Running since October of 2012, The Thousand Thrones is sitting at 34 pages and we've recently bled out on two more characters (possibly three.) So far the adventure has been running from Marienburg almost to Altdorf, with the players initially pursuing a rogue wizard before becoming embroiled in a plot to control a boy who may or may not be Sigmar reborn, and who has a special power to sway others to his side. So far, they have faced mutants, brigands, and even TWO vampires. Right now, your teammates will be a Sigmarite priest, a pair of dwarves who love to tell tales and entertain, a Kislevian woman with control over ice magic, a Middenheim bounty hunter who found his true calling in hunting vampires, and a, uh.. Halfling vampire, who is giving said vampire hunter pointers. We are currently replacing two, possibly three characters: a knight, a wizard, and a doctor. I'm going to need a few things from you to be considered for the game. First, I need you to decide if you want to go what the players have dubbed MAN MODE where I roll you one race and one class and you're stuck with it. No other choices, just in and done; for it, you get an extra free advance and you will automatically have the equipment to advance to your second chosen career. Otherwise, I will roll you two races and three classes, giving you a total of six options; you will have to spend your own gold to get the trappings for the next career, but you should still be able to get it fairly easily. Regardless of the mode, you will spend 1200 XP to bring your character up to line, and explain some of your backstory, particularly how and why you got involved in the Crusade of the Child. You'll either meet up with them inside the crusade as someone that's already been there, or arrive as the crusade is on the march. I'm looking to have two of the players replaced by Monday, July 21st. I will be out of town this upcoming weekend for my wedding anniversary but afterwards I will make my picks. So get ready to fight some Nurglites and maybe some vampires and who knows what else. Here is the link to the game thread. John Dyne fucked around with this message at 19:18 on Jul 13, 2014 |

Alonso Guzman is a man on hard times. Having come to the Empire to make a name for himself as a fighter and teacher of the science of fencing, he found that few men in the Empire saw battle the way it was in Estalia. Back home, every move is named, motions are categorized, attacks and defenses defined. In the Empire, however? Many men just strike their enemy and call it science if they survive the encounter. Having traveled from city to city, hoping to find a lucrative position, Alonso finds himself on the last dregs of his inheritance. Hearing about this Child's Crusade, he takes it as some divine providence -- he will attend it, show the bumpkins how fighting is *truly* done, and be showered with gold and favors for the rest of his life. Truly, his fantasy life is constructed with meticulous detail. pre:Name: Alonso Guzman Player: Friar John Race: Human XP: 0 Career: Estalian Diestro -> Duellist Physical Characteristics -------------------------- Height: 5'5" Weight: 155 lbs. Also, as a note, I am NOT making you guys spend 100 XP to move from your current career to a career exit on your sheet; I think it's a fairly dumb mechanic so that's my little house rule on it. If you wanna move to another starting career, then yeah, you spend the XP, but once your profile is filled and you have the trappings of your new career, you can assume that you are now THAT career and start spending XP in it.

