Turnout really is poo poo, though. The runoff for Brownsville mayor was last Saturday (with early voting all week), and less than 8,000 people voted out of a city of 181,000 people.

Also, expect shitloads of conservative money to swarm all around San Antonio now. If there's a whiff that SA or Bexar County can go red, there will be enough money to put a plan into action.

The state education commissioner has already granted that waiver.

Some schools will be out for months, and the state is fully aware of this. No district is going to lose money because of hurricane recovery efforts.

Should give us a better idea what the voting landscape looks like in the state

This doesn't make any sense at all. This is one of the districts that was gerrymandered with discriminatory intent and should be redrawn. The primaries for Rep. Shithead's replacement have already occurred, although the GOP runoff between Racist A and Racist B hasn't happened yet. Now Abbott is going to step in and order a special election between June and November for, what purpose exactly? To figure out exactly which racist can fundraise nationally better?

saintonan

So Racist A and Racist B are going to have a runoff on May 22, then presumably they'll both declare for the special election, so they can rehash that fight a month later (comedy option: they hold the special election on the same day as the primary runoff) and then another election in November, all three of which will get national press and money because no matter what Abbott says it'll still be Rep Duckfucker's old district, and he's still trying to dodge repaying his harassment settlement.

I can't wait to hear about how this race will be about fiscal responsibility.

The idea here isn't to somehow do your own triage or not to seek medical assistance entirely, the idea here is to identify and use in-network providers. Go through and make lists of hospitals, clinics, and doctors that are in your network, and don't see anyone else. There are very few times that you won't be conscious or otherwise able to say "hey go here instead of here". From the insurance companies' point of view, ideally patients would use network resources all the time. Now insurance companies are adding more financial incentives to get that to happen more often.

And that's because TxDOT doesn't give a poo poo about what's good for the cities, it just cares about doling out construction money.

It's not TXDOT's job to give a poo poo about the cities, it's the cities' job to give a poo poo about the cities. Focus your anger at the right people. Cities have planning and development services divisions, and it's pretty easy to see which ones are captured by developers. Those cities should be avoided like the plague and allowed to die, but there is no justice. Getting angry at the people on the effect side of the equation instead of the cause side doesn't help much.

At best they're an accessory to racism, and they need to be held accountable to that just as much as the public bigots need to be.
