Visitor's Centre/Center

The suit shakes Donald's hand firmly and vigorously and way longer than necessary. It's only afterwards that Donald realises he's slipped a business card into his hand. Ugh, Hollywood.

Silian Rail posted:

Jonas Steel
Client/Talent Relationship Manager

He grandly waves away Donald's concern. "Hey now, that's all hush hush. Don't be spoiling the climax on Usenet. And nah, they got out okay before the receiver fell. Got evac-ed to the Metropolitano. I was just, y'know..." Jonas jazzhands extravagantly. "...sexing it up. Rising conflict in the first act, y'know? Of course, you know. Donald Birch, total pro right here."

"Anyway, yeah, I'm just here to make sure everything goes smoothly, make sure the movie magic keeps happening, y'know? After the whole safety issue thing. Lot of money riding on this one. Like always, am I right? Anyway, this ETCD gig sounds like a real jam. Bet you're killing it, renaissance guy like you. There's probably some serious exploitable material in it. You, me and Karate Guy should get some better coffee and talk it out." He places a hand each on Donald and Biffs shoulders and tries to coax them back to the cafeteria.

"I mean how does Donald Birch: The Donald Birch Story Starring Donald Birch not immediately sell? Chops here can be an extra..."

(He's totally stalling you. Beat Deceive at +4).

Under the Dish

(Will resist: Krysmbot> Destrado, +/+-+4 = 5. Eh, call it a win. Hazmat girl now has Hesitation with one invoke.)

While you debate the finer points of comedy and sadomasochism, your hazmat-suited friend freezes in place, squints through her faceplate in confusion at the exchange, and otherwise considers her options with the ominous freeze-ray and slightly less ominous but still uncomfortable overtones of the cracking whip. She hefts the orb behind her back in hesitation and glances back at the receiver array.

____

Message Recieved (Uriel)

The receiver array's pretty banged up, and there's at least a whole 2MB RAM array in this mess, but Uriel's pretty sure he can piece it together with some time and his own freakish brain.

Roll for Datavision, if we're gonna do this.

The Earth Shattering Kaboom (Biff)

Biff's extensive knowledge of things that explode (many deliberately) comes in handy here! Biff's keen ears detect the distinct thump of carbon microstructure within the crackle of expensive equipment exploding. From its vibration frequency and intensity, he'd expect something obviously artificial in construction, ovoid, and about the size...

____

Under the Dish, Again

...of a watermelon, streaking through the air at Jason's head. Yeah, she's legging it. The half second that this gives her is enough to get her past the array and towards the open center of the dish. There's a lot of incoherent mumbling beneath the suit, but you're pretty sure you can recognise the muffled cry of "ABORT, ABORT" anywhere.

Whatcha gonna do? Aside from Jason, who gets to dodge a +3 or get beaned.

WHOMWHOMWHOMWHOMWHOM

Goddammit who calls in a chopper at 2 in the morning.

"You go get that, Sofie!" Rin shouts, even though it's clear that Sofie's not gonna get that. "OKAY WE'RE DOING THIS THE HARD WAY! AAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!"

She punctuates the wild, crazying laughter with an even wilder spray of freeze ray blasts supposedly at at the runner and her legs. It's making a frosted mess out of everything else in the area.

Donald Birch

Rolling Empathy to overcome Deceive. Staticpulse, +/-+ +4 = 5

This guy was smooth, but Donald was smoother. Jonas played the part well, but he needed a few years of acting before he could pull a fast one. Also, Jonas? Who trusts a guy named Jonas right out of the gate? A damned fool, that's who.

"That's nice and all..." Donald removes Jonas' hand from his shoulder. "But, you said something interesting. The men on the recording here... you said they were taken to the Metropolitano? Hospital, right? In that case-" Donald lightly taps Biff on the shoulder. "-I think we should pay them a visit. They got out before the receiver fell, so they should be awake and willing to field questions."

An eyewitness account to the incident would be invaluable indeed. Who said you needed to be a nerd to be good at this job?

Donald gave Jonas a smirk as he pockets the business card. "I'll, ah, take your offer under advisement. Lots of people want to write my story; some already have. But, hey, like you said. Bound to be a lot of money on the official story... and its always about the money. Gotta shop around before talking shop. I'm sure you understand."

"...Oh yeah? Alright, I'm out." Biff waves to the scientists and goes to join Donald. "See you dudes later!"

I thought, What a nice little city, it suits me fine. It suited me fine so I started to change it.

Contract Difficulties (Biff, Donald)

Metzner and Quaid wave politely to Biff, and get back to arguing.

Jonas adjusts his tie. "No, totally, I get you gotta look out for number one. Gotta play all the angles. Jungle out there, etcetera." Jonas seems to be looking around for something. When he hears the chopper in the distance, he takes a hand each from Biff and Donald and shakes them in a rapid alternation. He's probably practiced that.

"Anyway, I uh... gotta go make a conference call. I'll catch you downstream, yeah? We'll do brunch." He promptly steps into the pantry cupboard and closes it behind him.

