There are a lot of things that impress me about this show, but two in particular stand out to me.
The first is continuity. Almost every other cartoon show seems to be scared shitless of building a continuing narrative, for fear that viewers watching an episode. Adventure Time sort of does it, but even then it's more a theming continuity than a narrative one. But in GF everything, even the episodes that don't advance the main mistery plot, has an impact on the storyline and isn't conveniently forgotten in the next episode; which is something that always bugs me to no end.
The other one, as people have already pointed out, is how dark the show can get. We've had a secondary but beloved character turned into a zombie! Whenever I see Mickey Mouse at the end of the credits, I'm always slightly weirded out by the thought that Disney, the company that built an empire on the foundations of being kids friendly, is producing something like this.

I have found another code to throw in the code pile:

That journal page, once decodified, says:
PURE ENERGY
NOT SKIN
AND BONE
RISING LIKE THE
SHEPARD TONE

And according to Wikipedia, the Shepard tone is an auditory illusion that seems to be rising (or descending, depending on the scale) in pitch, when in actuality the opposite is happening.

This has been observed by me, and I most certainly didn't just find it on Tumblr and post it here. Nope, not at all.

I sort of see where that reviewer is coming from, but Giffany didn't exactly bother me, probably because I'd say it's logical her character to act one-dimensional. I guess he was expecting a big twist or something like that and was disappointed that her character played straight.

Mind you, nuance isn't 100% necessary in every single character, especially in a show like this, but when you dip into the Jilted Ex stereotype you better loving have something to show for it, or the end result stands a decent chance of being somewhat offensive.
Why should it be offensive? Because it's implying that all women go psycho when dumped and can't handle rejection?
The episode makes it abudantly clear that Giffany is not a real woman; hell, she seems contemptuos of real women and their "unpredictability", so I doubt that this interpretation makes all that sense. If that wasn't enough, there's plenty of excellent female characters in this show so you can't even accuse it of representing all women in the same way.

The only character that consistently acts like a stereotype is Pacifica, and they called themselves out on it:
You walking one-dimensional bleach-blonde valley girl stereotype!

If enjoying a show (or movie, or band, or whatever) in a the "wrong" way is stupid and the sign of a bad person, I would think that being the kind of person who would actually become upset about how someone else does enjoy a show is inherently several steps worse.

Perhaps I've been a bit harsh, but I do mantain that castigating a show for creating a coherent narrative and an interesting setting that doesn't contradict itself every other episode doesn't make any sense. I don't mind show with an episodic approach, but I have a big preference for those that build on what has been established instead of resetting the status quo every time.

And I'm not particularly upset about that. Everyone enjoys what they enjoy, I just think that you're probably going to laugh at the gags even if they're part of a bigger story and I usually resent people in favor of dumbing things down.

So maybe I'm a little salty. Just a bit.
