of all the rappers I’ve seen I might say Dizzee Rascal was the best live performer.

he's really good! i missed his boy in da corner anniversary tour which i will always regret, but i caught him on a festival in 2017, between brockhampton and anderson paak, and he held his own way fuckin better than i had expected

yeah dizzee is so loving sick live. he's got some absolute bangers that just sound impossibly good live. actually went to his boy in da corner tour in london which must have been in 04 or there abouts. dude is monumentally talented and the dude still drops hits when he jumps on tracks.

Very whiteboy question here, but is there any special rules at a rap concert? My only live show experience is metal/rock shows and there's things like "help somebody up if they fall down in the mosh pit".

I'm going to try and hit up some shows in Atlanta or Charlotte later on this year if COVID settles down.

First off, don't be a weird white dude. It's live music, you know how it goes. Depending on the artist there could be a pit. The rules are the same but the kids might not know that. The only other rule is to make sure you throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care when it's your turn.

Jay Z giving the most phoned in old man performance imaginable when he toured with Justin Timberlake.

Oh really? That sucks. I've seen Jay a few times and they were all great. Worst was in pissing rain at a festival, but was still ok and I got in for free.

First gig was Beastie Boys in 98 (proud of that one, could have been some awful poo poo, although technically it was loving Cornershop as they were first on at an all day thing), best probably Watch The Throne and last before lockdown was Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock.

you guys ever have a name you can never remember no matter how many times you see it? WHat is the name of the rapper who has the album cover with the tiger in an apartment and a swat guy outside. I can't find it in my spotify or by googling. It's not an obscure album or anything a bunch of people had it as their AOTY here.

I only saw him once, playing right before Stevie Wonder at a festival, and yeah he put on a great live show. This was over a decade ago though.

I was listening to the new DJ Khaled album and it felt like a waste of so many artists. I don’t know if it was just my car’s sound system or what but I could barely hear the artists over the beats. Which led me to realize that he’s not a great producer and I went back to the superior album of Metro Boomin

Pretty sure my first rap show was Run DMC on the Vanderbilt U campus in 1999. They killed it, still the best bass I've heard/felt outdoors, and I didn't realize at the time how glad I would soon be that I saw JMJ.

This is basically every Khaled album ever made tbh. They always just feel like collections of loosie verses/ features that Khaled got on the cheap.

Also he’s more of a producer in the film/tv sense in that he wrangles the talent together, I don’t think he does much of the beat making on his albums. If you look at the credits lists, you’ll always see the names of more known producers.

gently caress that’s a cool stage setup that’s like Kanye on SNL tier making use of the space you have

I always wondered why Dizzee Rascal never blew up here when I first started listening to rap and over time I figured out why the sound in London was so different and how hard it was to cross over but man he’s got so many bangers. I think Bonkers is the loudest song I’ve ever heard, the way it’s mixed sounds like it’s the blitz happening in the middle of a club

edit: also here is a bit of Flylo’s score for Yasuke, featuring Denzel Curry
