This. But I also don't think it's too much to let a rape/incest/~~murder~~/war victim know what they're getting into. You know, groups that are actually deserving of genuine understanding and sympathy. I don't know if this whole "trigger warning" means something different to Tumblrkin than I'm used to, but I don't think it's an inherently bad thing if it's "there is a graphic or otherwise unsettling depiction of a thing that is widely known for being traumatic in this piece of media, be advised".

I mean I'm none of those things and I actively try and avoid most of that sensational media, but that's just me, and I'm not going to try and generalize. Maybe books really suck some people in but they can watch the news just fine; for some people it could be the other way around.

Putting useful trigger warnings in classes or stuff isn't hurting Joe Schmo who wasn't bad-touched by his uncle or survived his convoy getting blown up in the Iraq War, and maybe they're superfluous for the majority of people who do have deeply troubling traumas. They're not there for them, they're there for the people who do need them, and those people exist (source: I have seen them and interacted with them). Most of those people are functioning human beings (though for some of them that is a term to be used loosely, and for a few not at all), but they have their weaknesses.

Maybe it pisses of Bob Goon who thinks SJWs are ruining his country and his forums, but nobody cares what Bob Goon thinks and he could go get hosed before tumblr was even a thing.

You make a fair point in that you are denying a certain degree of agency when you decide to outsource a person's own wellbeing, and I'm really tired so I'm not in much of a position to argue. I will say that I think there's a line between someone being able to relate their own molestation experience to that of a book and that bringing up some past psychological trauma and just really objecting to a guy in 'Nam filling a baby water buffalo up with lead (having read that book in in both high school and college, I can say that while it did produce :smith:

faces, nobody was "triggered") because ~~you sexually identify with the buffalo~~ reasons. We seem to be talking about two different phenomena is what I'm getting.

I may also be overstating the anti-SJW sentiment but it's still occasionally a (dumb) reason people get riled up about tumblr, even if it's not quite the same reason my grandad wonders why he can't call the president a Kenyan Muslim socialist/communist who is trying to destroy America.
