net work error posted:In Riley we trust is the Heat motto and it's worked out decently so far. A few free agent signings like a Trevor Ariza and another okayish draft pick and like everyone is saying they're likely back in the ECF. I know everyone's like "hurr hurr LeBron" but I meant in terms of competing for a title. The Cleveland Cavaliers had LeBron too. All that really guarantees you is 50 wins and a first round playoff win. The Heat have almost no players left. At this point, anyone that's not LeBron and Bosh are useless, expendable, or both. They need to add at least 4 new/quality players that can give them legit playoff minutes. Those guys don't grow on trees. Cigar Aficionado fucked around with this message at 05:02 on Jun 17, 2014 |

He was held out a third of the season to rest his knees, and he still broke down by the finals. Can't build around him any more, as he's only going to miss more games and lose more and more of his athleticism, which is what his whole style is based on.

The good news for New York is that Amare and Bargnani are opting in They're only choice is to tank hard next year. They don't have a first round 2014 or 2016 pick. They better make 2015 count. Pray for Jahlil Okafor or something.

Zogo posted:Why'd so many freak out about that Meeks signing? He had a great offensive season last year and should be coming into his prime in the next 3-4 years. Lakers could be even worse next year. He's a 6'4 2 guard with really short arms who can't guard anyone or do anything but score. He'd be a good 6th-7th man; he's certainly not what you'd want in a starting 2 guard. He's not a bad player, but Detroit is overpaying for him, and they have 0 perimeter defense unless they sign another wing who can play D. EDIT: I guess Cartier Martin is being brought in to be their "defensive specialist" (only wing who can play any D at all). Detroit is going to be very bad next year. It really is hilarious how the Love/Mayo trade ended up considering Gendo's apocalyptic vitriol towards it and to Love more specifically. Basically an unofficial toxx for him. Glad Lowry is back with the Raps, nice to see them actually capable of keeping players. Hopefully Lowry doesn't regress off his new fat contract and they maybe even win a playoff series. And goddamn do I love that Primo Bargnani picture.

Lockback posted:I think this Heat team will be better than those teams were. I imagine their team will start old Wade half the time, plus Deng, McRoberts, and Bosh, and then whoever at PG (Cole, Chalmers, Napier). Then you have a broken Danny Granger, maybe Birdman, and two of the aforementioned 6'1 point guards coming off the bench. Without LeBron it will put a lot more pressure on everyone individually, and they have very minimal post presence, 0 if Birdman doesn't re-sign. Washington will probably be better. Toronto could be better. I think the X factor will be Chris Bosh. If he can go back to being a 20-10 guy as opposed to a 6'11 wing, they will be a lot better off.

They are very thin past their starting 5 (I assume they're starting Teague-Korver-Carroll-Millsap-Horford?), one injury could collapse them. Plus they've hovered around .500 the last 4 years. The last time they won 50+ games they had Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson. I guess if they stay healthy and play great they could win 50 games.

Beasley was actually pretty efficient in the few minutes he got with Miami in the regular season, but the fact that he got 0 real minutes in the playoffs while the fossilized remains of Haslem and Battier played tells you about his "maturity". He can get his own shot but he's basically retarded. There's no hope for him.
