you get a kid actor in a role that is expected to stretch time so that years pass while the show covers weeks, that is pretty loving stupid. And on and on. So there is every chance they had a tighter plotted story than the one they ended up making.....that just doesn't mean very much to the product we got in the end.

Also half the poo poo you listed is American or partially American shows. So without England....we would have to pay better actors more money to take the place of cheaper English actors. Gasp, shock, what a terrible fate for us!
