You crazy. early 2000's rap was fun as poo poo and even the radio/club music was wayyyy more enjoyable than anything from today. That's also when the south got hot and changed the game.

The South been hot. The only thing that really popped was Cash Money and Crunk.

Luda, Tip, Nelly, Twista, Kanye, camron and the dips even more that got even better like UGK and 36. It was way more out than just crunk and Cash Money then. Late 90's/ early 2000's was the poo poo.

Sorry, I disagree. Luda and Tip, yes. Cam'ron was around before his album came out and Dipset does not compare to other groups.....come on son.

Does an artist have to have put out their first album during that time period to qualify or something? Cause lots of jay-z best stuff came out in the early 00s. Some of it was produced by someone called kanye who later emerged as a rapper himself.

Also, Eminem, dr dre's last album, stankonia (not my fave kast but still a great), busta rhymes best period, all the non-crunk southern artists already mentioned, big pun, no limit (kinda meh but still), 50/g-unit (that counts as early 00s right?).

Seems a person's fave rap era probably depends a lot on what era they got really into rap. For me, it was late 90s/early 00s.

Edit: even puffy had a good album in the late 90s

I can't really recommend specific tracks that give you an idea of his style because Quik's style changes so much from song to song.

Here are a few videos to start with, but for real, all of his albums are good. Especially his first four.

Rhythm-al-ism (1998)
and the album he did with Kurupt, Blaqkout was also really good.

This dude was on the Tonight Show last night. Apparently it's blowing up because of some dance associated with it. I just paid attention to it because the beat was hot as gently caress (I read that it was taken from a Lloyd Banks song) and that synth makes it sound like it belongs on a Metroid soundtrack or some poo poo.

e: Wait, I was talking about this track:

Yeah that's a top 5 Doom beat to me. It's a Bobby McFerrin sample, of all things. I actually had checked the original song but that snippet is only like the first few seconds then it changes a lot.

I think there is more than 3 hours of Special Herbs sets, I have quite a few of them and they are all like 20 tracks. I think it comes to like 7 or so hours of beats. And every one of them is amazing.

DOOM is a god who deserves way more attention.

e; RZA used one of his beats called Sasparilla to make You Can't Stop Me Now. I spent like a day wondering where the gently caress I had heard it before realising what it was.

Also, I noticed that DOOM never gets any credit for these beats anywhere in the production or anything like that. So, are these guys just stealing his beats wholesale or are they paying dues somewhere else cause it sounds like they are getting famous off someone elses works. For example, Soul doesn't seem to credit him anywhere.

Loads and loads. DOOM used Lemon Grass himself as King Geedorah on Krazy World, Myrtle Leaf's on the same Geedorah album too but I forget which track (still an instrumental on there tho, if memory serves). There are others from the set on there too (Sarsaparilla, Untitled Meditation). Joey Bada$$ used Pennyroyal and Datura Stramonium on 1999. Ghostface's Fishscale has a whole bunch too (Four Thieves Vinegar, Orange Blossoms, Fenugreek, Sumac Berries among them).
