Is this the first foundation challenge they've had this season? I can't remember any earlier ones.

Either way, it's a cool challenge.

I'm sure they had a few I think? Like the first episode was kind of a big foundation challenge.

Oh no Cake Boss. Why a satanic reindeer?

Cake boss is probably going home because that is garbage!!!!

Or maybe Cig's red blob.

I missed the foundation challenge, but I was wondering if anyone was gonna go with telltale games' Bloody Mary from their Fables game. Looks like cig went that route with the mirror shards.

Edit: hmmm did that attach? I'm on my ipad. Nope.

Also, I think it was Cig. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong since I can't find a link to his bloody Mary and they are onto the Horror Movie challenge right now.

Not Cig, he did some weird grotesque one. I think it might have been the bearded dude with the mohawk.

I think the judges wasted that save last night. It seems way too early and one of the stronger artists are bound to have an off week at some point.

Also, is anyone else experiencing an Eric Fox type change of heart with Cig? Both of them I dismissed early on as being ridiculous but now Cig is winning me over with his overwhelming optimism the same way Eric Fox did. I would watch a 1000 episodes of Eric, Cig, and Roy going head to head to make huge monsters.

Sure have, he picked the poster I would have picked and produced a pretty badass make-up.
He's also been pretty good throughout the season.

Cake Boss really did not play to her strengths this week... If she's not a sculptor, why pick a concept with two critical sculpt pieces?

Also, it seems like almost everyone except George forgot that the real challenge was making a makeup that works for grabbing people at a theme park. So maybe not a subtle, psychological approach like a fat guy with boils?

I'm coming around to this cast. It was hard to say at the beginning if they were all duds. It was also kind of funny how literally speechless Sahsa was... She didn't use full sentences at all after she was saved, just kind of babbling, lol.

I didn't really see what was so great about Cig's makeup. It looked like a big red blob to me. It was completely monochromatic, even the teeth were colored red; the judges usually fault people for doing that.

The only thing I really liked this episode was Rachael's Bloody Mary.

mind the walrus
Sep 22, 2006

I'm with you Longtorso. I was drat sure the judges were going to rag on Cig for such a basic paint scheme, but I guess the sculpt made them lenient. Seriously I was screaming at him during the third day "CONTRASTING COLORS YOU NEED TO ADD SOMETHING HERE CIG PLEASE."

I was such it was going to be Keahlagn (sic) or Cake Boss going home, but whatever I generally like them and Sasha so it was nice to see none of them go home.

Rachael's shaping up to be both a strong contender and possibly one of the bigger egos on the show. She was visibly pissed that the judges didn't pick her makeup that she was explicitly super proud-of (and rightfully so, that makeup rocked), even though as Factor Mystic points out it was pretty much George and only George who made a makeup that could actually do stuff in a Haunted House besides stand in a corner and look menacing. Well, that's not true, Stella and Damien made decent "active" makeups too but both were so cliched in conception that I was grateful to see them shuffled backstage. I liked Drew's but Glenn was also correct in pointing out that it was mostly just a guy with boils, although to be fair I'm not sure what other kind of monster that poster concept lends itself to.

Apr 30, 2011
Drew did the internet one right? I would have probably gone with something half-man/half computer. It would be cheesy but more interesting. A guy with wires jammed into him all over could be scary although you'd probably have to give him another not internet based weapon.

It would be more like what people THINK B horror movies are than what they really are, but I doubt anyone would take points off for that. Afterall, they liked the Baroness.

I thought the internet one was really creepy and funny at the same time because honestly that does seem like your nightmare person to meet online. I laughed out lour when I saw it (in a good way), but I get why the judges were underwhelmed.

I was really bummed the backwards homecoming queen didn't work out ... that was my favorite concept and if she could have done it like she envisioned, it would have been great for the haunted house too.

Sep 22, 2006

Even then backwards homecoming queen, while awesome, really wouldn't have been a great Haunted House makeup. It didn't occur to me while watching but the more I look back the more pissed I am at most of the contestants for not following that requirement.

Also does anyone else want to see the other Face Off makeups that Haunted House chose to use?

I thought it was kind of nice to do, but really, once again they wasted that free immunity thing. Honestly if anybody deserved a fake-out "Kicked out, immunity" it'd been Cake Boss.

I could see her at the finale. Who they actually saved... I would be utterly shocked.

This press release has some make-ups that "could appear" - none of them read really haunted house to me, but if they have themed rooms that help tell a story, I could see it being fun and scary. I also admit I haven't rewatched any of the seasons since they've aired, but I don't remember any of the make-ups in the press release (except for the pumpkin lady on the poster).

Not sure if you've ever seen how they run horror nights, but there's lots of makeups that just walk around the park jumping at people. I think the winner of this would fit in perfectly from the others there, honestly.

I feel like Cake Boss didn't realize "Cloven" and the hoof were references to goats, devil worship, Baphomat, etc... She saw a cloven hoof and her brain immediately went, "Deer!" The tagline was even something like, "when there's no more room in hell."

It was "It was too hot in hell." which is why she thought reindeer... I think she was trying to be clever but couldn't pull off the reindeer head.

Saying this made me realize, she should've done a deer that has been shot/prepared for food/comes back to life for revenge, etc. Could've done like a venison-deer-thing. That's a concept I want to see.

Sadly that reindeer makeup kind-of told me that Cake Boss isn't going to make it to the finals. She's good and has a lot of talent and ambition, but sadly even in the middle stages of Face Off you have to translate that into competence, and I'm sorry but nobody is that good at hitting the ground running.
