Kurt Williamson/Simon Marino

Simon stepped into the line. He had his own gun, but it was his service pistol. He had elected not to bring it along, because what kind of security guard shows up with a gun designed to pierce kevlar? He also pondered the security some more. Custom surveillance system. Bob was letting on that it did MORE than a more run of the mill system. Simon made a note to do some research into Portunes Security Ventures when he got back to his apartment.

Cheryl spends the tour at silent attention, taking everything in but asking no questions of her own. Everything seems simple enough, though she is glad she won't have to deal with the elaborate surveillance equipment. As she lines up for her weapon, she hopes this at least will be something simpler than the rest of their equipment.

"Oh yes, thank you!" She says cheerfully, glad that the demonstration of firepower was not needed for now. Marion was not a fan of guns in general, and she was quite happy that she didn't deal with that bullshit right now. Looking around she takes a peek at the weapons, looking them up and down and watching Bob, encase she ever had to go there for some reason. Mostly it was because Marion was curious, and that was a vice she indulged regularly.

Andre

"Got it." Andre says to Mara before she leaves, and nods appropriately as Bob explains the layout of the security room. At every turn, there is a new security camera or motion detector staring Andre in the face and telling him this place was locked up tight. Better to be in here than on the outside, and until poo poo went off, they had a pretty good set up. The couch in that rec room looked pretty comfortable.

Andre steps into the gun line. No stranger to weapons, but at the same time, wasn't about to bring his own to a new job.

Jacob

"I see," he says to Bob as he further explains the security layout. Cameras covering the most important areas and most likely motion sensors amongst the grounds too. With all this, he expects Bob will catch sight of any intruder before they all do.

Heading downstairs again, he steps up to be assigned a firearm with the others, minus Marion. "It's been a while since I held a gun, but I suppose there's hopefully a slim chance of us having to actually use it." He looks to Marion. "I understand the unease of carrying a gun, but I trust you have something else to use instead. A taser perhaps? I'm sure none of us, yourself especially, want you out there empty handed if you should encounter a dangerous intruder."

He chuckles as Aaron mentions possibly having to pick the teams themselves. "I am suddenly having flashbacks to being the last picked in gym class."

Jack removes his pistol from his waistband holster, ejects the magazine into his hand, and clears the chamber before holding it out where Bob can safely grab it. "I'd be much more comfortable using my own pistol, sir. Old Colt .38 Super. It's my competition gun, and I'm far more used to it than any other pistol."

Hopefully his IPSC gun would be acceptable. If not, there's always the (probably clapped out) armoury pistols..

"Oh, I have a Taser at home, I didn't think to bring it." Marion says as Jack extracts the gun from his belt and appears to turn it in, with a bit of a horrified look as she hadn't had any idea what was going on with that. "I- really feel okay with a taser, it might not have the range, but it does what I need it to do if I need too." Marion says, with a bit of apprehension tearing her gaze from the gun that was disassembled in front of her.

Adding with a brief comment on teams, "Really, if anyone will be picked last it will be last it is me. I was on the softball team in high school, lets just say really best to not talk about it. I'm sure we can all be professionals and not take it personally, right?" She looks at everyone with a kind smile.

Security Building

"Pick your own teams. You know each other better then I do." Bob says as he signs out guns.

When he gets to Jack, he says,

"Prepared I see." Bob then inspects Jack's gun. He writes down some notes on the ledger he has in the gun locker. After he's done, he hands the gun back to Jack.

Marion looks into the locker and sees at least a dozen handguns that roughly all look the same and boxes of ammunition.

After everyone is done with the weapons locker, Bob locks it back up and heads back down stairs. He has everyone gather around the main table. Downstairs he places a map on the table.

Map legend posted:

1. Entrance drive way
2. Outer Fence
3. Parking Lot
4. Security Building
5. Administrative Building
6. Inner Fence
7. Warehouse
8. Warehouse Garage
9. Utilities Building
10. Rear gate.

