poor wording on my part because i guess most of it isnt specifically about the breakup but the ramifications of it inform most of the album. like him turning to self destructive behavior and self flagellation because of it.

but yea there are plenty of songs on his earlier mixtapes where his flow is more than just autotune warbles

theres been a lane for kids to get famous off catchy songs with corresponding dances for like a decade plus now??? kids go nuts for that stuff and rap is still a youth culture movement. i dont know whats hard to figure out about this

I'm excited about this Fetty Wap album but drat why is every single rap album (and commercial mixtape) this year like 50-80 minutes long

say what you will about Yeezus, at least that album was tight enough to fit on a single record

idk i'm living for it, its hard to get upset - i cant imagine there being another year as good as this one in terms of diversity and ambition coming for a long while. and theres still two months left

also the earl record is only half an hour long and is pretty good and concise imo

A few years ago they were kinda starting to bubble up but kinda fell off and quit releasing stuff for awhile. May wanna check their album from this year, it's solid if you get down with that sound. And for sure get 808's & Dark Grapes II, album's just great from front to back.

i think they fell off because one of them got seriously addicted to lean and the guy who was managing them around 2011/2012 dipped after that happened. or at least that was the rumor. that manager is also the reason why theyre on jam city's classical curves lol

but yeah pretty much all their stuff is great. 808s 3 was a little underwhelming imo but friendzone are great producers.

i liek future and thug and i really dont care that you think theyre middling but i really really dont care that either of them might not make "a classic" because 1 its 2015 2 eventual hagiography is a really unsound and reductive way to qualify music

Radio Spiricom
Aug 17, 2009

thathonkey posted:

for the record i don't think they're middling i just don't think they can stand on their own as artists and make a solid album, classic or otherwise. nice big words there in the second part of your little post but im not going to argue with you over whether or not there are classic albums that arent hagiographic. wtf is your point abotu it being 2015 anyway?

fair enough, but i just dont think that in 2015 using classic or even solid album releases is the measuring stick to evaluate artists by, songs are more than enough. lots of artists dont make music for the album anymore and i know that i (and certainly lots of others) dont consume music through the album anymore. its an outdated and rather strict method of production/consumption. i usually just stick everything i want to listen to on a playlist before leaving the house and hit shuffle.
