Project Runway Season 13: gently caress You, Emily

Not saying she was great but she deserved better than going home when Char didn't. Both of them going home I would have supported. Also lol that the Korina drama was for all of 90 seconds of awkwardness and bile.

I don't give a poo poo who wins but it may as well be Kini (it's going to be Amanda).

We all saw the redemption storyline from the minute Amanda was bright back. Whatever, I'll drunk watch it next week.

Char should have definitely gone home with Emily. I did like her top that she used with the hoodie, though. That was interesting looking.

Was Emily the one who used the red print with the face on it? I liked it a lot but I don't think it fit the challenge.

I'm pretty sure it's been obvious for weeks that Amanda, Kini, and Sean would be in the finale. As much as I like Char as a person, it's ridiculous that she's going to the finale. I hope the Tim Gunn save is loving gone next time. It's such a joke.

Amanda's remake really looks like a cheap cybergoth clubbing outfit. Not that I like that awful shapeless "makes anyone look preggo" maxi dress.

I loved Emily's outfit. Maybe I need to look at it again? I thought it was more "street wear" than any of the others and it looked like the type of look that would have been praised in past seasons for being unique.

Char's stuff is poo poo. All the judges could say is that she has a great use of color? Purple and black? How groundbreaking. Normally someone would have been torn a new rear end in a top hat for that belly fat dress.

Emily's problem is she always has to obscure the model's body with lumpy Etsy outerwear. There's a market for that, and she serves it, but the judges like clean lines and bared skin. If she'd taken that hoodie off and made the jumpsuit sleeveless she might have been praised for it (but still booted because lol producers).

I just realized there was a moment during one of this season's shows where a designer was talking to the makeup artist that had me cracking up. I think it was Amanda, but I can't be certain. Anyway, the designer mentioned they wanted a clean and simple look for their model. The makeup guy then goes "OK, space age cat eye!", which sounds nothing like clean and simple.

No matter what they say, I never really see it reflected on the runway with the exception of a horrible lip color choice.

I agree 100%. I thought Kini's looks were a lot more 'fashion' than the rest. I was super surprised the judges ripped him a new one.

Also, lol at Char being stunned that they had to show a mini collection to the judges. Has she ever watched PR before? For like the past 6 seasons (or more?) they have shown a sample to the judges before Fashion Week. You can almost hear them saying "we need to see what your clothes and styling is like before FW so you don't embarrass us."

Anyone who has seen this show before should have come back to NY with mostly finished looks (which only Kini apparently did), multiple options in case the judges/Tim tells you to get rid of something or you get models that don't fit the clothes right, and some extra scetches/ideas that could be incorporated in case they throw a surprise "make another look" challenge last minute. At this point in season 13, it's rookie.

Of course if I was chosen to be a contestant on PR I would spend all my time before the show practicing with different techniques and fabrics that I wouldn't normally use. Threre seem to be way too many designers that just show up who can only do their one thing and they either try to do it every time, or when they do step out of their box they end up on the runway defending a terrible look with "I've never worked with this type of fabric before".

EDIT: I am also in love with Tim's green suit, but I also loved the plaid jacket he wore on (I think) their first day in Rome.

Kini had the only interesting sample collection and honestly I think Sean's is the most wildly overpraised. Though with no elimination this was a pretty pointless episode except to ratchet up the drama in a humdrum season.

I can't say I am surprised about TLo. They have cut their coverage back so much over the last couple of years, and this season it was clear they were not into it. It does make me sad, though. I always head there as soon as the episode ends to get their take (and their confirmation that the judges are insane). I think it might be time for me to stop watching, too. I wish I had something to replace it with, though. There are so few skill based reality shows that aren't just manufactured drama these days. It might be time to check out the Canadian and Australian shows.

I can't speak highly enough of Canada's Worst Driver, which should have a new season coming up soon. All of the drama comes from each contestant's relationship with driving, not manufactured beef between them and other contestants. The host's likeable, the judges are legitimate subject matter experts, and there are no prizes so there's very little reason for producer fuckery. I don't care about cars or Canada but seriously, it's riveting television.

Not sure if you've seen Face Off, but the contestants are usually SUPER talented and creative, and there is very rarely drama outside of "poo poo, my mold broke, I'm in loving trouble this week." It's also cool to see how they make things, improvise, and adapt to the challenges, which usually have some sort of interesting take on a classic movie theme. Definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.

I agree with them that PR has declined since Lifetime took over, and yeah they haven't really been shy in telegraphing just how over the series they've been the past couple seasons.

Reminds me of when fourfour gave up on ANTM, it was crazy how the simple loss of those recaps just solidified my waning interest in the series. I think I lasted one season after Rich quit, I wonder if the same thing will happen for me with PR.

I wish we'd get less contrived "drama" and they'd go back to actually giving the designers enough time so that they can fully realize looks for each challenge. It's just so much harder to get invested in designers when you know you're not actually seeing their full potential, just shoddy "good enough" stuff that they churn out to make an arbitrarily short deadline.

This season in particular has been really underwhelming for me, though. I guess I'm rooting for Kini? I don't know, honestly I'm cool with whoever winning. Nobody has really blown me away, at this point I can't really get worked up about the finale. If Fade had made it through, maybe, but as it is... well, they're all nice people, at least?

Kekekela
Oct 28, 2004
Yeah my interest has been waning the last couple of seasons but I think this one might actually do it for me. I've never had this level of disinterest for a finale before.

I think a lot of it is the finalists...

Amanda I wasn't that crazy about the first time around, and bringing her back to narrate a season has just been too much.
Char just seems mediocre and getting double Tim Gunn Saved makes me really resent her being there.
Kini just seems like the embodiment of Kors' "Its not project seemstress" line.
Sean is ok.

...but Amanda and Char being there gets at the heart of some of the central issues with the show.

Then you throw in predictable bullshit like overpraising Sandiya's clown costumes for four or five weeks in a row then sending her home for the exact same poo poo, and the whole mess with Korina and I don't even...

All-Stars has the draw of Dmitry, so it's already guaranteed to be better than this season (for as long as he's around, at least). He's really the only designer since the Lifetime move that really resonated with me and had me caring about who won! Actually, his season in general was just the only one post-move that I've really been into - Christopher Palu, Fabio, Sonjia, Elena, etc - it was a good crop, and sadly that's becoming much more the exception than the rule with this show.

I only recognized a few of the other returning designers - Chris March, Fabio and Sonjia from 10, and Patricia from 11 are the only ones that garner any strong/positive memories for me. Kinda remember Gunnar and Justin, but not all that much.

Well, I recognize After School Special, but she was horrible and I hope she's out sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the tips. I have heard of Face Off but haven't seen it. It's not a world I am familiar with but it sounds really interesting. I have never heard of Canada's Worst Driver. I can be a very angry driver (I challenge anyone to live in Baltimore for over a decade and not be), so I don't know if I will find it enraging, or hilarious. I will check them both out.

In terms of All Stars, I don't know if I'll watch. Why do they have to go back to back over and over? Shows like this have so much more impact if you have to wait at least a couple of months between seasons. I get that Lifetime views them as separate shows, but to the audience, they are the same sorts of challenges, the same manufactured drama, and pretty much the same casts of misfits, drama queens, and crybabies, over and over. But who am I kidding, I'll probably watch anyway, just because it's been what I watch when I get home from work on Fridays for so long.
