Even if the last election was a mere 2 points off, she has zero realistic chance. If there's a viable alternative that somehow has a shot at winning the primary, then that might be something, but I have a hard time believing the succdems who live in 21 can be stopped here. Maybe Sema Hernandez for Cornyn's seat?

Chip Roy's not even halfway through his first term and he's already become one of the more aggressively obnoxious members of the House. The lesson he took from studying under Ted Cruz was to double-down on the Ted Cruzyness.

Kathaleen Wall, who dumped over six million dollars of her own money into her failed congressional bid (won by Dan Crenshaw), is running again this time for the tx-22 seat, held by Pete Olson who is retiring. No of course she does not live there. Her 2016 run was a huge embarrassment with multiple videos of her attempting to give speeches and just completely forgetting what she was talking about, sending out giant full color flyers of her holding an AR15 days after a school mass shooting, and just generally being the biggest shithead on the republican primary ballot that I must remind you included Dan Crenshaw. I want to say she spent twice as much as the rest of the candidates combined and only came in third but maybe it was just one time as much as the rest of the candidates combined. She had endorsements from Abbot and a few other bigwig state Rs and she still couldn’t buy the seat she sucked so bad. Piss away another six mill you dumb old goblin.

Since Dan Crenshaw is back in the news - here is my bad opinion about CD2 - if they removed Montrose, it would not be a gerrymandered nightmare. It would be outer ring Houston suburbs and Memorial in Houston, which seems like it has enough in common to warrant common representation. It is only lovely because it dives into the city to disenfranchise wealthy Montrose residents from having a congressional representative that could eventually become powerful backed by those dollars.

The little Montrose grab is what makes it a clear gerrymander to divide and drown out part of the left leaning part of Houston but the general snaking shape from kingwood to memorial is still nonsense. The areas are both white suburbs so they are voting the same but I don’t think they are in any way related that justifies linking them up with some weird land bridge.

Cook Report doesn't list it as a competitive race (it's been 60/40 R/D for the last three cycles), so probably not.

ReindeerF posted:He completely represents Houston's most successful white flight district, which is notable because Houston has been the the most successful major city at annexing the poo poo or of attempts to flee the tax base. Kind of - Houston stopped annexing in the late 70s, and since then has only done 1 full purpose annexation, Kingwood. It was a huge disaster, the residents were furious and got the state leg to make it nearly impossible to do again. Now Houston only does limited purpose annexations of commercial areas for sales tax revenue only. So they don't get the property tax benefit of the suburbs. Sometimes they enter agreements with areas (like the Woodlands) where they promise not to annex them for a period of time for a payment of some sort. Since then, the state leg has made it even more difficult to annex new areas. Absent certain specified conditions, a city needs the majority consent of the annexed population in order to undertake an annexation. Also - as a Houston resident - gently caress annexing a bunch of Republican suburbs into the city.
