Lol “medical weed expansion”. This is another example of overblown media coverage to get clicks: the bill permits docs to prescribe cbd oil for neurodegenerative diseases like MS. And since you can just go to the store and buy CBD oil anyways, you might ask “what’s the point” to which I can only shrug

Oh also, just as a trivia and not related to this bill per se: unlike the federal level, where anything the President doesn't sign after ten days is "pocket vetoed", in Texas, the governor has 10 days (or 20 for bills passed in the last two weeks of session) to sign or veto bills. Anything he doesn't outright veto becomes law. That 20 day period is up a week from today I think.

Weird seeing it legal now. In fact it's weird that states are legalizing recreationally one-by-one, I thought that was an outside chance within my lifetime. If you want to see how close we are here in Texas, go watch Birdwell's questioning of Donna Campbell on the Senate floor during presentation of her CBD bill. All gonna depend on what happens in 2020. If 2018 is at all indicative, 2020 is going to be a bloodbath for the GOP. There's a reason very little of that culture war bullshit moved this session, and that's with dudes winning by 3 instead of 20 points. Sticky's in big trouble, he's the only GOP rep returned who got less than 50% in '18

They should just straight up ban non-medical exemptions. I'm sympathetic to religious exemptions but I don't know how you preserve that without opening the door for a bunch of fake claims to dodge vaccines. Like, I think the religious people are wrong but a handful of Christian Scientists skipping vaccinations isn't a public health issue as long as you don't have a poo poo load of wise moms who tapped into generational female historical maternal wisdom through the mysteries of Prana-bindu and the inscrutable Weirding Way of the Bene Gesserit to learn that vaccines are bad. zoux fucked around with this message at 16:33 on Jun 12, 2019 |

I'm not sure it's fair to call Seliger furniture because he was sidelined by Patrick. Put Rodriguez or Menendez or any of the other resist D's who stand up and make principled speeches on the floor but pass nothing. Glad Watson got recognized though, he passes an insane amount of significant legislation every session despite being in the minority (because he knows how to pick his battles and where he has room to work). Fuckin Rodriguez filed a bill to ban anti-abortion laws and got to have a big ol woke presser about it in January but it didn’t even get a hearing.
