Wait, what? I thought the Skyrim modding scene is surprisingly huge in Nipponland.

Yes but paying attention to that would involve Japanese companies being logical and thoughtful, which is something that they most certainly are not. When Japanese companies DO allow their games to be sold on Steam you get a Square Enix type situation where the games cost more than they do in the US or EU and the Japanese language packs required to play the games in Japanese cost more than they do in the US or EU too!

That is what happens when a genre name is also a common anime girl's name.

otome - 乙女 - just means "young lady". It's a sign that the game is aimed at women, not men, and if you think that means that they couldn't possibly be pornographic, you should probably ask some of the women you know if they actually like sex.

Now, I kinda wish there was an MMO where you were a monster with cool monster abilities and fought parties of adventurers in dungeons.

LOTRO has "Monster play" which I hope and assume is like that, but I've not actually tried it myself.

I haven't been following that game closely, is it complete rubbish or something?

The worst platform-game design I've seen since the boom of the early-mid 90s (the sort of thing you'd expect from a Titus game) coupled to an awful script. Graphically it's "OK" if horribly samey and as for voice acting, well it's using the TV show's cast. I bought it on PS3 at release (when they were saying it was going to be Playstation exclusive and never coming to PC) and it's genuinely the worst (non bundle) game purchase I have made in 10+ years.

It's spear diving and it sounds like there is a significant time-management component involved ("you" are holding your breath so you can't chill like you can in a scuba game)

Not saying it was anything other than lovely, but it's a design choice callback (from back when they didn't really have any design choices).

Hard Reset was supposed to play just like an old-school FPS, and it really really didn't - the team just didn't seem to get what made those games fun (Bioshock Infinite's 1999 mode was similarly problematic IMO).

Noting on this: The lowest tier to get the game was the 'early bird' $15 tier and the vast majority paid $20. Two years later the game launches with a sale to put it at... $14.99. Even if the product were 100% complete as advertised, that's a pretty poor way to treat the backers.

I believe that several kickstarted projects have done that, even though it's a really loving dumb thing to do - you'd think that long-established devs would know better.