Thalandril, Night Owl The Witch Hunter's cadre had all but disappeared. After leaving the group to attend to the Lotus House on their own, Thalandril had returned to the Mermaid to wait for them...but they never arrived. Worried, the warden took it upon himself to find his erstwhile motley of companions but a thorough investigation came up with nothing but rumors and hearsay. The young elf was near giving up and about to return to the river lands when a stranger approached him at the tavern. "Buy you an ale, friend?" the man said--a plane-looking human in his middle years with a slight paunch and a bald spot forming on his crown. Thalandril regarded him suspiciously, but pushed his empty mug forward and nodded. "What do I owe the kindness?" The man shrugged and flagged down the barman. "Two ales. Dark. Seems you and I have a mutual friend. Two, as a matter of fact. I spoke to one of them recently and they told me about what you've done." Thalandril took his mug and sniffed it before taking a long drink. He let the silence settle between the two men, clearly waiting for the stranger to go on, which he seemed to be taking his time in doing. After the two whet the pallet the man cleared his throat and spoke again, this time more quietly. "The Abbess came to me the other morning. She sends her wishes." The elf nodded placidly, but his hand was sinking towards his pistol below the bar. "No need for that," the man reassured him, unperturbed. "I mean the real Abbess of Shallya. Not that mad bitch who usurped her." Thalandril smirked and took ease, but left his hand on the pommel of his pistol grip. "You don't have a very high opinion of her, I gather." "I don't deal in opinions, master elf. I deal in facts." "Surely. So, what wishes did the Abbess have for me?" "Only the best. She mentioned your skills in particular though, and the fervor with which you employed them. Tell me: have you heard of Verena?" "Some. Goddess of reason or what have you. I'm no priest though. What about it?" The plane man smiled and swilled back his drink until it was nearly gone. "Neither am I, but I serve her all the same. And so do you, as a matter of course. You're a man concerned with justice and law. So am I, and I'm here to extend you an offer. I'd like you to work with me. I'll teach you how to make to to the heart of any matter and root out that what needs finding. Our other mutual friend, Master Roderick, will need a skilled investigator in the future." Thalandril finished his mug and wish the last gulp around his mouth while he though. He certainly didn't want to give up on his companions yet, and this man seemed to be willing to help him reach his goal of getting to the bottom of this Sigmar child. What reason was there to say no? "Alright," he said with a nod, placing his mug down for another round. "When we're done will you take me to Roderick's cadre?" The man just gave a throaty chuckle. "My boy, when I'm done you'll be able to find them half way around the Empire with nothing but a footprint and a rumor..." pre:Name: Thalandril Player: ilootthecorpse Race: Elf XP: 1200 Career: River Warden -> Verenean Investigator Character Profile -------------------- Primary : | WS | BS | S | T | AG | INT | WP | FEL | Starting : | 38 | 44 | 36 | 32 | 48 | 31 | 31 | 35 | Talent : | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | 5 | -- | Advance : | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 20 | 30 | 20 | 20 | Taken : | -- | 10 | 10 | 5 | 10 | 10 | 5 | -- | Current : | 38 | 54 | 46 | 37 | 58 | 41 | 41 | 35 | Secondary : | A | W | SB | TB | M | MAG | IP | FP | Starting : | 1 | 12 | 3 | 3 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 1 | Talent : | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | Advance : | 1 | 5 | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | Taken : | 1 | 2 | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | -- | Current : | 2 | 14 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 1 | Skills: Common Knowledge (Elves, The Empire) Gossip Navigation Outdoor Survival Perception Pick Lock Row Search Secret Signs (Scout) Speak Language (Eltharin, Reikspiel) Talents: Coolheaded - +5 WP Excellent Vision - +10 on perception tests involving sight or lip reading Night Vision - See up to 30 yards by starlight Orientation - Always know which direction is north, +10 to navigation tests Speacialist Weapon Group - Gunpowder, Longbow Trappings: Common Clothing (shirt, breeches, worn boots, and belt) Tattered Cloak Dagger Backpack Blanket Wooden Tankard Wooden Cutlery Cudgel (Hand Weapon) Light Armour (Leather Jack) Pistol (10 shots) Row Boat Shield Uniform 10 yards of Rope Lock Picks Magnifying Glass Manacles 2 Homing Pidgeons w/ Cage 9gc Advances: (1200/1200xp) 1st Free: +5% BS 2nd Free: +5% Ag +5% S 100xp +1 W 100xp +10% BS 100xp +10% S 100xp +5% T 100xp +10% Ag 100xp +5% Int 100xp +5% WP 100xp +2 W 100xp Riverwarden: Complete New Career: Verenean Investigator +10% Int 100xp +1 A 100xp Pick Lock 100xp

Geoffray Dwarf-Friend Born the second son of a pig-farmer in the shadow of the Black Mountains in Wissenland, Geoffray lived his early life always in the shadow of his older brother, who was always the one favored by their parents. His elder sibling would always take credit for his accomplishments, and incessantly hold him back in countless other ways, though he could clearly do no wrong in his parents' eyes. In response, Geoffray took to praying for mercy from Shallya, but to no avail. He even prayed for strength from Sigmar to confront his brother, but he only earned a broken nose for his trouble. So, one day when he was knee deep in poo poo, cleaning the pens holding his family's pigs while his brother was out squandering his family's fortune (such as it was), he realized that he would never be amount to anything if he remained a victim his whole life. So he left his home without a backward glance and began to fend for himself, distancing himself as much as he could from his family -- and, for that matter, all of society (and especially the trappings of society, such as the "useless" gods that so many fools called upon in vain). At first, he wandered aimlessly, living off the land, but in short order his natural talents with a bow brought him to the attention of the local dwarf clans of the Black Mountains. Traveling along the edges of their domans, he earned a more-than-passable living trading game that he trapped or hunted in return for everything else he might need. The dwarfs, being quite insular themselves, were perfectly happy to leave him to his own devices. But as his archery skills became more and more in demand, he began to drift back toward civilization, eventually overcoming some of his more antisocial tendencies (though he always preferred wandering freely in the wilderness, when he had the choice). It was from his trading companions among the dwarfs that he first heard the rumor of Sigmar Reborn. Since he didn't put much stock in the gods, he figured it was probably a scam, but the dwarfs seemed very insistent, so he agreed to accompany a band of them on a pilgrimage to see the famed boy. After all, he had been up and down the edges of the mountains so many times, he figured it was time for a change of scenery -- and if he could help his friends, or even just earn further renown by unmasking a fraudulent god, so much the better. Taking the role of scout, he managed to keep the entire group of pilgrims on the right path and safe from predators (both natural and Chaos-born), all the way from the Black Mountains to the heart of the Empire where the boy god and his hangers-on were said to be. pre:Geoffray Dwarf-Friend ex-Vagabond, Scout WS BS S T Ag Int WP Fel 31 42 36 36 37 31 32 34 Start 5 10 0 0 10 5 0 5 Vagabond, Advances Taken: 7 20 20 10 10 15 20 15 0 Scout, Advances Taken: 0 36 52 36 36 47 36 32 39 Current A W SB TB M Ma IP FP 1 13 3 3 5 0 0 2 Start 0 2 - - - - - - Vagabond, Advances Taken: 2 1 6 - - - - - - Scout, Advances Taken: 0 1 15 3 3 5 0 0 2 Current Talents (Advances Taken: 2): Very Strong (+5% S) Very Resilient (+5% T) * Fleet Footed (+1 M) Rover (+10% Conceal, Silent Move in rural environment) * Marksman (+5% BS) Orientation (+10% Navigation) Seasoned Traveller (+10% Common Knowledge, Speak Language)

