I disagree that it's an artist's job, first and foremost, to make things to be enjoyed by an audience. If that was truly the case, no one would be willing to take the risks necessary to push any particular genre forward, without which that genre would die. What compels them to do so, is an innate belief that they have tread new territory in a substantial way, however small. It's only in retrospect that the risks taken are seen as teleological, adhering to the general tastes, etc. With that in mind, Drake's sin here isn't not extolling the virtues of maintaining your mortgage payments in a loveless marriage or whatever, as the very nature of his extraordinary success isolates him from the everyday people who listen to his music. At very least, he maybe shouldn't wear highly indentifiable neon blue clothes with his logo on it on his second floor balcony for a picture for insta if since he has neighbors so nearby they can film him on any cellphone. Like, he allegedly made 20 million while in jail. Maybe he shouldn't do house arrest in a densely packed sub-development if he can't keep a low profile otherwise.