"See the colored regions on the map? Those are all different zones. The green one is the Exterior zone. This is the area outside the fence surrounding everything. This area is cleared of brush, trees and the grass is mowed. There are no lights in this area. It is owned by the Basorus company, but is used as a buffer area. If you happen to spot something in this area, you are to radio it in. If you spot someone and they're within range of communication, then you are to warn them that they are on private property and they should leave immediately. You are not to pursue anyone in this area without my approval.

Inside of the Exterior zone is the outer fence. The Outer fence marks the edge of property to be patrolled. Patrols should remain on the inside of this fence. This fence is seven feet high chain link fence. At intervals around the fence are metal poles with lights on top. At the southern end is the gate for the property. There is a guard house just inside the gate. The gatehouse is manned during the day hours, but at night it is vacant. The assumption is that there should be no visitors to the facility at night. The gate is stronger then the regular fence. The opening and closing of the gate is done in the security building. During the day the gate is always open. At the south end, there's a door to allow access to the south end of the property quickly. This door has a locking mechanism that can only be opened from the inside with the security cards that you have been issued.

If you see an intruder approach the fence, then tell them that they are trespassing on private property and that they should leave. If that doesn't get them to back off, let them know that deadly force is authorized. You should not take any other actions until they make it into the yellow area.

The yellow area is the Outer zone. This is your primary patrolling area. Ten feet inside the outer fence is a dirt/gravel road that circles the entire property. Most of the area in the outer zone is well maintained grass, but there are trees scattered through out the zone. There are several buildings in this area. Besides the security building, there is also the garage and the utilities building. The garage is where basic maintenance is done on the vehicles and where ground maintenance is based. No one should be there during the night and the door should be locked. The third building is the utilities building. All of the properties utilities are routed through there. At night either Mort or Grim should be working. When they're working, they stay in the building making sure there's no problems. Both of them are quiet guys who don't like to be disturbed. If need be they can be reached via radio and if there's a problem they can radio us.

Now if you happen to spot an intruder in this area and this is the first time they've been noticed, then tell them that they are trespassing on private property and they are to desist in their actions. Its up to your discretion whether you tell them that deadly force is authorized. If the intruder stops and surrenders to you then you are to escort them to the front gate. At this point, I'll make the decision as to whether or not to involve the police. If police aren't called, then the intruders should just get a verbal warning and told not to come back. If police are needed, then I'll give you instructions at that point. Usually police aren't needed.

On the other hand, if the intruder disregarded your verbal warning before and they continue to intrude, then you are to apprehend them. Use minimal force when subduing them. If necessary you are allowed to use pepper spray or a taser. Lethal force should not be used to apprehend them. The exception to this is if your own life is in danger. This means that there is a clear and present danger to your life. The trespasser drat well better have a weapon present before you consider drawing your own. I can't give details, but previous security personnel have drawn weapons on unarmed people. The company narrowly avoided a law suit over that incident. I don't want to have to go through that situation again, so be damned careful. After the apprehension of a troublesome intruder. We'll keep the trespasser in custody until such time as we can turn them over to police.

Next we come to the Inner fence. This is the fence that surrounds the warehouse and the administration building. At intervals there are metal lamp posts. Most of the fence is illuminated by these lights. At the northern end of the fence is a gate similar to the one at the outer fence. This gate is open during the day and at night its closed, openable only by the security desk. Any intrusion that gets this far in will be detected and should have been met with a security team. Any intruders approaching this inner fence should be apprehended using non-lethal methods. If an intruder makes it to the fence and attempts to get through the fence and they have been warned, then you are authorized to use lethal force to stop them.

Inside of this fence is the inner zone. No intruder should be allowed to get in this far. Alarms will be going off and I expect the whole team will be taking down the intruder. At this point emergency procedures will be enacted. Hopefully this situation doesn't happen. There's been a couple incidents where intruders got to the inner fence and the emergency procedures came into play, but they were stopped before they got to the warehouse. Since then, new procedures have been implemented to prevent incidents in the future.

