Not sure if it was mentioned but the new Armand Hammer EP (Billy Woods and Elucid) dropped last week. Race Music was one of the best rap albums from last year and Billy Woods is seriously the poo poo, so check it out.

I mentioned it. I actually think some of the beats on it are better than the Armand Hammer LP. People complaining that there's no angry, political rap these days need to listen to some Billy Woods. His subject matter is not close to Public Enemy's, but it's still highly political, just in a more subdued, abstract manner.

I agree, but often I'm distracted from his lyrics because I'm in love with the production. My tastes are usually in the metal and heavy rock arena, so that brutal, grimy, sort of claustrophobic style of beat that he seems to favor sounds great to me.

10 - Mean That poo poo is the same beat (song?) as Spare Dat Bitch from Trap House 3. I know Gucci is kind of famous for using songs on several mixtapes but not usually a year apart

You try keeping track of beats when you're releasing 250 tapes a year.

Forgotten song by J. Dilla

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPOKZNLhOj8

quote:

Ma Dukes
That song was totally true. He caught so much flack from the police for being a clean young man. The police department was down the street from where we lived, and every time he pulled off theyd stop him and harass him. They even tossed the car once looking for something. Because he was young and clean-cut, they thought he was selling drugs. Proof was at the house one evening when James had another run-in with them. He had only gone to the gas station which was three doors away. I told him not to get upset because he was hurt to tears. He was so angry and just tired of being harassed, so I told him, Look, this is what you do: you go downstairs and make a song about it, and you laugh in their face. And thats when he came up with the "F" the Police thing. And people are still singing it today! Every time I go somewhere, thats one of the songs they play.

Shredded Hen

Just got around to listening to Gucci vs Guwop. Never ceases to amaze me that he still has well-produced bangers on deck...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6QLysq6iLQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRVKidycRQs

Does anyone know roughly what their methodology for producing pre-recorded verses is? Does the producer start with pre-recorded vocal tracks and then create a beat around them (I assume so in the case of, eg, Young Chop but are they all like this)?

Quantum of Phallus
Dec 27, 2010

Yeah I think he's got a few engineers and beatmakers and they're going through the vocal tracks, chopping hooks and choruses up and putting them together.

quote:

French Montana is currently preparing his sophomore album, Mac & Cheese, and in a new interview with Billboard, he's explained what we can expect from the new record. According to French, he's very much taking the direction of the album into his own hands this time around.

The rapper revealed two songs that will make the cut of the record, including a song with Miguel, and a crew track with Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, cryptically titled "Gucci Mane". It seems that the song will be using the currently incarcerated GuWop as a punchline for "going crazy", with lines like "Im about to lose it, man/Im about to go Gucci Mane". The comparison is likely a reference to Gucci's infamous (and allegedly drug-induced) Twitter meltdown last year. Harry Fraud, who is executive-producing the album alongside Kanye West, feels the song may "make people nervous."

Lmao they don't want it with big guwop.

Harry Fraud and Kanye producing tho. What a waste. Hopefully they can carry the album. Montana!

Edit: with that said I'm gonna go listen to the Don Francisco remix

don't know if it was discussed here yet but i'm loving king louie's newish mixtape tony. i think it's a lot more focused and mature than his other mixtapes and it's probably his best one so far. i'm glad because while i liked drilluminati 2 it was kind of scattered and bad at times.

Already Platinum is good but really commercial and Neptunes sounding as opposed to really Houston sounding. Boss of All Bosses is an awesome album. Someone else can help you with mixtapes because I don't really know anything about that to be honest.
