That Nazi rear end in a top hat (whose name I refuse to learn) is giving his talk at A&M tonight. Some group not associated with the school planned it, so A&M is sanctioning a counter-protest at Kyle Field, to which there's been talks of a Nazi counter-counter-protest.

Lot of cops (and I heard even feds) on campus today, and I'm upset that I have a final review or else I would go to the counter-protest. Despite being a more conservative campus, I'm really glad about how the whole situation is being handled by the administration.

On a related note, A&M has campus carry. So some of those Nazis will probably have guns.

It's only concealed, IIRC it's still a no-no to have it displayed.

I'm probably gonna go check it out after class and see what's up.

I didn't stick around for too long because I'm a baby who has exams to study for, but the turnout outside the stadium and MSC seemed really good, easily a couple thousand if you include however many were in the "Unity Event" proper, most all of whom were very much Not Nazis™.

Glad to see that people are still somewhat sane around here. :shobon:

Yeah, rear end in a top hat was invited by a former student, and (from what I understand) since it's a public university/public forum, A&M can't decline them so long as they pay. That's why the President set up a counter event.

The worst thing about this is Silver Taps is tonight, so this might overshadow a fallen Ag, which really sucks.

Any idea what went on with these guys?

There was at least one fight between two people, and when they were clearing out MSC some people refuse to go, I dunno which led to the arrests, though.

That's an...overly optimistic view of A&M's popularity. Like, it's well-known in Texas of course, but outside of Texas I doubt more than one-in-fifty people could even name it. (Fewer than that if you go outside the SEC.)

Yeah, I'm from Jersey and at most get vague recollections of Manziel and cultish tradition when I tell folks where I go when I'm back home. That recognition might increase this year, but only because of our lovely terrible second half of our football season :argh:

Yeah, I started drinking the Koolaid only about halfway through my first year here, and it's pretty indoctrinating. Traditions on traditions on traditions (and don't get me started on Corps, I feel bad for all my friends who are involved with that). I will admit though, despite all the jokes about Ags and how self important we are, the brainwashing does make it seem way easier to make friends on campus.

Also A&M has been very soft on punishment (if punishing at all) on hate crimes on campus. The only time someone's actually been punished for that poo poo was the big racist story that gained national attention two or three years ago. A ton of my PoC friends have been subjected to discrimination or racial abuse and have had no action taken by the university.