Now, while lethal force is discouraged in most circumstances, if an intruder starts shooting or actively commits a violent act against an employee or to one of the buildings, you are allowed to respond in kind. It should be considered that last option though. Any questions?"

The different pistol feels a bit strange on his hip, but Aaron figures it's only for a day. Nothing to worry about. With the look and feel of the facility he'd probably never have to use it, anyway. And he had a feeling that anyone determined enough to get too far into the compound wouldn't be stopped by a bunch of guards with handguns. It'd be a matter of stalling until Bob's nebulous cavalry showed up. And anyone who wasn't that determined would probably give up or bug out without much of a fight.

Downstairs, he spends a very long time staring at the map while listening to Bob's spiel, trying to commit as much of it to memory as he can. "Let me make sure I understand," he says finally. "Verbal warning first. After a warning, if they do not desist, we can inform them of our right to use force. If it escalates, apprehend with minimal force. If they ever reach and attempt to breach the inner fence, or they use force against us, we escalate to lethal force. Do I have that right?"

Silently, he tells himself to keep a friendly eye on the man. Any veteran who likes a drink and casually carries around a firearm will be worth checking on now and then.

Soon gathering around the map, he nods along to Bob's explanation of how to handle intruders. It all seems pretty straight forward, but still he waits on the answer to Aaron's question to make sure he has it right too.

He turns to Marion. "Well then, to avoid ourselves being picked last, perhaps we should start one team with the two of us?"

I also like the focus on non lethal, with all the guns in the mix, I kinda imagined a lot more lethal presence." She said kinda satisfied with what the job was, it didn't seem too stressful at least, and very regimented which was good, that way there were rules for everything. Hopefully, they wouldn't be needed at all, but Marion knew the job was waiting for something to happen.

"I think that would be great Jacob." A friendly smile toward the man, as she leans against her chair looking at the map. "I'll carry the tazer and pepper spray and you carry the gun and handcuffs. We will be a good team!" Marion says trying to be optimistic about the situation, of course, Jacob seemed very straight laced, but we would have to see what happened with him. Marion didn't forget her first impression, even though so far it seemed to be on the surface unwarranted.

At the armory Steve also announced that he had a sidearm of his own but didn't bring it in the first day, and so took a standard issue one for tonight. He made a mental note of the layout of the upper levels in case that becomes important later.

When Bob explained the various areas and their procedures going through each one, it all seemed to make sense and was pretty much in line with what he would expect. Proportional force was an important part of being a private investigator too, a lesson he learned all too well once.

He took his mind to other things and he noticed Marion and Jacob starting the first team and his mind went back to the message in the mirror, and the gum wrapper. Could she be the one that would betray them, and how? That didn't make sense yet, but it did mean he should try to be close by, because she was important to all of this somehow. Don't get me wrong, it's useful that some of us have years of security experience of some type, but perhaps it isn't so vital in deciding who ends up on what team for now. Besides, if there is a matter that requires years of security experience to handle, we'll all be called upon to deal with it anyway, no?

"How about we go with what teams seem to have formed; Marion, Steve, Kurt and myself as one group and Cheryl, Andre, Aaron and yourself, Jack, on the other?" He shrugs with a smile. Leaving the security building there are two identical black humvees. On the front doors, it says "Basorus Security" confirming that these are the vehicles assigned to the security teams. The group begins their walk by going towards the front gate. The parking lot to their left is mostly empty now. They see their own vehicles as well was a couple of other vehicles, most likely belonging to those people still on the property. Most of the day crew seem to have left. The group walks up to the front gate.

Even though the front gate is still open, they can see what the gate positioned behind the outer fence. While the fence is only seven feet tall chain link, the gate seems to be constructed more sturdy. The front of the gate is thin sheet metal, behind the sheet metal are metal bars going from top to bottom with about a foot of space between them. At the top, middle and bottom metal bars have been welded onto the back of the vertical metal bars. The gate looks as though it could withstand being rammed.

A gravel path starts at the edge of the drive way.

Gonna do a quick run down of what the outside looks like and point out the interesting security details.

