I recently started playing Final Fantasy XIV. Like a lot of MMOs you can get mini-pets for your character, and I love the fact that some of them do more than just hang out with you. There's a coeurl (magic leopard) kitten that will jump into the fray and take teeny-tiny swats at enemies. A wolf puppy that will growl at them and a Moogle who will dance along with any other player's moogles that it gets close to. :3:

WoW had a couple that would do cool things too, there was some sort of evil eye type pet that would zap and vaporize any critters (rats, squirrels, etc) that it got close to, and also a spring rabbit that would produce a bunch more baby rabbits if you brought it near another one.

Here's the moogle dance!

Here's a couple more small FFXIV things I'm loving:

1) it has the Best Hat

2) When your character equips earrings you can actually see them on the model. :aaa:

In Final Fantasy XIV:A Realm Reborn you can fish.

Ok you can do that in many MMOs, but what I love in this game is that there are different animations for different types of lures, for example: you do a real basic cast with something like a worm, but you do a proper fly rod cast when using a fly as bait. It's awesome. The animations change depending on the size and quality of the catch too.

You also get a little chair to sit on if you use the emote /sit while fishing. The only way it could be better is if you could /drink a beer while doing it.

You could drink the beer in real life while playing this.

Oh I do.
But, my character deserves one too.

I didn't know XI had some of that as well, never fished in that, or Wow, or pretty much any other game unless they made me.

Dragon's Dogma is the best.

One of the little things I love about it is since you get to create both your character and main pawn, you get two people to play dress up with.

The whole pawn system is really cool. I've never seen anything like it.

For people who don't know, you can get other player's main pawns as followers and when they're outleveled, send them off with a gift (usually just some random junk in my inventory) for the person who made them.

Skulls. Everyone gets skulls. :black101:

The innkeeper or merchant thing was actually true for a lot of players until a patch made a special case for those two NPCs in particular. An NPC likes you a tiny bit more every single time you talk to them, so naturally the innkeeper and weapon store owner tend to have a lot of "affinity" with you by this point in the game since you've been talking to them and skipping through their 2 lines of dialogue nonstop for pretty much the whole game.

So a lot of players with no knowledge that this system even exists (because the game does literally nothing at all to communicate it to you) arrive at the huge climactic fight with the dragon only to be told that the innkeeper is their true love and they must fight the dragon to save him.

Every NPC in the game is pansexual.

If they ever do a sequel and you can't accidentally end up gay married to the innkeeper it just won't be the same.

Wearing silly poo poo in cutscenes is the best. A while back FFXIV added a hat based on the slimes from Dragon Quest and nothing livens up a serious storyline quest like seeing that thing jiggling on your head while NPCs are talking away.

I also like how each Final Fantasy game tries to include Biggs and Wedge as characters. The last time i remember seeing them was in Xii, where they had their names scrambled. Come to think of it, XII could have been amazing if the characters (outside of Fran and Balthier) hadnt sucked so hard.

They're even in FFXIV

i'm glad you all like those little things that make games cool

In Final Fantasy XIV there's a ton of little things I enjoy:
I like the fact that earrings are visible and have physics affect them; as someone who's seen computer graphics come a long long way even silly little, and now commonplace things like that impress me.

I like the way there can be accidental interactions between things; here we see a tonberry viciously murder a fat cat. the tonberry always slices, the cat always rolls over. they line up nicely though!

And I don't usually give a crap about any fan made music videos for MMOs, but FFXIV has some really well made ones that consistently make me happy. Like this one featuring a guy named Mr. Face and set to a song by Psy.

There's a puzzle in a shrine where you have to use the motion controller to navigate a ball that falls from the ceiling through a maze and then onto a platform by rotating the maze itself. After trying and failing it a few times, I realized that I could just flip the entire thing over by doing the same thing with my motion controller - the platform was completely flat on the other side, and I moved the ball over with ease.

On the flipside something that may either be a positive or a negative is that every side quest or Fate (world quests) have a name that's a pun or reference. The one currently most memorable to me is one that spawns a legendary giant crab for you to fight, and it's named Cancer, and the name of the Fate is... "It's Not Lupus."

I love every single FATE name and reference. There's so many

One that made me the happiest was seeing one called What's On Your Mind, where the enemy you have to kill is called Pure Energy.

If you look close you can see that they messed up and wrote Wellcome Leon.

Thankfully, they fixed it for the REmake

Morrowind actually does that if you run around naked. People are like "do you have no decency? Put some drat clothes on" but then conversations otherwise happen normally.

I'm sure I'm messing up the details, but in HZD's dlc Frozen Wilds there's a guy who is collecting holographic records for a barely functional ancient museum and eventually concludes grizzly bear = grizzled bear and it must have been old and weak and maybe the ancients felt sorry for it or something and that's why it's in the collection.
