The G1 Climax is the biggest tournament in pro-wrestling, and amongst NJPW's most exciting and anticipated shows of the year. With a round robin tournament format, NJPW's top singles competitors will face all opponents in their respective block, the winner of the tournament will be granted an opportunity to compete for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Often the champion also enters the tournament, as current champion AJ Styles will be doing this year.

The winner of a match is granted 2 points, the loser 0 points. A draw will grant 1 point to both competitors.

Newcomers to the G1 Climax this year include: IWGP Intercontinental Champion Bad Luck Fale, one half of the IWGP Tag Team Champions Doc Gallows, and IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles.

This year the tournament is less grueling for both the roster and the viewer, it will now take place across 20 days with 12 shows, with one airing every other day.

The Finals of the tournament will take place on August 10th in Seibu Dome in Saitama. This will be the first time a pro-wrestling event has been run at the venue, which has a 30,000+ capacity.

You can buy the entire tournament at http://ustream.tv/njpw for $160. If you purchase before 11:59PM JST on July 20th it will cost $110.

If you would prefer to buy individual cards you can do so at http://ustream.tv/njpwsub at $15 for the smaller shows, and $25 for the bigger cards.

Man pulling out of both the BOSJ and G1 in the same year can't put him in a good light with NJPW I would think.

:edit: Oh ok, if it's because of being knocked out in that Kushida match I can understand it. poo poo luck though.

Will there be a replacement or will everyone in block A now get two points for the match they should have had against Ibushi?

Ninety-one? There are ninety other "Tiger Drivers"? Do any involve actual tigers, or driving?
Time for Honma to headbutt some fools (and lose a lot).

I love DDT like my own kid and know Ibushi is super loyal to them but I really hope he stops working for them for a while at least.

Usually when this happens during a tourney (G-1 or BOSJ), his future opponents all get 2 pts and there is one less match per card.

With this happening several days in advance, there's a chance they'll try to find someone else or re-book everything. It's unlikely Ibushi was booked to do anything significant, so dropping in a replacement likely wouldn't gently caress with future booking plans. They could also try to rebook everything to maintain some suspense leading into the final shows, since the tourney is usually booked so tight that giving all of Ibushi's opponents 2 pts could mess up the rankings. Or they could just do nothing.

Yeah, I can understand not replacing someone when the tournament already starts but Honma in the tournament would be awesome and he's the sort of guy who's not gonna be hurt by jobbing and the crowd's gonna love when he gets one or two big upsets.

Major bummer that Kota isn't able to be in the tournament. There were a lot of matchups I wanted to see him have. Though I guess it's good that he and Shibata don't try to break his damaged head like an egg.

Put in Honma!

I has a bucket.
Also throwing my support behind Kushida. While Ibushi was clearly the better choice (and possibly destined for a 2nd place Block finish), Kushida over the past couple months has more than proven that he's a worthy representative of both Jr. Heavyweights and the NJPW style. Although Kushida vs Shibata , Kushida v Ishii, and Kushida v Tanahashi aren't nearly as spotlight grabbing.

Awesome to see it actually happen instead of just people talking about how cool it would be. Honma's great and really drat over for being basically a jobber and hopefully this might elevate him like last year's tournament did for Ishii.

I'm assuming Ibushi was going to get a decent run in the tournament, so I really hope they drop Homna in and let him get those wins rather than rebooking everything. It would be a shame if he ended up with the same 6 pts as Ishii last year (and Ishii better get more this year too ).