Born to a poor family in Karak Kadrin, Harkin was apprenticed to a smith at a young age, but didn't get on well either with his fellow apprentices or with their master. When a recruiting sergeant for a mercenary company passed through the city, he was the first to volunteer, and privately swore not to return without a fortune to call his own. After three years of campaigning in Kislev, he'd learned a fair deal about fighting and staying alive, not to mention dice games and liquor, but he was no closer to being wealthy. Hearing talk of ready gold for the taking in Tilea, and lacking better prospects, Harkin hired on with a succession of caravans traveling south and slowly worked his way through the Empire. Near Altdorf, he fell in with a party of pilgrims who were hoping to meet some kind of holy child and in need of armed escorts; the pay wasn't much, but he had a feeling that this would be something worth seeing. pre:Name: Harkin Sigurdsson Player: Ripley Race: Dwarf XP: 1200 Career: Mercenary -> Veteran Physical Characteristics -------------------------- Height: 4'6" Weight: 150 lbs. Flodeis is a 3rd son of a has-been lesser noble family, now making ends meet running a small town council in the backwoods of the Empire. The family used to be in the dairy business, but a local skirmish between two nobles saw their cattle butchered for military rations and the family wealth just vanished overnight. Sure, they promised to compensate for the losses, but the negotiations about the amount had stalled and unpaid wages saw the skilled workforce change employers. Flodeis had managed to weasel himself in to the town council after this had happened, mostly riding on the good-will his family name still had and had been slowly recouping his own personal assets with few well placed embezzlements. Bridgework that's not quite as sturdy as the previous, but cost twice the gold or cobblestoned road that's more or less just stones stuck to mud without proper foundation, that kind of a thing. Recently the land had started burning under his feet after a much-needed cart of iron had fallen off one of the bridges and people had started to question where the money had all gone to. Before the mob could rally for justice, he decided to grasp the initiative. He set his own house on fire to fake his own death (A good bribe ensured that somebody will vouch that his body was found) and rode away with most of his gold and valuables. Somewhere out there must be a new sucker for him to mooch off of. pre:Name: Flodeis Haagen-Dazs Player: Sormus Race: Halfling XP: 0 Career: Noble -> Politician Physical Characteristics -------------------------- Height: 4'2" Weight: 105 lbs. Malikial, you are instead a Human Apprentice Wizard. This is another restrictive one so I'd also allow a reroll, but there would not be one afterwards.

Just read through the books and am thinking wizard.... But might want that final reroll... I dunno, wizard AND knight-errant are insanely restrictive compared to the others.

Although originally born in the Great Forest, Thalos has spent most of his life living with humans, instead of other Wood Elves. He's also spent a long time learning how to kill Humans, because Thalos was a pit fighter, a slave whose only hope of freedom was to earn money from a blood sport. In the end, even after he did earn his freedom, he still had no real connection to other Wood Elves, and remained in the Empire as a sell-sword. He's also started to think of himself as a member of the Empire, and even worships Sigmar. So once he heard that apparently Sigmar was reborn and was leading an army, an especially after he heard rumors of that army being assaulted by the undead, he stopped what he was doing and went to offer his services to the young Sigmar reborn. pre:Name: Thalos Player: Astus Race: Elf XP: 1200 Career: Pt Fighter>Veteran Physical Characteristics -------------------------- Height: 5'9" Weight: 120 lb.
