Triarii posted:The clusterfuck of code that must exist to let something like this happen accidentally just blows my mind. Looking at SS13's code base must be like opening a hoarder's fridge that's had food sitting in there for so many years that the mold growing on it has started to form sentience. The programmer's notes lead me to believe this is in fact the case.

Phy posted:"If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him" is a koan, not meant to be taken literally. Something to do with destroying your external ideas of what it means to be a buddha, so you can strive towards becoming one yourself? I always took it as 'Anyone with a Buddha nature is suffering by definition by remaining here on Earth, and so the merciful thing to do to a Buddha is to release them from their temporal shell.' Probably a poo poo interpretation, though, IANAB.

BioEnchanted posted:The new Zelda basically feels like the original game - a large open world, only vague hints as to where to go, no map (At first) and incredibly difficult enemies, with health/defensive upgrades being few and far between. I also like that, due to the weapons exploding when they break, they do double damage when they break. It takes breaking weapons and turns it from a problem, to a viable mechanic. Switch out a weapon that's in the red, then if your struggling against a tough enemy, switch it back in to crit them real quick. Also, I saw a centaur near Faron Tower, I haven't seen those since the original game Lynels are in the game and they are right bastards.

It's possible, even easy, to not use Peach until you get the Lazy Shell. Hell, I've beaten the game without using her even once (don't do this. The final boss is all but impossible).

If you do I enough, a character will call you on it towards the end of the game, and you can respond by glaring silently at him. He’ll be exasperated but admit that he should have seen that coming. You can also explain that glaring silently is an effective intimidation tactic.

I end up mashing L and trying to slidejump to move faster in other games now, though, which is kinda annoying when it doesn't work. Reminds me of the ancient by now KotoR games. There was a button for flourishing your weapon, complete with sound effects. Instant lightsaber KSHH-whum-whum on command. It served no gameplay purpose whatsoever.

Sandwich Anarchist posted:That is why I have always liked in the way the Dune books handled it, and by extension Morrowind. In Dune, the prophecy was total bullshit that the religious organization of the universe or whatever had planted specifically so that their agents could take advantage of it in the future if need be. And in Morrowind, it's a similar thing where the Empire learns about the prophecy and decides to use it as a way to gain influence and power in a vassal country that doesn't like them. Maybe I misunderstood it but my reading of Dune was that the prophesy was designed as a way for a Bene Gesserit in unfortunate circumstances to get out of them with the help of the true believing locals.
