Well, pretty much the answer is "Nobody". Top, top faces in WWE haven't been booked to make other guys look good in ages, and anybody they do make look good is just so they look good for beating them back down, or have a massive excuse for why they lost. It's not a Cena Thing, it's a WWE Thing.

He lost a handicap match to Axel and Heyman at one PPV, though Heyman was the one that pinned him.

I know a lot of people around here feel like Axel is boring, but MAN they did an awful job with him booking wise. Even pairing him with Heyman hurt him in the long run. Basically, every feud he was involved in after being repackaged wasn't really about HIM.

I think he's fun to watch when he actually gets a chance to do some offence. He just seems really crisp. At least he's kept the Perfect-plex relatively protected by practically never using it.

oh yeah and his music is sweet even tho it took like 7 remixes to get it right. RybAxel rules, too.

I didn't like it at first but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.

Apart from Cole giving him the moniker of "The architect" Seth's the only one who was never really considered the "alpha" of the Shield, so it's entirely possible that he's the weasel-y, in it for himself type. At the same time though, he's dead right about Reigns being more brawn than brains and Ambrose being crazy, so it's totally believable that he actually isn't lying about being the one to bring them together either.

And the whole motivation for him leaving if he really is the leader goes back to the reason Shield first debuted as heels - they were a mercenary group. If Seth was in it for the money of course he's not gonna stick around when the other guys decide they're a family and start letting their conscience dictate their actions.

It's totally the Shield as they've grown having to confront themselves as they were. That's really cool.

What makes a whole lot less sense is Hunter's motivation in this whole thing. Because either he outright admitted defeat by caving and buying out Rollins on Raw, or as he hinted at with his "last night was Plan A" comment, the deal was already agreed upon before Payback and for whatever reason HHH thought it best to have Seth wait on it, kick the poo poo out of Hunter and the rest of Evolution, humiliate them in a clean sweep, and let Batista walk out the door before pulling the trigger on the double cross.

Wait, did Triple H imply that? Because if so that's really loving stupid.

I'm totally ok with this as long as the story is "Triple H couldn't beat Rollins so he bought him." It explains why Rollins would abandon Shield after fighting so hard to save them very recently and gives the Shield a win. If they try and retcon it into saying that Rollins never really cared and has been bought off for awhile then that's stupid and insulting. And makes Ambrose and Reigns look like tools.

HHH's motivation in all this has been the same as it's been since turning heel at SummerSlam: the be on top with all the power and nobody in his way to stop him, being an extraordinary dick when things don't go his way. It's why he and Stephanie refused to strip Bryan for so long: they wanted to humiliate him and have him grovelling and begging at their feet before giving up the championship he fought so long and hard for. He's an rear end in a top hat and most of his actions come out of a desire to be an actual King of Kings, ruler over all he sees.

Also, Plan A was "beat them in a no holds barred match, which is in my wheelhouse since I have a sledgehammer", but when that failed, he broke them up by buying loyalty.

Maybe if I'm part of that mob, I can help steer it in wise directions.
Why do most people seem so sure that Bryan isn't going to be wrestling at MITB? I know he was stripped by Steph and HHH, but since he didn't come out and relinquish the belt, I have a strong feeling he is going to win the MITB match and get the belt once more. Even the language the doctor used in his video was strange from what I recall, "Bryan will be evaluated more in the coming weeks" or something like that.

Rollins SHOULD have run away like a wuss. He's not a monster, he's a manipulative heel. Also it's not like he was cheesing it from Santino, he was running from his two former "brothers" whom he knows are capable of killing people and Ambrose literally promised to disfigure and mangle Rollins earlier in the night. If this was real, and a guy like Ambrose said something like that to you on national TV, would you want to face him? gently caress no.

Also Cena isn't joining The Shield you rubes, it was a one-off six man that was really just the "Ambrose and Reigns feat. John Cena Show" with how it was booked. Why are people complaining about that main? If Cena had gotten the pin or something, I'd get it, but he didn't. It was fine.

I wouldn't have a problem with him running from just them, but he had the entire Wyatt family on his side briefly before Cena showed up. This is the same guy who murdered two men with a chair the week before.

This too. Also goddamn, rewatching it, everything about that first Shield segment was perfect. Everything. Crazy Ambrose flying around like a madman beating up 3MB and GRINNING AS HE DID IT, Reigns spearing Slater out of loving nowhere to huge "Roman Reigns" chants, that Ambrose promo being...well, what it was, Reigns cutting a legit cool promo and possibly the best of his career, the mic drops...it was great.

Also I want Crazy Face Ambrose for at least like, six months. As others have said, it's such a breath of fresh air to have an unhinged face in WWE. It's so much fun.

This part I agree with. Cole being there was the biggest flaw.

In a vacuum they're smart to keep Rollins separate from the Shield and build up the suspense for when they finally get their hands on him. That's the right way to build a story that goes beyond one week.

Its just the usual problem with WWE that nothing they do really works more than a couple of weeks in a row. When every single major heel is a suit wearing coward then they all look like the same joke of a cliche. Its a stagnant WWE writing trope that hurts everyone who gets shoved into it. Even when it makes sense it feels stale and crappy because we've seen it so many drat times with so many drat people so it feels like we know exactly how it will play out.
