zoux posted:I will never not associate Luby's with the Killeen shooting, because that sort of thing was utterly shocking and etched itself in one's mind in 1991 Pretty sure anyone under the age of 30 doesn't even know about it though, at least that's been my experience. And it was literally the deadliest mass shooting in the US for almost 20 years. But yeah, that's exactly what I would think of it. That and mediocre but "unique" dishes that went from mediocre to bad once Pappas took over. zoux posted:https://twitter.com/TexasTribune/status/1268916859677671424 Yeah I kinda wish they wouldn't amend the existing article in-place but instead put an "UPDATE" section on it so I don't have to dig through it to find the new terrible things

There was a post circulating on FB earlier about a peaceful march from Archer Park in downtown McAllen to City Hall. The FB live broadcast ended and it clocked in for about an hour, can be found if you look up KRGV. https://twitter.com/salsapantz/status/1268974918043041805 THIS MOTHERFUCKER right here is why I'll almost always be ashamed of being from here, with his dumb ignorant rear end swinging a live chainsaw at people shouting slurs and how "this is the valley". Why we gotta be so stupid? Why do a lot of Hispanics think if they're less brown than other people it will ingratiate themselves to white racist fucks?

I don't particularly know the details, but I think hispanics don't have the same sort of solidarity as a demographic that african americans tend to, which makes sense considering how there's many hispanics of different national origins that probably don't see themselves as the same. A lot of attempts at broadly appealing to hispanics tend to fall flat because they assume that the demographic is more united than it is. And then there's a whole thing with mexican americans where they carry with them the series of prejudices that they have in Mexico that I don't know much about beyond there being a heavier class divide. No Safe Word posted:Pretty sure anyone under the age of 30 doesn't even know about it though, at least that's been my experience. The purpose of a plan is not to follow it to the letter nor to use any information gathered in the creation of the plan as a basis for good-faith changes to it when the situation evolves. It is to announce that you have one, wave it around from a podium on TV, and then stick it in a drawer while you do I think we had a consultant teach us this once. They catered Freebirds.

How do I convince my dad not to vote for Hegar, he's convinced she has a better chance and he tends to go for what he thinks is safe because of how rare it is for dems to win in Texas. I know neither of them has a chance but still, I really don't want to have to vote for Hegar in the general election.

In fairness to Dan, he explicitly said it would kill more people and we should do it, so as much as I dislike the carpetbagging carnival barker dipshit, he's been consistent on this one. The underlying issue is a pretty realistic one in a human society where people are not going to stay locked down, which is: Now, later, whenever - unless you wait for a vaccine or some more effective treatment on an indefinite timeline, or just get very lucky, n# more people are going to the hospital and to the grave from this when you reopen. Flattening the curve was about not stretching resources too thin to avoid an even more elevated amount of carnage due to an exponential (that word sounds cools, not sure what it means) rise in the number of cases and hospitalizations. Everywhere that had an infection and that has reopened saw a rise in numbers, including China, Germany and South Korea. It's unavoidable unless you stay locked down, which simply isn't feasible given our economic and political systems.
