So the track that had me go woah was Itz Crackin’. I’d been listening to it via its YouTube video and then remembered oh yeah “bang the mixtape.” So I grabbed it from DatPiff and the DJ intro is one of those things where it’s not really subtext, but it depends on if you care or not. https://youtu.be/Z-yJWBTCObM DJ Hustlenomics says he’s (Hustlenomics) 17 in the mixtape, Keef is 15, and that intro is calling out gang poo poo at school. I get it, it’s gang poo poo. But that blatant, towards like 14-17 year olds. It’s darkly funny in some ways, but it’s also sad. Like, I’ve been telling my GF that at 15 I still hasn’t been kissed. And Keef is talking about loving gals, and frankly I’m sure it wasn’t talk by that point as someone on the come up. His kid was born around this time, because she’s called out in Back from the Dead. https://youtu.be/FNZUvOdGVEI Get It Jumping gets me insanely hyped. The bars “them bullets get to touching/them veins get to bussing/cause bullets come like a dozen/and they burn like an oven” do something to me. I know better but they get me going. And yet again, it’s like “he’s 15” and it’s just crazy. Claiming BD throughout the tape. I dunno. It’s real. It’s his life. It makes me have to reconcile my comfort and my upbringing. Certainly makes me grateful to not have the problems of his and his cohorts, at that age or ever. It could have gone south 8 million ways for him, and I’m sorry he and everyone else have to deal with the endless violence and fallout from gang poo poo and drill poo poo. But also the conditions that put them in those positions in the first place. I also really have appreciation for the relative honesty in Keef’s music. His album after Fredo’s passing has a few bars but idk, impactful to me. There’s the classic bravado, noise:hits ratio for new songs, etc. but I think he does try to make a good product that’s from him and not just the hot style or writer or producer. Anyway, i think Keef is a real artist at times and has an interesting evolution.
