I don't really like TJ's riding style. He tends to just grind away rather than attack like Contador. However, I do like to support the US :911: so I have been hoping to see him place in the top three.

I just noticed the Vuelta starts with my favorite event, the team time trial :getin:, then I noticed it ends with an ITT. Seems like a buzz kill off a way to end a grand tour to me. At least compared to the crit at the end of the Tour de France. Is this normal?

It depends on which sub-race you are following. In the TdF, the penultimate day was an ITT that saw movement in the general classifcation (GC) ranking with 2nd and 3rd, and 5th and 6th switching places. I think ITTs are a great chance to see individual riders prove their ability. However, I understand that not all people find them entertaining.

And Tony Martin :swoon:

Merckx was pre EPO/blood bags right? Mostly stimulants and stuff. While still a boost, the improvement over natural baseline must have been more limited than blood doping for instance.

Even though doping is doping and such I feel somehow this is/was a different kind of doping than say Lance.

It was still the best technology for cheating at the time.

I agree that the course seemed a little short, and lacked the punchy climbs of previous years. However, I think the weather always played a big role in keeping the peloton together for nearly the entire race. Regardless, I am happy that Kwiatkowski
won -- the move he made was perfectly executed.

Nice positioning! I don't see Farrar in that shot, so didn't manage to get all of the badasses in one frame. We were in Richmond last weekend for the TTT. If anyone is interested, here are some pictures of the TTT from last weekend. The first half of the album is from the training on Saturday, and then the pictures from the race are at the end.

One cycling podcast theorized that practicing on the track helped with the decision making process and timing of the attack.

The bit up to Chalet Reynard is the hardest part of the climb in terms of gradient - it's about 10% for 8km. Should still be spectacular! If anything knowing there's a windy 6km after that would make everyone ride more conservatively, so it could end up being more exciting. Maybe.

I agree with this. I have ridden it a few times, and always feel relieved upon passing the Chalet.