After a day of constant comings and goings and jurisdictional argy-bargy, no-one's paying much attention to the approaching craft as it moved into view outside the window. But with Jonas not blathering in their faces, Biff and Donald notice something a little off about how this one is catching the moonlight.

Donald gets to act before any poo poo that may be hypothetically about to go down, goes down. Biff might do the same if he can beat Notice at +5. Y'know, hypothetically.

_______

Freeze, Punk (The Dish)

The specimen sails through Sofia's flailing arms, bounces off Jason's head with an audible BOINK, and comes to a stop in the grass nearby. No wait, it's rolling back again. And now it's spinning in slow, erratic circles. Go home specimen, you're drunk.

Jason takes the Mild Consequence First Contact.

Hazmat girl makes it another three steps before an enfilade of scientifically plausible freeze rays sweep past her, one catching her in the leg and sending her crashing to the ground. She turns to make a particularly obscene gesture at Rin before a second ray hits her in the chest, encasing her in ice and preserving it forever.

With the telltale zip of a series of fastrope descents, a half dozen figures in heavy EOD gear drop from the chopper. Their faces are obscured by full visors, their chests are festooned with the latest mail-order tactical gear, but their legs, well...

They chatter amongst each other with a series of hand gestures, most of which seem to involve pointing at Hazmat Girl then knocking their fists on their visors in exasperation. One of them hangs back, pressing some buttons on his forearm. The other five move towards you, palms up and outwards, making no move towards the rifles slung across their backs. They consider you for a moment. Then, seeing nothing but ordinary scientists one of them points towards the specimen (still wobbling around in the dust), then flicks his fingers towards himself in the universally recognised sign for "Gimme". He taps his gun in unnecessary emphasis.

You gonna take that?

Outside the visitors center, Donald can spy more figures in tactical parachute pants moving into position outside the doorway.

How do crimefighting duo Birch and Chops react?

Dr. Sofia Liu

Sofia scrambles across the ground and gloms onto the specimen. She's clearly not about to let go. "It belongs in a properly equipped laboratory! Also I'll laser anyone who tries to take it!"

She produces her laser weapon while still trying to hold the big ball, but the overall effect is about as threatening as someone trying to get out their house keys while their arms are full of groceries.

Shilo

Shilo watches Sofia struggle, walks over and lifts the artifact out of her hands. "Upsy daisy," he grunts as he cradles it in his arms.

Now properly burdened, he tells the... cyber-ninjas? "It belongs in a, well yeah! What she said." He bounces the orb like a caring mother. "We cannot allow this to go unexamined by Tesladyne associates..."

He notes the rifles and hides his face behind the ball.

Rin Sirkku Fuyuyama

"Also, you should probably worry about this woman first!" Rin points at the frozen hazmat block. "She may have full body protection and my freeze rays are SCIENTIFICALLY DESIGNED not to inflict lasting harm to a living subject, but the longer you keep her in ice, the less coherent she might be to give up information about her motives!"

She still has her gun in the air!

"I also concur with my associates that this is a government-sanctioned Tesladyne operation and we have science guns."

Donald Birch
FP: 5 -> 4

"Yeah, yeah, sure. My people will call your people."

His people were so not going to call his people. Curiously, Mr. Hollywood fled through a pantry of all things. The hell was in there, a pole to the bat cave? Curious, Donald went to inspect, but he noticed something out of the corner of his eye.

"The hell...?" That was the shiniest helicopter he ever saw. Curiously, no one else seemed to see it! It stuck out like a sore thumb with all that gold paint. What sort of Saturday cartoon villain owned that thing? To make matters worse, armed men were rappelling out of the copter with even more on their way to the dish... "Aww, poo poo."

Yeah, those guys at the dish were scientists, not armed men with assault rifles. Thinking quickly, Donald went back to the break room and unhooked the rather large and heavy coffee maker, despite the many protests of the over and under caffeinated. With a great heave, he threw the coffee maker at the window. The distinct sound of shattering glass reverberated through the area. Moments later, Donald Birch was hurling himself out the window, doing an impressive front-flip and landing square on his feet behind the soldiers lining up to flank his scientist buddies.

"I don't much like the look of them guns." Donald drew his own dual pistols. "How about you punks put them down before you hurt someone? Unless... yer feelin' lucky..." The distinct sound of two hammers cocking followed his words.

Using Acrobatics to create a DYNAMIC ENTRY! aspect.
Staticpulse: +4: -1 (4dF=0, +, -, -). Going to blow an FP to raise that up to a +5 in total using Donald's 'I do all my own Stunts' aspect.

Jason groans and wobbles, obviously still trying to keep his feet after being beaned in the head by the specimen. As his father would have put it, "just another in a long, long line of disappointments."

Fumbling with his hand in his bag, it closes around the holo-Freddie portable projector. If things keep getting hairy, he can use Freddie's psy-ops programming to remove these guys from the equation and get the team out of there with the orb/bludgeon.