Warehouse grounds

Walking around the fence allows the group to see the set up of the place. Most of the lights were located around the inner fence, but the light managed to illuminate most of the area inside the outer fence. Anything getting over the outer fence would have a hard time finding shadows to hide in. The grounds had a few trees, but the trees would provide little cover for anyone trying to sneak onto the property. Outside the fence the grass had been mowed and there were no trees within fifty feet of the fence. Beyond the fifty feet, it was a forest. The group kept walking and found that at the back of the property the forest gave way to a swamp. Trees gave way to tall grasses and cattails. Some glimpses of water could be seen peeking through the plant life as well. As seen on the map inside the security building, there is a gate for access to the area beyond the southern fence. Along the way back to the security building, the group also happens to spot several other buildings as marked on the map.

When everyone gets back to the security building, they walk inside and see a man wearing black fatigues and a Basorus T-shirt sitting at the table. He wears his blonde hair cropped close to his head. The man shirt barely fits his large physique. He looks over at the group as they come in.

This was not only going to be an extremely important job, but also an incredibly difficult one. And one fuckup could mean having to babysit someone like a Walter Mondale when he got to phase two. Simon didn't even want to think what effect loving up something this important would have on his phase 3.

By the time he made it back to the security building, Simon was ready to take it out on someone. And then he saw 'John Matrix', wearing a too-small shirt. No way that's his real name, that's an action hero name, Simon thought. He pondered it a little bit further, wait a minute, that's the guy from loving Commando! Simon decided to give 'John' a little bit of poo poo; he would've loved to vent more, but he was a professional, dammit. Simon extended his hand and put on a faux-friendly smile, "Hey, I'm Kurt. Cheryl

"Sir," Cheryl gives a curt nod and does her best to ignore the unprofessional behavior of her new coworkers. Just get through the first shift. One day at a time. She decides to distract herself by going to her locker and taking stock of everything inside, rather than continue to watch the shrink's shameless flirtation.

Jacob

As they walk the grounds, he keeps silent but observes everything they pass by. The humvees look like they'll make the job a lot easier, even if he feels he might stay more awake and alert if he were walking most of the time. Still, if an intruder does get onto the grounds, he'll be grateful for their advantage in mobility. The swamp doesn't make for such a pleasant sight, but he supposes it at least offers one less likely way intruders might approach from.

Back in the security building, he's surprised to find this mountain of a man waiting for them. However, given how impressive the man looks physically, he can't say he's really surprised to learn the man has a name straight out of an action movie.

"Nice to meet you as well, Mr. Matrix." An almost humorous last name, to be sure. But he's hardly going to say as much to owner, given that John's biceps seem larger than watermelons. "I take it your team has left already?" Although, looking at the man, it won't be too shocking to learn Mr. Matrix handles all day time security matters single-handedly. "We did not see them during our walk just now,"

"I had my team take off. Figured Bob's team was on the clock, so my team didn't have to stick around. Yeah, we're just leaving when you get here." He looks at Kurt and smirks.

"Schwarzenegger? Never heard of him. He some kind of an actor or something?"

He then answers Steve's question.

"The day shift? I imagine its like the night shift, except we deal with more people. Occasionally we'll have an incident, but not much. The day shift doesn't talk much with the night shift. One is leaving while the other is clocking in, so we don't have much time to have a rivalry. Might be some resentment from the night shift, since we work normal hours and the night shift doesn't. The day shift has been working together for a few years. I don't know what it is with the night shift, but those people don't seem to stay in the job too long. And if you're wondering, I don't know why that is. Bob seems like an O.K. boss and the job itself doesn't seem too hard or dangerous. Hope you folks decide to stick around for a while." As he says that last line, his eyes linger on Marion.

John gets up from the table and walks to the door. He looks back to Aaron.

"If you ask me, I think the company is a little too paranoid about its security. A lot of worry over nothing. The few incidents that have occurred were the fault of the security personnel they hired. Those people are gone now. The company probably knew exactly what they were doing when they hired you all."

Steven notices a small piece of paper on the floor. Without thinking he picks it up.
